Before Tinubu, vi effectively ended at ozumba mbadiwe. And ozumba mbadiwe was a precarious one lane road.
Now look at what Lekki has turned to today. The kind of rapid development that has happened there in less than 15yrs.

If it was some other state Governors, water would've washed away all those part of Lagos.

Don't believe what he says. Remember what Yahya Bello did to him in Kogi state.
Right before you start erecting structures or clearing land sef, there would be a quota of indigenous employees you will take and in certain positions.

There is a particular reason why he decided to settle for Lagos and it has nothing to do with states demands
After wetin Dangote see for Yahaya Bello hand, he to think twice before investing in the state going forward, other investor sef will use Dangote as example.

If this can happen to Dangote, who then can it not happen to.

Most of these Governors dont know they are using their own short sightedness to rob the State of investment opportunities, future potential jobs and revenue by the actions they take.

They will then be wondering why all the investment is going to Lagos.

Aside insecurity, I believe Lagos is the worst. Overpopulation in Lagos has ripple effect which include but not limited to traffic congestion, noise, expensive rent for slum like houses, expensive transportation.

A peek into the life of an average blue collar employee will reveal this. From waking up abnormally early to beat the traffic, to spending hours on traffic only to return home very late and expected to wake up very early again. There salary is meager and they can't afford to live close to their offices. They resort to staying in rickety apartments in Igando, Idimu, Ayobo.

Their contemporaries earning the same salary and living in other cities live twice better than them. With the same salary, they can live in good apartment relatively closer to their place of work and spend significantly lesser time on the road. As cherry on the top, they have better savings too.

Most employees prefer taking 10% to 20 % pay cut to be transferred to another city. This goes a long way to buttress my point.

This is strictly comparing Lagos to other cities, not villages.
Prices of houses and rent are equally expensive in other major cities.

You cant compare rent in London to rent in Nottingham, they are both in the UK but the rent differs greatly.

Same way you cant compare rent in New York or San Francisco to rent in New Jersey.

It's a simple economics principle, if demand is higher than supply, price will increase.

In 18, 19, houses were cheaper in Ikorodu but the moment people started moving to Ikorodu in large numbers mostly due to the low house rent, the house rent is now increasing at an alarming rate.

As long as Lagos continue to have high influx of people into the state with its tiny land mass, no infrastructure will keep up with it.

There's a reason topics like "Will you rather earn X in Lagos than earn Y in PH/Kaduna" comes up every eke market day...nobody really wants to be in Lagos, but the opportunities are here hence we remain.
Then maybe the other states Governors should bring investment and opportunities to their state so that the population of Lagos can reduce.

Lagos was the capital for a long time and enjoyed federal attention more than any other state. The government should help other states secure a standard port and Lagos will be significantly decongested within 10 years.
The Lagos that was capital for so long no see development pass Ikeja, Lagos Island and VI, No?

As at 2006 Census, Lagos' population was over 9m, it's just over 20m today...Nigeria's population between that period grew by over 50%...there's nothing exactly special in Lagos' population growth trend vis a vis the rest of the country. I'm sure you'd find a lot of states in the country that have grown their population from 2006 by 110% like Lagos did.
Of course there's nothing special about 20m people squeezing themselves into a tiny landmass. You are right.

El-Rufai that implemented the IGR model of Lagos was the same person that compared Lagos to hell.

There's a reason you hardly hear these governors make mention of implementing Lagos' policy on education, public health care, waste management, urban planning, housing, or pollution control. Tinubu is a good tax collector, but he's poor at creating livable cities.
Lmao.

Yet Soludo came to Lagos to study LASTMA, same with Alex Otti.

Waste management, Lagos has LAWMA

Traffic management, Lagos has LASTMA

Transportation management, Lagos has LAMATA. Till today no state has successfully been able to replicate the BRT system in their state.

Health care, Lagos has one of the best if not the best health care service delivery in the whole country.

Even Housing, Lagos has built more affordable housing than most of the states in the country combined.

Lagos State Fire Sevice remain the best fire service in the country by a long mile.

Should we talk about RRS compared to other security unit founded by other states?

Of course you wont see other Governors mentioning Lagos policy when they are inept and lack any real foresight.

Developing at least 3 ports at Apapa standard will achieve this result quickly.
Awka Ibom wants to build one seaport, the seaport is still in concession stage after more than 10yrs.

Meanwhile Lagos has built Lekki deep seaport and planning to build another one in Badagry.

Maybe just maybe if some of these states elect the so called "mediocre" Governors that Lagos has been electing, they can finally start putting their thinking caps on.

Lagos na like some state abroad. No jokes. grin

Hopefully other states to wake up and at least get to 50% of how Lagos is and take off plenty burden off the state.

I hear Cross Rivers and Akwa Ibom have good infrastructure, clean road and street, they should be actively looking to poach people away from Lagos.

Check the population of Windhoek, Lusaka, Dakar, Accra, Kampala, Cotonou, Maputo, Nairobi, Kigali, Yaounde hw many of them are 20M

Some of them their entire country's population with all the land mass is not up to 20M

Total country of Namibia population is 2m on 318,000 sqmiles while Lagos is almost 20m on 418 sqmiles

Yet we wonder why its a slum
Join Cotonou, Accra, Lusaka, Nairobi and Dakar population together, it's not up to Lagos population. That's 5 capital cities in those country to a single state yet Lagos has the smallest landmass of all these cities individually not to talk to collective.

Put 10m people in Nairobi today and see how It will look in 1yr.

Apart from SA and those North Africa countries, how many cities in Africa country have effective mass transportation service like BRT or even a intracity rail not to talk of 2 that Lagos has.

But yen yen Lagos is the worse city to live in because some of those cities has less traffic due to the lower population and all.

You don go too far. I meant livability versus the likes of Windhoek, Lusaka, Dakar, Accra, Kampala, Cotonou, Maputo, Nairobi, Kigali, Yaounde and other similar cities, I no wan add cities from SA and North Africa cause it's daylight difference.

My point is, Governors from other Nigerian states are better served modeling their cities after livable African cities of similar sizes and population than they are modeling their cities after Lagos.

The Lagos masterplan as designed and implemented by BAT and his cronies is a masterplan on how not to develop a city, it's a masterplan that makes cities unlivable, and it's the masterplan that has seen Nigeria slide further into undevelopment.
How many of these cities has a population of 20m sitting on a tiny landmass?

Lagos keep developing infrastructurally but the tiny landmass cant even cater for the kind of bloating population that Lagos has.

Funny enough, all the cities you mentioned are all the capital of their country. cheesy

The so called worst city competing with country capital.

Lagos state will get some respite if other state including Edo state can get their acts together and not continue to burden Lagos with their own incompetence.

A small state that continue to battle overpopulation and stretch of its infrastructure.

Make Edo State just try to be 30% of Lagos first.

There's no way Tinubu goes that he doesn't talk about Lagos, even during his own campaign he was always talking about Lagos.

Even other state when he goes to campaign for the party, he always reference Lagos state and how the state can develop the same way Lagos is develop but when it comes to Edo state, he must not mention Lagos state as if theres any Edo Governor since 1999 that can stand any Lagos Governor.

Nobody said he shouldn't support his own party candidate Oga,is this not similar to the "power is not given to you freely, snatch it,fight for it" video, we all know the repercussions of that statement....
Oga the video was in April 2023, he hasn't been sworn in then. It's the same thing he will tell any stakeholder in any state going into an election that he will support them to win the state for the party. It's part of his responsibility to his party.
