The Swap Thing (namdo)

Imagine not worrying about holding your position for a long while, days, weeks, or months (lol), because you are getting interest on your position everyday.

That would take stress off you especially if your entry is well thought out even if the position appears losing.
When opening a forex position actual value date is two days forward. A deal on Monday is for Wednesday value. Friday's deal is for Tuesday value, etc. saturday and sunday not counted but on Wednesday value of swap is trippled (x3) to take care of the week end holiday when swap is not charged.

How you calculate Swap:
A trader will earn positive swap when the swap rate of the currency bought is higher than that which was sold/borrowed.

Example:
USD/JPY: USD swap rate = 5.25% JPY = 0.5% swap rate.
If you buy USD/JPY you earn 5.25 - 0.5% = +4.75% on that position per day.
If you sell USD/JPY you incure -4.75% against your position per day.

EUR/USD: EUR swap rate = 3.75%
If you buy EUR/USD you incure 3.75-5.25 = -1.5% charge per day against your position
If you sell EUR/USD you earn 5.25-3.75 = +1.5% on your position per day.

Brokers usually provide swap rates for every available traded currency daily.

To check swap rates before taking a position on metatrader platform:

-Click on Market watch
-Right click on any pair
-Chose 'Symbols'
-Double left click 'forex'
-Left click a pair of choice
-click on properties

You can then view what the swap is for your desired instrument before going long or short (to your advantage).

GBP/USD
The British pound is stronger than expected, due to the strengthening of the US dollar these days. It was weakening yesterday but the long hammer-doji candlestick shows that there is a strong support around 1.62 and investors have not lost their faith in the GBP yet. A break-up of yesterday's high will be a bullish sign for the pound that will try to go back to 1.64. The cross of the 20 & 50 EMA's is a positive signal for the pound as well.

I think we are on same page on eur/aud just the diff btw 12920 and 12933 and my expectation is if the retracement gets to 13150 then i should go short or if price brakes 12920 i should also go short. so it is for me to wath the present moves having taken a long position around 12950 with SL at 12920 and a pending order for short at 12910 for a new low pricing. As a guard i watch the trend and if i suspect a rejection of 13150 i simply quit with some pips and watch for the pending order trigger. This is how i am looking at it now. Just like that of EU before it rejected 14536 area to slump yesterday.

I need to share this for those who may use it 'riskly'

The disappointing macro data of the US economy covered the optimism that flooded the markets after the debt ceiling agreement. Indices shed more than 1% on the beginning of the day, but short-positions covering helped Wall Street to close higher. The S&P 500 broke the important support at 1300, and it might slide to 1250 points. NASDAQ is supported at 2320 points, and a break-down there might reach to 1280.

AUD/USD

The Australian cash rate announcement will affect today's direction of the Aussie. The declines in the US stock markets are supporting the USD, but the AUD impressively fights back. The price is supported at 1.09, and the buyers are waiting there in order to get in. A strong break-up of the resistance can fall back again to 1.08.

On yesterday's analysis, we put the Fibonacci indicator from the break up area at 1.08. However, this can also approach from a different angle- stretching Fibonacci from the recent bottom at 1.0575. This school shows that there might be a deeper correction to 1.075-1.08.

EUR/AUD

The Euro crashed yesterday against the USD, and because the Aussie was relatively stronger, the EUR/AUD is facing down. Stochastic indicates for a possible correction up, but the trend here is clearly bearish. The Euro is traded under the 20 EMA, which is a negative sign for it, and a break-down pattern appears on the support at 1.2920. This is a strong support since it began on January this year and still last. A break-down will set a new historical low and can easily slide to 1.27. However, the EUR might correct to the 20 EM at 1.315 and make a reversal there.
