@ simanene, is the TOUCHLESS SENSOR hand sanitizer dispensers still available? |
arbitrage: At N166.5 per dollar today and pounds, euro, services inclusive; over N107m transfers and still counting, all clients cannot be wrong.@arbitrage, a few questions. - what was your exchange rate for naira to dollar yesterday, Sept 5? - what is it today, September 6? - what's your website, and other contact details? - what's your process? |
mavinc4u: forget Gtbank, try another bank. Gtbank can rip you off when it comes to exchange rate as they claim to bench mark with parallel market which means their price would be the same as the mallam's price. Any bank you want to use, call their customer care and they will direct you on how to go about it. is either you fill a form and they will send the card to you through courier or you allow any of your siblings to collect on your behalf and send it to you.Hi mavinc4u, I just tried reaching you to know your thought which bank or banks uses the closest to the official CBN rates. I called first bank and GTB yesterday to confirm the source of their exchange rate for naira MasterCard transactions and to compare their rates as at yesterday. GTB customer service said yesterday's rate was between 166 and 168 and initially claimed MasterCard was the source of the rate. But when I called MasterCard, they said they have nothing to do with exchange rates. And that makes sense since all MasterCard does is connect merchants with banks for any transactions. First bank's rate was 161 according to FirstContact and they said their rates was from CBN. However, on checking CBN website, cenbank.org, I saw that the official rate for yesterday was 155.73. So do you (or anyone else in the house) know banks with the most favorable exchange rate (IE typically closest to the official CBN rate) for naira MasterCard transactions in dollars? Thanks |
It seeming like the cleanest path forward would be to get a Naira MasterCard from GTB and do high-valued transactions in the US with it (money orders, other POS /online puchases, paypal funding, etc). The questions then become: 1) can anyone kindly share their experience of requesting and receiving a GTB naira mastercard while outside Nigeria? 2) when using the Naira Mastercard for dollar-based transactions, what exchange rate benchmark does GTB use to charge the linked naira account? Thanks ahead for sharing ![]() |
mavinc4u: buy money order with your naira card and deposit it in your us bankHmmm... This is straight forward, simple and uncomplicated (for the most part - cos i have to get a GTB Naira Debit card first). Thanks |
niello: In case you are in a hurry, here is a quick overview of our costs:Do you still have these? |
misanho: Went to SHOPRITE to buy food at the Deli, and on getting to the counter to make payments, I saw a bottle of sanitisers on the counter, so I decided to pick up the sanitiser for myself -just to be safe as Ebola has become the talk of every gathering in Town, two day later after giving a bottle to a friend and sharing the last of my stock, I went out to get more,on reaching the stores (shop rite, H-medics, and two other superstore) I felt a chill run through my spine, then it dawned on me that hand sanitiser scarcity has hit the Abuja metropolis, what I got two day ago at shoprite, ie. on friday for N270 had now reached N700 today-sunday. Young business men and woman, an opportunity is here again!I'm curious about it. What sizes was the bottle for N270 naira? |
123papas: There is nothing like hand sanitizing machine. I guess you meant Dispensers for Hand Sanitizer. These are not different from the soap dispenser you can find with toilet wares and plumbing merchants. You just need to label this is for 'soap' and that is for 'sanitizer'. For your dispenser refill bottles at fantastic rates you can reach this lady on 08096855836.what are her prices? |
ogb5: The guy has naira in nigeria, so the issue of domiciliary account does not come in. You can not do international online transfer from a naira account. Thanks for the very informative response. I'll look into the paypal option. But i unfortunately don't have a card right now. Can you please share the process for form M? |
Mrcdorv: this is what I used to do for most of my clients if possible you have someone you can transfer the money then buy dollar and pay directly to your domicilliary account could be better.Kindly explain your process. thanks |
sktechnologies: Kindly do your self good and make the transfer online since you just affirmed you are into internet banking with your local bank where the money is, in the transfer window simply click NEFT that means a transfer to an internation destination.. then enter the domicilliary details, Kapish.. its as easy as it gets. further enquiries. pls get intouch.Thanks. I've actually done that a few times when dollars was deposited into my account. But the challenge now is, I have naira and cant transfer that to the US unless i first convert it to dollars. |
teeowl: do they give you Naira in US or do they pay the Naira in your Nigerian bank account?I'm paid in naira into my account in Nigeria (GTBank). I'm looking for reliable and relatively inexpensive means to get it as dollars in the US. |
ameristu: Get an ATM card. it is that easy.I actually don't have an ATM from my Naira account here with me in the US. But if I do, do you have any idea of the naira-to-dollar exchange rate involved for ATM cash withdrawal outside of Nigeria? |
