Antonio Conte’s search for a new central defender has led Chelsea to make a £30million bid for Roma’s Antonio Rudiger.

British No 2 Kyle Edmund admits he was lost for his words after hearing his compatriot Dan Evans had failed a drugs test.

Jordan Pickford has undergone a medical in Poland as Everton aim to wrap up a deal to make him the most expensive signing in their history.

It had initially been suggested that Pickford would wait until England’s involvement in the Under-21 European Championship was over before taking the medical tests required to make him an Everton player.

However, with Pickford entitled to a three-week break once the tournament finishes, Everton sent a delegation to Kielce on Wednesday to do the medical to ensure the business can be concluded before England’s opening game against Sweden on Friday.

Manchester United have completed the signing of Victor Lindelof from Benfica after the defender passed a medical.

Lindelof, who has cost United £30.7million, arrived at the club’s Carrington training base on Wednesday morning before signing a four-year contract.

Antoine Griezmann has been given a massive pay-hike by Atletico Madrid as part of a new contract that ties him to the club until 2022.

Liverpool will break the world record fee for a defender to sign Virgil van Dijk after the Holland centre back indicated he wants to move to Anfield.
Van Dijk’s future has been the subject of intense speculation, with Chelsea and Manchester City desperate to sign him and Arsenal also confirmed admirers.
Negotiations are yet to begin between the clubs, with Saints maintaining Van Dijk is not for sale. But Liverpool are expected to open discussions soon and are well aware that it will take a fee well in excess of the £50million City paid Everton for John Stones 12 months ago to get their man.
Andy Carroll is the most expensive signing in Liverpool’s history, after his £35m arrival from Newcastle in January 2011, but that figure will be obliterated.
