You're are actually very right. Raalsalghul is very golden with his insights, hmmmm what an amazing read.

As for me, I got into Scotland in August for my MSC and I should be rounding up next year. I have already applied for 2024 Internships and one company had already reached out to me and I've taken their assessment. I just hope I passed o😁...The company in question is one of the biggest in the UK. And I'm also waiting for responses from other ones I applied to. My school I think is one of the top 40 uni in UK according to them but to me e no really matter.

I believe being in an environment where your hardwork pays off really matters. Weather you go to a top school or not opportunities abound if you do your own part by Skilling up.

By the way, I'm studying MSC User experience design. And I have knowledge in front end development( Html, Css & Javascript)

You studied computer science or any related course?

Boss, sorry to ask o. I guess you were (or are) working remotely with a foreign firm as a developer. Why didn't you consider the digital nomad route instead of going with studies?

God bless u! Schengen visa is more difficult than getting a US Visa.

What most people do is they leave Nigeria to s close border countries close by and enter from there

I have a friend in Turkey who told me entering Greece from there is as easy as entering Ghana from Nigeria so it's just the fund one need to start the journey.

Greece Is Greece a nice option I thought they are going through economic challenges?

I agree with you that the slack channel will be a better media to have fruitful discussions. Having the ability to remove people is something every discussion should have

My thoughts were misplaced when I thought this thread would benefit others, especially newcomers.

Well, what a waste

This wouldn't be fair to new cormers like us in the industry... Please!

How do I join the slack group Incase you get to create one...

updated: u need array that contains ur individual item price total in ur usecontext.

Const [totalcartprice, setTotalcartprice] = useState([])

Then below ur ( const total = props.price * quantity)

Do this: setTotalprice( prices => [•••prices, total] )

Totalcartprice now contains an array of all ur individual total prices. Goodluck

Thanks...

I will try it out

Get then in an array, and use the .reduce() method. It will sum every prices inside the array for you.

I have tried that but I couldn't get them in an array.
Guess that has got something to do with the structure of the code but I have not been able to figure out a better way to implement it...

Please, can you kindly take a look at the code?

Good Morning Devs

I have been trying to build my first project on react (a mini e-commerce app) and I am currently faced with a challenge which I have been trying to resolve for over 2 weeks now.

My challenge is summing up the total on the cart after pushing the items to the cart.

Here is the link to code on GitHub.

Please I will be glad if anyone can assist me on how I can implement this.

Here

Follow the path below:

1. Learn the basics of HTML, CSS and JavaScript.(Not indept, but basics. On a scale of 10, It should be 5,5 and 6 respectively).

2. Pick up Java. Don't compromise the basics. Learn the syntax and semantics well.

3. Pick up Spring/Spring Boot Frameworks(Understand the MVC)

4. Learn a database. MySQL is ok.

5. Learn Unit testing (This will set you apart and get employers interested in you)

6. Learn Maven, Hibernate, JPA and Maven(These are just implementation processes. Don't be scared. After you learn the basics, you can pick this in 3weeks)

7. Most important part: Build at least two solid projects that implement all the above. Two sold projects are better than vague 10 random projects.

8. If you want to stand out as I did, write one cloud certification. Got Google's scholarship and wrote GCP, and did Microsoft 30 days challenge and got a discount of Azure, which I paid just $40(17k). This will make you irresistible.

All this looks like a lot, but it's what I did in a space of a year. Now our IQ might differ, but dedication and commitment can be the same.

When you do no 7, follow this site to apply for jobs. 2 months after your projects and you'd get a remote pay of $1000 minimum from Poland.

Thank you for this post... My dad with 20+ years of experience in journalism is earning lower than my older brother, who has been a graphic designer for just a couple of years and he's not even doing remote work yet. He started with my dad's old laptop back then.

I don't think we should discourage anyone cause you don't know their circumstances. There's nothing wrong with going into a profession for the money, provided you have the appropriate mindset to succeed and the willingness to put in the hard work. If you discourage them now and they don't make it in another line of work, they'd start regretting that they didn't try to get into tech (or any other line of work they were initially interested in) because of what internet people told them. It's true that success is never guaranteed, but whether it ends in success or failure, let everyone be responsible for themselves. Especially in this country where things are so tough and no improvement in sight.

Just today, in an office where I'm doing my service, a worker there was talking to this girl and told us that some of his colleagues in university are hitting it big now cause they seriously invested in various sides of tech back then. He didn't do so because he was more invested in the conventional education pricess. Meanwhile, they haven't paid him a few months' salary as of today and he's barely getting along. He's really regretting it now. Like the head of their department actually gathered us corpers and advised us to learn in-demand online skills because there's no jobs in Nigeria today. She also revealed to us that one of her sons is in Europe today because of this remote work thing (I don't know what skill he learned though).

Although I have a 2:1 in Accounting and planning to write ICAN after my service next year, I'm seriously thinking about learning this as well because of the state of our country, although definitely still going to learn Excel and QuickBooks for my course this year when I get a laptop. Me personally, I looked into a few online skills back in 2019/20 on the advice of my older brother (graphics, video editing, and programming). Programming was the only one I actually bothered downloading several videos on, but I eventually stopped because of no laptop.

I didn't even know about this apparent high pay thing for programmers back then, just until April this year. I don't know what will work out for me but I just don't want to put all my eggs in one basket in this country, lol. Whatever case, good luck to all of us.

I am currently in the professional stage for ICAN... I had to abadon it for tech... And I don't think I am ever going back grin

Research are done at the universities. Our universities are all shitholes. I really cant blame people who come into tech cause of money cause I did. I only code for money. Food needs to be put on the table and there are bills to settle. It used to be engineering and then working in oil and gas and one could have a good life then medicine or law. Now is the time of tech so expect a lot of people to come in. The salaries we look down on so many people will never earn it even after 20 years experience in their fields. My mother is a senior resident doctor and my first remote job salary is more than her present salary with more than 15 years of work experience. People will naturally gravitate to what will pay the bills and we shouldnt discourage them. Also, not everyone will make it. I think we make things look easy. To get my entry level job, I studied for at least 10 hours everyday for 6 months. I work now daily for 8 hours and after that I still need to spend at least 5 hours learning new things. Leetcode alone will humble so many many people especially if they take the programming parts of tech.

God bless you Bro... So far, I have been following you on this platform and I can say you have always being realistic...
By the way, I started learning DSAs of recent with a PDF document... Would like to take a switch to videos soon when I grasp the basics to an extent...
Please can you recommend any material for learning DSAs online?

Gbam! This is why I am forever in support of people getting a degree in Computing. A lot of the tools used today were the result of of University R&grin. If everyone goes to a bootcamp or tech hub in Nigeria who is going to drive research? You aren't off topic at all

Currently, I am even considering to go back to the Uni to study Computer Science... But I got in for the money initially but currently, I am being driven by passion...

So, let me use this opportunity to ask... Is it possible for someone who didn't study Computer Science in his/her first degree to go for a Master's in CS? Possibly after acquiring online certificates...
