ABUJA— National Chairman of All
Progressives Congress, APC,
Adams Oshiomhole, has asked
the Senate President, Dr. Bukola
Saraki, to prove his allegations of
graft against him or risk legal
action.
Saraki had, on the sideline of the
sixth remembrance prayer for his
late father, Dr. Olusola Saraki, in
Ilorin, Kwara State, on
Wednesday, told newsmen that
Oshiomhole had no moral rights
to talk about morality, in view of
what he described as the
controversial role the APC
National Chairman played in
APC’s primaries.
He was reacting to
Oshiomhole’s call that he
should exit his position as Senate
President, since he had no moral
grounds to remain in office.
APC National Chairman,
Adams Oshiomhole
Saraki had said: “That must be a
joke. I think Oshiomhole has no
locus standi to talk about
morality today.
“He has been collecting dollars
from candidates and he is being
accused by his party’s aspirants
and governors.
“I don’t think he has any moral
grounds even to continue to be
in politics, let alone being
chairman of a party.”
Saraki’s drowning—Oshiomhole
However, Oshiomhole's Chief
Press Secretary, Simon
Ebegbulem, in a response, said
in a statement yesterday: “The
unwarranted attack on the
character of the National
Chairman of All Progressives
Congress, APC, Comrade Adams
Oshiomhole, by the Senate
President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, is
pathetic and an irresponsible
resort to petty politics.
“Saraki, a usurper and
pretender to the position of
Senate President has no moral
grounds to call for the
Oshiomhole’s resignation.

“It is sad that Saraki, who just
woke up from slumber
occasioned by his defeat at the
Port Harcourt presidential
primaries, could degenerate to
such a low level.
“It is equally sad, but not
unexpected, that Saraki, who is
politically drowning, would make
such libelous comments against
the national chairman of APC.
And I challenge Saraki to
mention one name of an aspirant
that gave money to the national
chairman or we file a legal action
against him.
“Whereas, the basis on which
he made those comments was
tenuous and unjustifiable, it is
on record that Saraki had been
in the eye of investigations by
EFCC and ICPC for sundry cases
of corruption.
“That is the same man that has
taken it upon himself to question
Comrade Oshiomhole’s
credibility.”
It’s all empty boast —Saraki
Reacting, Senator Saraki,
yesterday, described
Oshiomhole’s threat to go to
court as an empty boast,
promising to meet him there.
In a statement by his Special
Adviser, Media and Publicity,
Yusuph Olaniyonu, Saraki also
said: “Nigerians are waiting to
see how President Muhammadu
Buhari will handle the serious
allegations against his party
chairman.
“We expect the President, with
his anti-corruption campaign, to
institute thorough and
transparent investigation into
the allegations against his party
chairman.
“The failure of the President to
get to the root of the matter will
finally destroy his ability and that
of the party to continue to talk
of any anti-graft battle.
“The President should let the
investigation be thorough, open
and transparent. This is no time
for any cover-up.” |
