@ cheries does she have a bust yet? depending on how big she is , I don't normally use darts for children's wear. |

juicypetal: Hi, on your front pattern measure down from the shoulder 2 1/2 inches along the armhole curve. Draw a curve from that 2 1/2 inch point to join the bust point (where the bust dart joins the waist dart). Cut your paper along the curve you just drew down to the bust point. Close out the bust dart and you would get an armhole princess dart. |
Fashion / Re: My African Evening/occasion Gowns, Fashion Training by larosa(f): 7:26am On May 30, 2015 |
Update: I used out of the wrapper to form the bust area. The princess darts are coming from the armhole rather than the shoulder. (first picture) I also decided to use the border for the waist to make a big band starting from the underbust. The second picture shows the inside of the dress. The kind of attention i pay to the inside of my clothes has become like a trademark for me. I normally use the same fabric for the neck area rather than just lining so that when the wearer bends forward, the lining will not show. This is called a facing for those that don't know.

Hello friends. So i have this interesting project at hand i want to share. A good friend of mine has this skirt and wrapper combo she wants to convert to something more dressy. it's this normal six pieces skirt that has a wrapper tied over it. The fabric is bright red and quite pretty. It is well embroidered so i decided to make something simple and classy.

One major advantage you gain when you can sew is you hardly waste fabric. Also you can use left over scraps to make simple but cute dresses for your little angel or prince as the case may be. The below dresses were all made from left over scraps of fabric added With a bit of creativity and cheap buttons .... You could even make them and display for sale or take them to schools and maybe your church (thank me later ) I forgot to take pictures of the back but they all have sash to tie at the back.

Hello dear ladies (and gentlemen) thanks for all the calls and chats and encouragements from Nigeria, UK and USA God bless you all real good. Sorry for the long absence oh, quite busy with the wedding gown trainings. The training went well and was a wonderful experience below is a picture of just one of the dresses made by a wonderful student. Infact i learnt so much from her God bless you Rachiee, you are a darling. This particular dress is the traditional ball gown wedding dress but the upper part has a bustier overlaid with lace. The lower part is covered in hand stitched lace cut-outs and stones at intervals. The back has a plunging neck. The picture does not do the dress justice at all, but am sure you get the picture.

Hello, i have been following this thread from the very first post and i must say it is a life changing one. Thank you ladywriter. OK, so i saw a post by @cremeandchic about Fiverr some months back. Even though i had gone for physical seminars with some "gurus" at Ikeja, the way he explained it was too superficial and i wanted an in-depth training. I finally made up my mind to give Fiverr another try and i got in touch with cremeandchic. We started training focusing on writing gigs and i was amazed at her level of detail. She would send lessons followed with assignments which i would do and send back to her for assessment and correction. To cut the story short, we registered my account on Fiverr . She promised me i would start getting my money back even before the training was over and that's just what happened. Within a week of activitaing my account, i had gotten gig orders which i quickly completed and delivered. I have earned $20 USD so far with 100% positive ratings from buyers. Those who are familiar with Fiverr know what that means. See the screenshot below. I know that my earnings would gradually grow if i keep doing what she taught me. I just want to say a big THANK YOU to cremeandchic, you are an awesome lady, and am lucky to have met you as a teacher (but you are too hardworking.....lol ) also thanks ladywriter for this awesome thread. 3 Likes

ucheody: Hello @ucheody apologies for the long absence. To lengthen the sleeve is very simple and straight forward. Look at the diagram below. On the left is the original pattern (short) on the right is the long version of it. All you need to do is decide how long you want your sleeve and measure it down from the shoulder (SH) i used red lines to make it easy to understand. Also remember to cross check your arm measurement (some people call it round hand) at the point where you want your sleeve to stop to avoid a very tight sleeve. 2 Likes

ucheody: The part of the blouse used to tighten the neckline is the upper chest area of the princess dart. You hold it in an extra 1/2 inch on each side and taper it gradually to the bust point. This helps to remove excess fabric at the neck area and make it sit firmly on your body but not too tight. In the diagram below i have circled it in red and shaded with grey paint. 2 Likes
