The UNILAG RAPE SAGA AND MATTERS ARISING I read in the punch newspaper via Nairaland this morning of the heinous act of rape that involved an 18 year old female admission seeker and a 40 year old lecturer of that citadel of learning. While and after reading the report, I dissect it thus: 1. This goes a long way to further buttress the need for parents, guardians and the society to take good care of the girl child and the female folk in general. Whether consensual or rape, the sexual affair which occurred between the both of them(lecturer and girl) is illicit and must be totally condemned. Note that a female child unlike their male counterparts are fragile, and needs even more care no matter how old she is. Parents must accept this responsibility until at least they are married. 2. I am not the judge in this case, but if there's anybody that MUST be blamed in all these it's the parents especially the father who have put the young girl in this mess. What on earth prevents the father from either going to seek admission on behalf of his daughter, or making sure that he accompanied her to the place. Why must you trust anybody when it comes to issues like this, in my own view a female child should not be entrusted with any male under any guise, the truth is most at times we deceive ourselves and forget that we are humans who are fallible and can make disastrous decisions at times. Even some parents out of carelessness have exposed their children to early sexual encounters even under their own roof, due to this ill perceived notion of trust. 3. The society itself has also played its own role in all this brouhaha, today our females dress indecently and even parents sometimes unfortunately aid and abet them in this, the male unfortunately have also been construed to see the female folk as an intimacy gadget and care less of possible repercussions. This is more prevalent in our higher institutions, and by extension our communities. This ha increased the issue of rape in our society, in fact by respected people and in places unimaginable. Imagine a man ruining his own career inside his office! 4. Male lecturers in our higher institutions have a lot to learn from this, it's true that the temptations here and there are many, but you should try your utmost best to always think before you act, think of your family, reputation, career, religion etc. before doing anything. You should know that been unable to control yourself for five minutes can lead you to trouble. 5. Finally, this post jamb of a thing should be critically looked into moving forward, as the process exposes admission seekers to all sort of vices, like 419ers, Scammers, Fraudsters sexual assault etc. It's not only in UNILAG, it's prevalent everywhere. If JAMB are solely in charge of admission, candidates will be assured that if they perform very well, they'll get admitted and don't need to run after anybody, but today even with your high scores, in jamb and post jamb, you must still have to know someone to scale through in most universities. Do have a wonderful day ahead and may God help us all. #Copied. |
By Chidi Nkwopara & Chinnso Alozie OWERRI – A gang of masked dare devil armed robbers at the weekend, unleashed terror on a bridal train at Mgbuishii, Ohaji/Egbema local government area of Imo State, killing the video camera man and badly wounded others, including the photographer in the process. Vanguard gathered that the newly wed couple (names withheld) were in Chimezie Catholic Parish, Mgbuishii, for the solemnization of their wedding and were on their way back to Owerri for the reception, when masked men suddenly jumped out of the nearby bush and attacked the bridal train. A villager, who spoke on strict grounds of anonymity, identified the dead video camera man as Mr. Isaac Ezirim, while the wounded photographer was Mr. Julius Ashigbu. “The hoodlums first attacked the vehicle conveying the bride and groom. Although the bullets hit the video camera man and the photographer, the driver of the vehicle sped off”, the villager recounted. It was also gathered that having missed their target, the masked hoodlums descended on all the vehicles coming behind the couple. “The hoodlums robbed the friends and relations of the couple of cash and other personal valuables, including telephone handsets”, the villager said. A close friend of the couple told Vanguard that the wedding, which was taken to the home of the groom, was eventful until the bridal train started moving to Owerri for the reception. “This ugly incident took place at the outskirts of Mgbuishii, a sleepy rural community that is now getting notorious for all manner of serious crimes”, a female villager lamented. It would be recalled that about a year ago, Vanguard exclusively reported how scores of women from this community, demonstrated at Maria Assumpta Cathedral, Owerri, to not only complain about the lack of security in the area, but also how their children mindlessly raped them. The fear-stricken women equally refused to go home after the protest until their host, Archbishop Anthony J. V. Obinna, arranged police escort that helped them home. We've 'evolved' to cope
with walking and texting
Humans have evolved a "protective shuffle" to
cope with walking and texting, according to a
study by the A&M University in Texas.
Professor Conrad Earnest, who led the study, said
the shuffle looks like a "normal walk" with a
shortened stride and a tendency to raise the foot
a little higher when going up curbs or steps.
People texting on the move also slow their pace
and tend to "deviate" from their course "a bit
more" than when walking normally, he said.
The inattentiveness of texting and walking has
been described as "unintentional blindness",
something considered so dangerous that 'texting
lanes' have been introduced in Belgium. Link:www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02ykmx2 |

To all those who love snapping little babies with all kinds of phones with heavy camera flash, please take note before you land yourself in trouble. The baby pictured above was left blind in one eye after a family friend forgot to turn off his camera flash while taking a close-up photograph of the baby boy. Doctors said the three-month-old baby, who has not been named, has suffered irreparable damage from the flash of the camera, which was held about 10 inches away from the baby boy. Soon after the pic was taken, the parents noticed that something was wrong with their baby's vision. According to Daily Mail, following the incident, the baby suffered from reduced vision in his left eye and blindness in his right eye. The damage is said to be permanent and cannot be fixed with surgery. The flash has damaged cells on the macula, the part of the eye where incoming light rays are focused. Doctors also say parents should be careful of strong bathroom lights when their babies are taking a bath. It is not clear whether the family friend will face any legal action following the incident. http:///2qmhn5

