PoliticsRe: Electricity Situation In Your Area by LaudateII: 9:40pm On Nov 22, 2013
In my humble opinion, power supply has gotten WORSE in my area since PHCN was sold to the private investors. At least before the sale, we had electricity supply once every 3 days, now it has declined. We have 2 days of total black-out, followed by 1 day with 3 hours of power supply and another one day of total black-out. This is then followed by 1 day of 12 hours of power supply and 4 days of total black-out. shocked

So what is all this hype of PHCN privatisation, if it is only making things worse instead of better? I don't get it oh!! angry

What crime have people on the Lekki-Epe axis committed that we are regularly punished with black-outs? Na who we offend, biko? huh

May the Lord fight our battles in Lekki! Can I get an Amen from somebody??

thorpido: I work in a government hospital friend. Most patients' relatives provide for their people. In quite a no of cases, some are so poor they can't get some of these requirements. Some patients are even abandoned by their relatives.
I am not talking about what you heard or what you may have witnessed once in a while,I'm talking about what I KNOW.As I type this,I am in my place of work in a government hospital.
Nice to know that you have kind feelings for your poor patients, but doctors like you are in the minority.... a very small minority.

A lot of doctors simply can't be bothered.

thorpido: You're getting it all wrong. This is not about what the individual health personnel can offer.I am talking about the challenges of the health system. The Op raised issues about the system and i addressed the misconception about health personnel.I'm not saying there are no lapses or acts of negligence in the profession,i'm talking about the challenges of the health system in Nigeria.I can't tell you enough of how the health personnel take care of patients from their own pockets. What do you do when you have to provide things to use from your own pockets?
Health personnel provide what from their pockets? In which state? huh

I am very sure that you are not referring to the government-owned hospitals in Lagos or the South-west as patients are made to buy everything from soap, to gloves, medications, syringes, plaster, tissue, etc., from the pharmacy before any doctor or nurse can attend to them, especially when such patients are on admission. sad

That is why relatives of patients are always on hand in hospitals to run around for such consumables needed by the patients they have brought in for treatment. shocked
HealthRe: Maltreatment Of Nigerians By The Medical Profession by LaudateII: 5:35pm On Aug 25, 2013
thorpido: It's so easy to talk outside of the system than for you to be in it.That's all i'll say for now.

By the way,if you know more than your doctor, just change your hospital....daz all.
You want to tell me you and everyone in your field knows everything about your field.
Medicine is evolving and learning is always ongoing even for a qualified medical personnel.No-one knows everything at a certain stage.
It's easy to smack the health system. If you live in Nigeria, your field is not free of the rot.
Chief, I find it difficult to swallow this your excuse here. shocked

The medical profession deals with human lives, for crying out loud! Human life is such a delicate business, that you cannot be too careful in handling human bodies. One careless mistake can send a whole person to the great beyond, or cause irreparable damage to the body & mind! shocked

It is not by force to work in a hospital. If a doctor, nurse or healthcare professional cannot practice medicine properly, update their skills promptly, consult widely with senior colleagues to enrich their learning & experience, perform their duties honestly with dedication, then please such people should leave the profession.....enuff said!

Let those who really need the job and are willing to go the extra mile to save lives, heal bodies, touch minds, treat diseases properly and leave their patients in a far better state than they came in, be allowed to stay and carry on their duties.

Hello, you are the one that needs to update his brain. The court merely restrained Access Bank from going after Capital Oil's properties. They did not say Ifeanyi Ubah was not owing the bank. Neither did they claim that he had not defrauded the Coscharis boss. There is no nothing in the court's judgement that forbade ordinary Nigerians from discussing the case or requesting Ifeanyi Ubah to repay a loan he had taken and defaulted in paying back. So what is your problem? shocked

Has Ifeanyi Ubah paid you to become his internet warrior? Why deny the fact that the man is a chronic debtor that has failed to honour his financial obligations? In another country, he would have been compelled to file for bankruptcy. angry

May God deliver Kogi state from clueless leaders....even their Senators are just as bad as the governors. angry

If Ogun State, Rivers State, Cross River or Akwa Ibom were to be next door to Abuja, their governors would have transformed their states into something great.
HealthRe: Maltreatment Of Nigerians By The Medical Profession by LaudateII:
Bludeville: It is sad but true. The healthcare system in Nigeria is in a very pathetic state and those responsible have refused to accept responsibility . They choose instead to blame it on the government and poor facilities and blah blah but the truth is The first thing the hospitals need are new and improved workers. not equipment or facilities.
sad

What is the use of a hospital that does not have oxygen, surgical equipment and other equipment to diagnose the patients' ailment and treat their diseases?

