Music/RadioRe: Asake Leaves YBNL: A Question Of Loyalty, Legacy And The Game Of Fame by LEGALSER: 4:00am On Feb 17, 2025
EntPublisher001:
TrendyBeatz analyzes Asake's exit of YBNL!

When whispers about Asake's departure from YBNL began circulating in December, it felt inevitable. The label that turned the young upcoming artiste from the streets of Lagos into a global Afrobeats phenomenon in just two years might be losing its prized asset. Born Ololade Ahmed, Asake had spent a decade as an underground hustler—dabbling in dance, churning out music, and barely moving the needle. His fortunes changed in 2022, thanks to an introduction facilitated by his friend, Yhemo Lee, to the godfather of Nigerian street-pop, Olamide.

Olamide didn’t just sign Asake; he threw the entire weight of YBNL behind him. From co-signs on tracks like Omo Ope to roping in Burna Boy for Sungba (Remix), Olamide went all in. The visionary business partnership between YBNL and Empire ensured Asake's music reached farther shores, making him a staple in UK and US Afrobeats circuits. Add TG Omori’s cinematic visuals—eight in total—and you have the makings of an unstoppable cultural force. Asake’s journey seemed like a perfectly executed blueprint for success.

https://trendybeatz.com/images/blog/Asake-and-Olamide-picture.jpg

But success has a way of complicating relationships. The signs were clear when Lungu Boy, his third project, dropped in 2024. Olamide’s fingerprints were noticeably absent—no guest verses, no songwriting credits. The project felt disconnected, starkly contrasting the laser-focused cohesion of Mr. Money With The Vibe and Work of Art. And when reports emerged that Olamide had offered an improved deal, only for Asake to decline and choose independence, the rupture felt complete.

Is It Time to Fly Solo?

From a legal standpoint, Asake has every right to leave YBNL if his contract has expired. It's a business arrangement with a beginning and an end. But morality? That’s where things get murkier. YBNL gambled on Asake, poured resources into his career, and turned him into a global brand. For Asake to exit now, just as the label is poised to recoup its investments and enjoy the fruits of their labor, feels rather ungrateful.

https://trendybeatz.com/images/blog/Asake-and-Olamide-Picture2.jpg

The Double Standards of Success

It’s hard to ignore the hypocrisy that often surrounds conversations like this. If Asake’s career had faltered, no one would bat an eye at his decision to leave YBNL. The narrative would likely shift to how YBNL didn’t do enough to support him. Success, however, changes the stakes. Now, his departure is framed as betrayal, a refusal to honour the loyalty that brought him to the top. This isn’t unique to Asake. Wizkid’s departure from EME, Burna Boy leaving Aristokrat Records, and even Davido setting up his own DMW after a brief stint with HKN—these stories all follow a similar arc. For Asake, the perception is different. He’s barely two years into his reign, and the decision to leave feels premature to some, calculated to others.

A Gamble on Independence

Going independent is not for the faint-hearted. It requires a robust team, deep pockets, and a strategy that extends beyond the next hit single. Yes, Asake now has the visibility and financial muscle to chart his own course, but he also risks losing the structure and guidance that YBNL provided.

Will he thrive as an independent artiste, or will he stumble under the weight of expectations? Only time will tell. What’s clear is that he’ll have to contend with a more cutthroat music business, where the stakes are higher, and the safety nets are fewer.

What remains is the question: Will this be remembered as a savvy career move or a cautionary tale? Asake has the talent and momentum to make it work. But as history has shown, not all artistes who leave their labels at the height of their fame manage to sustain that success.
For now, all eyes are on Asake. The road ahead will determine whether his decision to leave YBNL was a gamble worth taking or a misstep in an otherwise spectacular career. And for YBNL, it’s back to the drawing board—because in the end, the music business waits for no one.

I've never been this stressed in my life and I'm someone who's usually able to handle a lot of stress, I just feel like I need time alone from everything and everyone, no calls, no text. Nothing.

And my wife even makes it worse with threats of leaving the marriage over any small issue. I think the biggest mistake of my life is getting married and I know a lot go men go through this to but they can't talk.

And that's why a lot of men die young these days.

FamilyRe: Would You Remarry The Same Woman After A Divorce? by LEGALSER: 6:25am On Feb 08, 2025
Nnamdipapa:
I regretted my first divorce.

I’ll paint the picture. I was married to an amazing woman. She was pretty, clever, loyal, fun to be around. We had a child and brought her up well together.

I got a job working away from home, coming home at weekends. I was an idiot and fell for someone else. I still to this day have no idea why. I left my wife for this other woman. My wife divorced me and rightfully so.

I set up home with the second woman, got married and had a child.

Two years after getting married to the second woman we split up. She was nasty in just about everything she did. Apart from the birth of the child and having her around, it was the worst two years of my life. I wanted to end my life so much during that time. It was the guilt of how I treated my first wife together with being the way my second wife was behaving.

We had an almighty row and she demanded a divorce. I was happy with that because I wanted out of this relationship. I would rather be alone with the feelings of guilt for the first wife than be with this witch any longer.

