Nigeria ranked seventh among the top 10 recipients of US foreign aid in 2024, receiving approximately $763 million through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), according to data from ForeignAssistance.gov.

The funding was primarily directed towards humanitarian assistance, healthcare, economic development and counterterrorism efforts, reinforcing Nigeria’s strategic importance in Africa and its longstanding partnership with the US.


Nigeria’s aid allocation focused on four key areas:



Public Health and Humanitarian Support – A substantial portion of the funds supported health programmes, including HIV/AIDS prevention under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), as well as interventions for malaria, tuberculosis and maternal health.

Security and Counterterrorism – Given Nigeria’s ongoing battle against Boko Haram, ISWAP and other insurgent groups, U.S. funding played a role in supporting security reforms, counterterrorism training and peace-building initiatives in the Northeast.

Economic Development and Governance – Aid was also channelled towards poverty alleviation programs, infrastructure projects and initiatives to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

Food and Emergency Relief – USAID provided support to millions of displaced Nigerians, particularly in conflict-affected areas, addressing food insecurity and access to clean water.

Global Context: Nigeria’s Position in US Aid

In 2024, Ukraine remained the top recipient of US foreign aid, receiving $6.1 billion — a direct result of the ongoing war with Russia. Other major recipients included:

Despite these contributions, the future of US foreign aid remains uncertain following the Trump administration’s decision in January 2025 to freeze nearly all foreign aid programmes for a 90-day review. The move, carried out under the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), resulted in frozen bank accounts, office closures and the dismissal of thousands of aid workers globally.

The suspension also affected up to $1 billion in payments for previously fulfilled contracts, raising concerns about the continuity of assistance programmes worldwide. However, this decision has been legally challenged, with the US Supreme Court currently reviewing the action’s legitimacy.

Rivers Political Crises: I Tried Privately and Publicly To Forge Peace, President Tinubu stated this when he met Leaders of Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) in Abuja on Tuesday.

He advised them to go back home and Work For Peace, In Compliance With The Rule of Law.

The President wondered why some persons went back to tell Governor Fubara not to honour the agreement he willingly signed. He added that he foresaw this crisis.

He insisted that he believes in the rule of law and it should be followed in resolving the Rivers State crises.

A lady shares her disappointing experience of selling her property to relocate abroad for a better job.

The lady posted a video on TikTok showing how she quit her banking job in Ghana and sold all her belongings to move abroad for a better job offer.

According to her, after resigning from her banking job, she sold her properties after a travel agent promised her a COS for an MC in the UK.

She emptied her savings and handed the money to the agent who was helping her get a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS) to enable her work in the UK but realized she was deceived by the agent who got her a cleaning job instead.

She made the post on Ghana’s independence day and stated that the leaders should work for the betterment of their country so young people would not make hasty decisions to move abroad only to regret it later.

In her words;

“I quit my banking job in Ghana, sold my properties, handed my entire savings to an agent who promised me a COS for an MC job in the UK, only to realise on arrival it was a 5-year Morning cleaner(MC) job contract. What should I do?”

This is mostly applicable to Nigerians that migrated to UK via study route. UK can be frustrating, forget the fine pictures, that country was never structured to make migrants succeed, only fortunate ones with high in demand skills and physical strength succeed in UK.

Rivers state governor, Siminalayi Fubara on Monday said he is ready to pay the supreme sacrifice in order to defend the interest of the state.

The governor who spoke on Monday during the inauguration of the Government House Staff Quarters also assured his supporters not to be lose hope over last week’s ruling by the Supreme Court.

He says “Let it be recorded this morning that the interest of Rivers state remains my priority. It is above every other thing. Even if it means to pay the supreme sacrifice for it, I will not hesitate to do it”.
