Manchester United partied like it was 1999 as the Red Devils legends defeated Barcelona in a charity match at the Nou Camp on Friday. Despite Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Edgar Davids and Patrick Kluivert gracing the pitch once again for the Catalans, it was the men from Manchester who triumphed, goals from Jesper Blomqvist, Karel Poborsky and Dwight Yorke firing them to a 3-1 win. get full info @ http://lantansport.com.ng/2017/06/30/man-united-legends-beat-barcelona-in-their-own-back-yard-but-brilliant-brazilian-ronaldinho-steals-the-show-with-his-silky-skills/

Germany have only brought a reserve side to Russia for the Confederations Cup. It is a sign of their strength in depth that it has proved to be one of the best in the tournament. A team lacking the likes of Manuel Neuer and Mesut Ozil had far too much for Mexico, Leon Goretzka scoring a quickfire early double and Timo Werner slotting a third in the second half. Fabian scored a goal of the tournament contender when he slammed into the top corner from 30 yards, but Amin Younes finished off coolly after a breakaway to restore gloss to the scoreline. get full info and pics @ http://lantansport.com.ng/2017/06/30/world-champions-germany-power-into-confederations-cup-final-as-mexico-are-hit-for-four-with-bayern-target-goretzka-at-the-double/

Chelsea look set to smash their transfer record with the £61million purchase of Juventus left-back Alex Sandro, beating the £50m mark set by Fernando Torres’ arrival in 2011. With rapid pace and a penchant to attack, Sandro has naturally drawn comparisons with former Chelsea star Ashley Cole. Should he live up to that comparison, it will bring an end to a long and expensive search to find Cole’s successor. get full info @ http://lantansport.com.ng/2017/06/26/122million-the-staggering-sum-chelsea-have-spent-just-on-left-backs-since-cole-left-for-free-with-sandro-next-in-on-record-fee/

It is when another piece of silverware beckons that we see Cristiano Ronaldo in the raw, free of the machinations and the politics. This was his 53rd game of the season and it was still his own show, as he danced around the wooden defence of the host nation, instructing his team-mates where to stand and where to run, having given Portugal a lead which they never looked like relinquishing. The goal, eight minutes in, revealed which of these nations looks like a World Cup commodity on current standing. get full info @ http://lantansport.com.ng/2017/06/21/with-his-rivals-on-holiday-ronaldo-just-keeps-on-scoring-star-nets-13th-goal-in-eight-matches-to-fire-portugal-to-win-over-russia/

Jordan Pickford has undergone a medical in Poland as Everton aim to wrap up a deal to make him the most expensive signing in their history. It had initially been suggested that Pickford would wait until England’s involvement in the Under-21 European Championship was over before taking the medical tests required to make him an Everton player. Antoine Griezmann has been given a massive pay-hike by Atletico Madrid as part of a new contract that ties him to the club until 2022. Going out on loan to experience cramped dressing-rooms and being kicked up in the air by grown men has been a rite of passage for many Premier League stars over the last 25 years. David Beckham temporarily traded Manchester United for Preston North End, Frank Lampard played for Swansea City during their days of struggle at the old Vetch Field and Harry Kane went on loan to four different clubs – including Leyton Orient and Millwall – before hitting the big time. Today's Premier League academies are such comfortable environments for young players, a lot of managers like the idea of their youngsters going out in the 'real world' as part of their development. Several members of the England under-21s about to go to the European Championship were on loan this season, including Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham, who scored 26 goals for Bristol City. And there's no shame in doing it, look at some of the other players who have benefited from getting a taste of first-team matches lower down the football pyramid. DAVID BECKHAM - PRESTON NORTH END 1995 The teenage Beckham earned £400-a-week when Sir Alex Ferguson sent him to Deepdale to get his first taste of regular senior football in the third division. Beckham was concerned Ferguson's decision was a signal he wasn't considered good enough to make it at United but he needn't have worried. Preston boss Gary Peters made him feel welcome, telling the other players that Becks was to take all the corners and free-kicks, and he scored twice in five matches during his month-long loan spell. Beckham always appreciated his time at Preston and turned up to their game at Leyton Orient the following season to help them celebrate promotion. click the link to view full details @ http://www.lantan1.com.ng/2017/06/how-to-make-most-of-loan-check-out-big.html

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez placed the club's 12th UEFA Champions League trophy in the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu museum on Wednesday. Manager Zinedine Zidane's side lifted the Champions League after beating Juventus 4-1 in the final at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday night. Los Blancos made history as no team had retained the trophy in the competition's modern format, before they claimed an impressive 'Duodecima' ('Twelfth' in Spanish). Real, meanwhile, had not won La Liga and the European Cup in the same season since 1958. And Perez looked in awe at all of the cups in Real's trophy cabinet as he stood for a photoshoot on Wednesday. Real's Champions League victory almost guarantees Cristiano Ronaldo a fifth Ballon d'Or title when the award is handed out at the end of the year, which would bring him level with Lionel Messi; over the past nine years the pair have shared the trophy. Portuguese maestro Ronaldo, 32, scored an impressive brace as Los Blancos hammered the Bianconeri in the Welsh capital, in this season's showpiece event. see more pics @ www.lantan1.com.ng

Manchester United and AC Milan are in a tug of war over Italy and Torino striker Andrea Belotti, according to reports in Italy. The Torino striker is one of the hottest commodities in Serie A, after scoring 31 times for club and country this season. And now the 23-year-old's club are trying to fend off bids from two of Europe's biggest clubs. Italian paper La Gazzetta dello Sport say Milan have made the striker their No 1 target this summer, but that Torino have already fended off a massive bid. A deal for Belotti could cost the Serie A side €70m (£60m) in transfer fees and wages combined, but Torino chairman Urbano Cairo is said to be keen to hold on to his star striker. Another option would be to sell Belotti abroad, with United likely to pay more for the Italian than a Serie A club. read full details @ www.lantan1.com.ng

Liverpool will break the world record fee for a defender to sign Virgil van Dijk after the Holland centre back indicated he wants to move to Anfield. Van Dijk’s future has been the subject of intense speculation, with Chelsea and Manchester City desperate to sign him and Arsenal also confirmed admirers. Negotiations are yet to begin between the clubs, with Saints maintaining Van Dijk is not for sale. But Liverpool are expected to open discussions soon and are well aware that it will take a fee well in excess of the £50million City paid Everton for John Stones 12 months ago to get their man. Andy Carroll is the most expensive signing in Liverpool’s history, after his £35m arrival from Newcastle in January 2011, but that figure will be obliterated. The fee could be closer to £60m, with 10 per cent due to Celtic, who inserted a sell-on clause when they accepted Southampton’s £11.5m bid for Van Dijk in August 2015. It is a coup for Liverpool to overcome interest in Van Dijk from Chelsea and City, both of whom have been tracking the player since early last season. City considered making a bid at the turn of the year. get more info @ www.lantan1.com.ng