Through my eldest daughter I managed to speak to my first wife again. Within a few weeks of splitting with the second wife I had met my first one. All those feelings I had had years before came rushing back. She told me that her feelings for me had never changed, even though I had really badly hurt and betrayed her. We decided that we would give it another go. We remarried and have been very happily married for ten years now.

Does my wife regret divorcing me? No. It needed to be done because I left her.

Do I regret getting divorced? No.

PoliticsRe: Kemi Badenoch - A case study in inferiority complex by LEGALSER: 5:44pm On Feb 06, 2025
Nnamdipapa:
Guys, I want you to cut this woman some slack, and I’ll explain what’s going on with her and why she is the way she is, based on my experience.

I have worked with white people, Africans, and immigrants from other countries for the past 16 years. Each time, I’ve always preferred having a white boss when working abroad over other immigrants.

Hear me out, people, before you come for my neck with a noose. I like working with everyone, but I prefer having a white boss when I’m abroad.

My experience with African bosses is that they tend to overdo things. They push you harder to justify to their superiors that they deserve the position.
It’s almost like a form of inferiority complex. They tend to push harder than other teams to prove themselves and validate their positions.

I’ve worked with Black people, North Africans, and Lebanese individuals, and the case is the same. People from developing countries, when given positions of authority abroad, often work harder than their white counterparts to prove they’re just as capable.
Meanwhile, their white counterparts are usually more relaxed and confident, not feeling the need to prove anything.

Now, let’s talk about Kemi—a Black African woman in a leadership position never before occupied by any Black person in a predominantly white country. She will consciously or unconsciously try to overwork or take extreme measures to prove herself to the white people who hold power in their country.

In the coming days, Kemi will likely take tougher stances against minority groups as an attempt to distance herself from other Black people and immigrants, trying to prove her loyalty and competence to her superiors. She’s essentially screaming:
"Hey, guys, I’m close to the whites!"
"I’m not like those other Black people!"
"I work harder and better than them!"
"I’m even married to a white person!"
"Look, my kids are biracial—I’m not like other Black people or immigrants!"

It can come across as virtue signaling and may resemble the proverbial “Uncle Tom” behavior.

I’ve observed similar patterns among Africans who hold leadership positions in predominantly white countries. They often come down harder on fellow immigrants working under them.

But do you know what white people think of these individuals? The same as they think of Africans back in Africa.

Kemi is making all these outlandish statements to prove to white people that she’s different from other immigrants. But eventually, she’ll be removed from that position and will never become the Prime Minister of the UK.
In fact, the main reason her party lost is because many people in the UK dislike having immigrants as leaders.

The UK dislikes the Labour Party so much, yet they would still prefer a Labour candidate over someone like Rishi Sunak or Kemi Badenoch.

Kemi is unconsciously working very hard to justify herself as a Black woman, and she will continue doing this for the rest of her life abroad.

The only way to climb up is to continuously put down immigrants and dissociate herself from them as much as possible. "Hey, whitey, even though I am not white, I am way different from those people"
Exactly my point bro. Your first few paragraphs says it all, I understand what you meant and I've had a similar discussion with my fellow Nigerians over this a couple of times and I have as well experienced what you outlined above, I've worked with blacks and whites at the helm of affairs and believe me, it's more relaxing working with whites at the helm of affairs than blacks. It's just as you've pointed it in fact I had an altercation with one black lady in my place of work regarding this attitude because she was the team lead that day and i saw how she treated her fellow blacks simply because she was trying to please whites just because of the COS dey promised to give her, it's so annoying that our colleagues who are white will not get things done properly but it is us who are her fellow blacks she would put the blame on till I gave her a piece of me on that day. It's a full blown inferiority complex and that's what Kemi is suffering from but people do not understand, she's more like a lamb in the midst of lions but at the end they will dessert her. No matter what she does, it will never wash away the colour of her skin neither will it change the fact that she's black. She will be used and that's it but will never achieve what's making her toll this line of reasoning.
PoliticsRe: Immigrants Should Face Tougher Hurdle To Get British Citizenship - Kemi Badenoch by LEGALSER: 9:25am On Feb 06, 2025
mohbadliveson:
Immigrants should only be able to apply for British citizenship after being in the UK for 15 years rather than the current six, Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch has said.

Making one of her first policy announcements since becoming leader, Badenoch also said indefinite leave to remain – which paves the way for citizenship – should not be granted to those who have criminal records or who had claimed benefits or social housing.

Speaking to the BBC, she said citizenship was a privilege, not just a right and should be for those with a “meaningful connection to the UK”.

Labour minister Angela Eagle said “after 14 years of shameful Tory failure no one will take seriously anything they claim”.

Obtaining indefinite leave to remain (ILR) gives people the right to live, work and study in the UK.

It is usually possible for someone to apply for ILR if they have worked in the UK for five years, although it can be two or three years if they came to UK on particular visas., external

A person can currently apply for British citizenship, 12 months after they have been granted indefinite leave to remain.

The Conservatives say the period before someone can apply for ILR should be extended from five to 10 years and people should then have to wait a further five years before seeking citizenship.

The party wants the government to adopt the changes, backdated to 2021, by amending its Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill due to be debated in Parliament next week.
