Business › Are These Rumours True? by lateefsul(op): 3:13pm On May 27, 2015 |
It's not a news anymore that we have had the worst times these past few days in Nigeria. The fuel scarcity in the the country has opened our eyes to see how our economy is solely dependent on Crude oil. We had scarcity of Diesel (DPK), Petrol (PMS) & Cooking Gas. In some areas, Fuel was sold as high as N400 per litre, Diesel at N200/litre and Cooking gas as high as N6K.
We have also seen the BIG boys across the banking industry, Telecommunication and Radio stations closing early due to this menace to our society. To even make matters worse, PHCN also depends on Fuel, so no electricity supply for us to have a good night rest.
Some days ago, I got a post via Jumia channel saying they are not going to Shut down due to Fuel Scarcity. Instead, they promised to deliver all orders to customers swiftly within the stipulated delivery period. They even claim to have enough stock of PMS and diesel as they had earlier envisaged the scarcity. Well, i see this as a good move on the managements part. They are not relenting in giving Nigerians the best of service. Even if we no get Pet to commot, we fit stay house they buy things online. Korrekt JUMIA!
On the other hand, i read on Nairaland saying Konga sent a message to their customers intimating them about a possible Shut Down if the scarcity continues. I now wonder is that the reason why they have come up with a BIG APP SALES CAMPAIGN starting 28th - 1st May, 2015 to enable customers shop via their phone while they shut down temporarily.
Meanwhile, Jumia while still ensuring delivery and continues operations are going to have a week of mobile sales tagged the Jumia Mobile Week Megathon from the 1st - 7th June.
Am just being observant to see what unfolds this coming days. What do we think guys? Is this a show of superiority, good planning and good management decisions? We pray Naija gets better with time as we all welcome and usher in GMB & Prof. Osinbajo. God bless Nigeria!!! Amen!!!

Business › Re: Jumia Forces Competition To Crash Prices by lateefsul: 5:29pm On May 04, 2015 |
PrinceZoe: Being doing some research on prices in Nigerian online stores for a blogpost on a website and discovered some things.
In the last couple of days there has been in Vanguard, Guardian, Business Day newspapers, price comparison website TopCheck and many others the comparisons of prices amongst retail stores with all pointing to Jumia as the retailer that takes the crown. This was received with a consequent massive buzz on social media by customers with the hashtag #bestpriceonjumia which for that period trended as number 1 on social media. NOW we see competition reactively decreasing prices; all hail Jumia the fairy-tale Robin Hood of retail. According to Jonah Nwokopku, Vanguard Newspapers, “An investigation into some of the prices Jumia offers for some products showed a consistent competitive pricing with even international online retailers like Bestbuy and Amazon. Take for instance the Samsung Galaxy S5, this goes for about N119,000 on Amazon and on Jumia for N95,230”. He also said when talking about the Jumia Fashion category that “More so, in categories like fashion, their prices also beat that of their competition by at least 2 per cent. For instance, a pair of Vanessa’s secret’s shoes which cannot be found anywhere below N9,000 in other online stores is available at N6,495 on ”. Also Daniel Obi, Business Day also corroborated these facts about best prices found on Jumia not compromising on quality, “The low prices also apply not only to electronics but other products. Jumia customers attest to this. Jumia products are cheaper compared to other online stores without compromise to quality”.
When it began, one would think it was another cheesy trend. But after 5 whole days of that relentless #BestPriceOnJumia twitter trend one can’t help but pause and double check. Indeed! Jumia’s price hype does measure up to reality. And going by the crazy engagement level of social fans, who aggressively tweeted favourite products they found at better prices on Jumia, it is obvious this was more than one of those calculated social campaigns, but a testament to Jumia’s commitment to actually offering highly competitive pricing.
When it comes to the reasons how Jumia is able to offer best prices, these publications name different reasons. One very interesting fact is that online retailers have lower fixed costs so they can offer cheaper products to its customers. Also Jumia has been able to forge lasting and favorable partnerships with the biggest brands who are able to offer Jumia their products at reduced tariffs and sometimes even exclusively. These brands are happy and always willing to work with Jumia due to a proven track record of service delivery, customer satisfaction and guaranteed volume of sales. This leaves no doubt that the Jumia team has the best negotiators within the industry.
In an exciting twist, there was a sudden drop in prices from other competing retail stores and it brings the question, is it really so easy to drop prices over-night just to compete? Did these retailers make money off the back of customers? Maybe these prices are a long-term strategy or only a quick fix reaction to Jumia’s consistent best offerings? Either way we know one thing for sure Jumia is the ‘Robin Hood’ for Nigerian customers. Jumia rocks...Please can you reduce the delivery charge for states outside Lagos. It's quite expensive jare! |

Elxandre: Jumia delivery system is really crippled. I found it difficult to ship to my town when a friend wanted to buy an infinix recently. Konga ships to my doorsteps easily. we are talking about price here please. Konga delivery isn't 100% too. |
Phone/Internet Market › Re: IS SAMSUNG GALAXY A5 A GOOD PHONE USERS? by lateefsul: 1:56pm On Apr 23, 2015 |
KongaDeals: Several items are cheaper on Konga, but then...there is the issue of quality assurance. You can't generalize on 1 single item. Nigerians know better service when they see one.
And really, is quality really about "how cheap" an item should cost? The entire value chain from purchase to quality to delivery to satisfaction (after-sales) is carved into that thing you call "price".
Some parts of the world would die for high-priced goods. So, your point really isn't the reason for a buyer's decision-making. Kongadeals please stick to the price difference. Una be thief na. The product is coming from Samsung, a well known brand and yet you guys sell at a higher rate. Please don't rip us off. Give us better deals abeg! Jumia winner ooooooooooooo winner Jumia ooooooooo winner!!! |