The West Africa Examinations Council, WAEC has
threatened to withhold the results of students in
19 states that sat for the May/June 2015 WASSCE
over nonpayment of candidates’ registration fees
by their state governments.
Speaking at its national office Yaba, some hours
ago, the Head of National Office, HNO, Mr Charles
Eguridu said: “The affected states should off-set
the registration fees of their candidates as soon as
possible, as we cannot guarantee that the results
of their candidates for the May/June 2015
WASSCE will be released alongside others.”
He said that a total number of 19 states in the
country owe the Council in respect of entry fees
for states government sponsored candidates for
the May/June 2015 WASSCE noting that some
States also still owe the Councils registration fees
for the May/June 2014 WASSCE. According to
him, the 19 states which are indebted to the tune
of N4 billion were not making efforts to pay
adding that efforts made by the Councils to get
the money from them proved abortive, hence
WAEC has resolved to make it public.
Eguridu who declined to mentioned names of the
indebted states said, he is given them benefit of
the debt, stressing that many of the governors
have just assumed office. He however urged the
indebted states to pay up within the next two
weeks. His words: “Many of the states of the
federation, as part of their education policy, pay
the registration fees of candidates for the
WASSCE, particularly in the public schools.
“This is quite commendable as it afforded many
indigent students the opportunity to sit our
examinations and relieved many poor parents of
this financial burden. “As I speak to you now, we
are cash-strapped as a result of the delay in off-
setting the registration fees owed the Council by
some states. As a result, we are finding it difficult
in meeting our financial obligations, particularly to
our supervisors, examiners and service providers.
“We have written to the affected states
governments without any response. The poor
response is threatening the smooth operations of
the Council.” |

APC spokesman Lai Mohammed arrested National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Lai Mohammed, was arrested by security agents in Osogbo, last night a few hours to today’s governorship election in Osun State. He is one of the many leaders and supporters of the party seemingly targeted by soldiers and other security operatives. About 30 student supporters of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Osun State had been picked up earlier in the day in Ilesa in what the party said was part of the plan to intimidate it ahead of today’s governorship election. Other leaders of the party including the State Commissioner for Agriculture,Mr.Wale Adedoyin and the Chairman of Osogbo Local Government were also abducted last night by suspected thugs of the PDP. Alhaji Mohammed’s personal assistant, Mr. Williams Adeleye, said in a statement at 11.57pm yesterday that he was on the phone with his principal when suddenly he heard voices saying : “you are under arrest, enter this vehicle.” Mr. Adeleye said his subsequent attempts to reach his boss failed, as his numbers all rang out. The 30 students, according to the Situation Room of the APC attend the College of Education,Ilesa.Their arrest at Imala area of Ilesa was said to be at the instigation of a former minister from the area who personally led the soldiers to effect the clampdown. It was unclear at press time where the students were kept, or their destination. Some of the arrested students were named as Awowole Samuel, President, National Association of Nigerian Students, College of Ilesha Chapter, Dada Oluseyi, Ogunmode Suraju and Odutola Olaniyi. A member of the State House of Assembly representing Ilesa West , Fafowora Fafiyebi, was separately arrested as was one Mickey Jaga. They were both arrested by soldiers . No reason given for their arrests. The police spokesperson in Osun State, Mrs. Folasade Odoro, denied knowledge of the arrests. The APC condemned the arrests which it described as an unwarranted provocation of its members across the state...The party’s Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy,Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, asked the security agencies to refrain from getting partisan in the governorship poll. The APC alleged that it was clear that the security men were working for the PDP. Agriculture Commissioner Adedoyin and the Osogbo council chairman were allegedly abducted by PDP thugs in separate incidents...Massive harassment of APC leaders and supporters was also said to be going on last night in Ile Ife,Ilesa and Osogbo. PDP leaders at a late night meeting yesterday in Ile-Ife resolved to ensure that no APC leader in Ife is allowed out of his house during today’s election....The office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osogbo was also burgled yesterday by unknown people...Haba This country is not just a single street and nobody is indispensable. |
Racism.....................! 1.Racism will never end as long as white cars are still using black tyres. 2.Racism will never end As long as white bread still costs more than brown bread. 3.Racism Will never end as long we still wash first white clothes, then other colours later 4.Racism will never end if people still use BLACK to symbolise bad luck and WHITE for peace! 5.Racism will never end if people still wear white clothes to weddings and black clothes to the funerals... 6.Racism wil never end as long as those who dnt pay their bills are Blacklisted not Whitelisted. Even whenplaying the pool (snooker), you haven't won until you sink the black ball, and the white ball must remain on the field. BUT I DON'T CARE, JUST AS LONG AS I'M STILL USING THE WHITE TOILET PAPER TO WIPE MY ASS, I'M STILL FINE...!GOOD EVENING GUYS.....!!! |