Hello House, I'm located in the US and doing some business transactions in Nigeria where I'm constantly being paid in Naira. Right now, I have some money in my Naira account and I'm trying to figure out the best and secured way to move some of those Naira to my bank account in the US. I'm thinking of a scenario where a reliable BDC service can receive Naira through online banking from me and then pay the dollars into my dollar domiciliary account in Nigeria or into my US Bank account. Does anyone have the contact of a reliable BDC that they have done this with? |
Lekel: I'm thinking of using LSM global shipping. I hoping any of their recent customers can share a somewhat detailed experienceand timeline here on Nairaland. Thanks people.I'll appreciate anyone's comments on LSM Global Shipping. Whether good or bad reviews, it will be great to know. |

@House, how about investing in Ghana T-Bills? The last yield was over 20%. See quote below. Would love to hear the house thoughts? "At the latest auction on Dec. 21, the rate was 23.08 percent, the highest in Africa. That compares with Kenya’s 91- day rate of 8.14 percent, while its currency lost 1.1 percent this year. Nigeria’s naira has gained 3.2 percent in 2012 and it’s three-month borrowing costs were 12.02 percent at the Dec. 19 auction." - from www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-12-28/ghanaian-growth-to-drag-on-africa-s-3rd-worst-currency.html |
montelik: Didn't even notice d copy I pasted was tagged. Here is a better copy :- http://www.4shared.com/audio/Z7ySOQVJ/Lami___Know_ft_MI.htmlHi Monteliki, 3 years ago, i heard this song just twice on Cool FM. And it has stuck with me since then... For those 3 years, I've been googling for it just to know who the artist is. Am so so happy to have find the name and your comment. Unfortunately, the 4shared link is now broken . I know it's been over 2 years. But am praying (seriously am praying) you're still on NL, you still have the song and you still willing to share it. If so, please do!!! I'll so so appreciate it. Thanks in anticipation. |
I appreciate what you guys are doing here. Could you kindly help me check this VIN JM1BJ2231Y0280564? Thanks alot. |
I called IRS today and after over a 1-hour wait, and having to answer tons of questions, I was able to confirm that: though I am regarded as non-resident based on the under-5-year rule, I can actually file as Resident for Tax Purposes as I'm filing jointly with my spouse who's a Legal Permanent Residence. All I simply need to do is to include a statement saying am opting to file as such. Thanks |
@Davidylan, Do you mind mind if we chat further about this? If you can give me your email i'll appreciate it. thanks |
davidylan:@Davidylan, Is that still the case if am married to a citizen or Permanent resident? Apologies for not be very clear with the earlier post. |
@Elpieda, Thanks for your post on taxes!! That was brilliantly written. Do you mind answering this - What's the issue with filing as a Resident alien for tax purposes before 5 years in the US on F-1 visa? I'll really appreciate hearing more from you. |
Loads of great student-life advice here. Thank you all for such contributions. Let me add my own voice to it. If some of it sounds repetitious, it's because I skimmed over the thread and also because I feel someone will still benefit from reading it again somehow. So, here goes. -Do all that's within your power to have a strong first year GPA. -Visit KhanAcademy.com for a lot of free and great tutorials in maths, finance, economics, history, etc . -Someone in the thread said, GET ATLEAST ONE SUMMER JOB. That's a very valid point that i'll like to reteirate slightly - FOR YOUR FIRST SUMMER, DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO GET A SUMMER INTERNSHIP, if legally possible that is and even if you don't need the money. That'll be a foundation that'll allow you to build a successful US live (in my opinion). -If you can bring a reliable phone to the US, some wireless phone companies (T-mobile, simple mobile) have a no-phone contract that can give u unlimited talk + text rather cheaply. -Join Studentrate.com (it's free) to search for ideas on discounts on some of your monthly bills. e.g. i was able to reduce my Tmobile bill using an idea from studentrate. -As soon as possible, do some paying job on campus. It's an avenue to get that all important Social security or ITIN early. -For 50 bucks or so, you can join Sam's club or Costco or similar and it'll pay back for itself in discounts on various items in less than 2 months. -Visit dollartree or family dolar from time to time - you never know what you'll see and like for the "everything for $1 price tag". -9ja international driving license works in the US, at least for the first 6 months in the US. Well, this might be state specific, so check your state's DMV website. So arrange for one if you still can. |

Hello all, Does anyone have any idea where I might be able to buy dried Cocoa seeds and/or Nigerian-made powered coffee (if any) in Lagos? I urgently need them for a school coffee project! Will appreciate any feedback at all. |
Interesting, anyone with a good idea what they each cost? |
@iaabc, Would you mind sharing how you sorted it? Thanks |
@Nairalanders, Recently, I've been a part of a number of conversations strongly advocating the lucrativeness of haulage (moving containers from Tincan and Apapa ports to Inland Container Terminals within Lagos). So, as a starting point, I decided to come to here and ask folks for their experiences and unbaised advice about the Haulage business in Lagos as a whole. Any insights (especially the risks involved) would be very appreciated. Thanks ahead! |
Emeka Samuel:Congratulations Emeka!!!! one great way you can really say THANK YOU to the forum is to contribute to it, And we'll love you to start with gist of your interview experience. |