Bros., they need both! angry New and improved workers with relevant skills and compassion to care for the sick and dying, as well as good facilities to diagnose, treat and cure the patients.

They also need proper structures and management systems to deliver healthcare that is affordable, easy to access and convenient to all patients. undecided

Towards the end of last year, a relative was rushed to the emergency ward of the Lagos Island General Hospital at 4:00 a.m The nurses and ward assistants turned a blind eye demanding that a payment of =N=100 should be made for the patient's admission card. A =N=500 naira note was given to the nurse on duty who declined to take it and pointed us in the direction of the bank or cash centre to make payment. We ran there, but of course the place was closed as it was still 4:00 .am barely dawn. We pleaded and begged that they should give the patient emergency treatment to save his life. cry

They ignored us oh! angry Each of them just dismissed the patient and continued chanting that we should pay =N=100 for card before anything could be done. It dawned on us that we had to resort to prayers, if that patient was going to survive. Finally, the cash centre opened and we rushed back to make payment. After running back with the receipt and asking breathlessly for the doctor, guess what answer we were given?

"No doctor is available now. All of them are attending to patients in the ward." We were aghast. shocked

To make matters worse, it was discovered that the entire emergency ward had only 2 bedpans to be shared by 48 patients. The toilets were filthy, no running water etc. It was a nightmare! If not for the mercy of God, that patient would have passed on to the great beyond! shocked Finally, after two weeks on admission, and a bill of almost =N=120,000 the patient was discharged. This process of admission and patient discharge is a story for another day...

I know another patient in similar circumstances that was rushed to a popular private hospital. A deposit of =N=50,000 was requested and promptly paid within the hour. The patient died the following day, because there was no doctor on duty to attend to him. He was abandoned in the ward for over 7 hours before it was discovered that he needed blood. The blood never came and the patient died due to sheer negligence on the part of the hospital authorities. cry

Honestly, we need good medical malpractice lawyers in this country. when doctors start getting sued, and medical directors start losing their licenses maybe there would be some sanity in the system.
This is how they run the state..
When the Federal Govt propose to site a Federal Uni in Kogi,
It was another war! They wanted this on their land...
But after several debate and fights, it was sited on a neutral ground - Lokoja.

gosh...!
The list is endless...

Is it about the laptops the TSC distributed to teachers recently??

Laptop was shipped in from lagos at N60,000/ one.. but sold to teachers at an embarrassing sum of N115,000!

There is no rumour or lie in this.
I can defend all my words with series of evidence...

The state is about to die..
You forgot to add the recent debacle that took place when Anambra commenced work on the Orient Refinery in the Aguleri-Otu axis of the state. When the company under the Peter Obi administration started seeking investors, carrying out seismic studies and embarked upon the project, the people of Kogi State in the Echonwa/Ideke district under Abaji local government area were sleeping. shocked

The local government chairman as well as the state governor were also in deep slumber. No sooner did it become apparent that the project was about to succeed, that they woke up from their slumber and remembered that the oil along the boundary with Anambra also belongs to their own community in Kogi State. undecided

Has the Kogi State government also entered into partnership with investors to set up a refinery on their own land? No! angry Instead, they are making noise & struggling with other communities on who owns the oil and land under which it flows. shocked

ThisDay newspapers: Kogi State claims that one of the oil wells, which currently feeds the Orient Refinery in Anambra State, is on Odeke land in Abaji Local Government Area, there is also a third claimant to the land. Indeed, the Chairman of Uzo Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, Cornel Onwubuya, was recently quoted as saying that since the creation of Enugu and Kogi states in 1991, “the deposit of oil and gas in our inland basin has been a subject of dispute among the three states (Anambra, Kogi and Enugu) and the matter has been before the NBC and Surveyor-General of the Federation.”....

In fact Kogi vehemently maintains that the Oil Prospecting Leases (OPL) 915 and 916 straddle across the three states and therefore could not be said to belong to Anambra alone...

Having invested about N4.4 billion prospecting for oil in the area, Anambra State government has described the claim by Kogi and Enugu as “an afterthought” in that the two states have invested virtually nothing towards oil prospecting and development within the river basin. Even at that, Orient Petroleum admits that although the bulk of the oil wells is in Anambra territory, the Anambra basin straddles various states.

But again these GOVERNORS REALLY SHUDA DON A LOT BETTER BY NOW
Please do not tout these structures as indices of development!! shocked Not in this day and age.

I don't believe this, my brother.

No offence meant, but that state needs divine intervention to get rid of its clueless leaders and get someone with foresight to steer the affairs of the state. angry

Look at Nassarawa state which is just next door that has tapped into its proximity to Abuja. Can you compare Lafia to Lokoja, in terms of infrastructure and buildings? angry
