Bros, are u sure of what u are selling? If yes, why on earth will i send a representative (all the way from Abuja)and a mechanic down for inspection and test-drive which they did and certfy the car ok. After then i discussed with the real owner who demands for full payment. In addition to this we agree that i send money for servicing the engine 10k, purchase of extra tyreand rim 10k, jack and wheel spanner, 2.5k and missing carburettor cover(which he never come back with the price till today). You are still tossing me up and down even after the real owner has agreed to ask one of his church memeber to help drive down the bus to abuja at 35k which i never negotiated. To me, this your advert looks too good to be true. Anyway, i wish you happy sale. |
Dear Nairalanders, This is to inform you all that Damola 1 has fulfilled his promise by making the balance payment of 25k into my account last night. I want to use this forum to say a big "Thank you" to him for his understanding and support so far on this issue and look forward to doing more business with him. My special thank goes to Inspired motor too for the intervention role he played in the matter ensuring that the two of us come to a mutual understanding without any hitches. My special thank also goes to all Nairalanders who contributed in one way or the other for your avice, enlightenment etc etc on this issue. The car in question has been started yesterday after installing the replacement engine and it will be delivered to Abuja by my Mechanic who did the work on Saturday or Sunday. Based on all your advice, i will be sending someone by flight to Lagos today to thoroughly inspect and investigate another vehicle (which iintend to buy again (For my wife biz) on NL, since i now realise that it is always better & safer to send someone to carry out a thorugh Inspection of vehicles advertised on NL before making any committment most especially when the advert look too good to be true (like Emperoh will say) On a final note, i want to say a big thank you to all of you and God bless. |
Dear Nairalanders, I would like to update you with the latest on my 08 RAV4 saga. Damola actually valued his reputation so much as has been said/envisaged by most of you and has proved it by making a deposit of 135k into my gtb account yesterday. He then sent me an e-mail immediately stating his reason for the shortfall(which i did not see until this morning)and that the balance of 25k will be paid later today. He equally apologise for the late payment.I just replied his mail saying i will be expecting the payment of the balance of 25k today as promised. Inspired_m was copied in both mails and i will like to use this forum to commend Mr. inspired for his intervention in this matter. He lises very well between the two of us making sure that both of us come to a mutual understanding and that the issue is best resolved without any hitches. i want to categorically state here that, with the steps Damola has taken on this matter so far, i can conveniently do business with him in future, and therefore recommending him to any Nlder who may like to engage his service. Like i said in my previous mail, He is unlike some Nigerians who will dash away immediately, problems happen on transaction they make. At least he is not a car dealer and so is easier for him to bolt away. It is unfortunate that both of us learnt our lessons in the hard way as we both lost some money in this transaction. Anyway that is business. It cannot be a win-win situation all the time,At times we win some,or loose some. Even though the cost estimate for the engine given went up a little when the mechanic got to ladipo market due to the fact tha the engine which the price was given to him on phone was not that too good, when they finally saw the engine at the market. But i had told Damola not to worry about that, since we had already reched an agreement.Any other increament arsing there of will be borne by me as i am ready to carry the cross. I will give you an update as soon as he makes the balance payment later today. |
Thanks Emperoh. I appreciate your comment. |
@ martini101, I will still give the old engine to damola as requested by him.It is still his own and not mine since he is contributing to the purchase of the replacement engine.I dont need the old engine as there is nothing i am going to do with it. He has shown some level of matruity and sense of transparency on the whole issue so far to an extent. At least replying my sms, mails and still contributing to this thread. What if he decided to bolt-away and swith off his phone after katakata burst like what most Nigerian seller will do,when this kind of problem happens. So let me display my own level of maturity and transparency too since he has displayed his. @ 3ace I have promise to give all neccessary update on the whole saga to the point of conclusion. |
Dear All, This is to give you the update on the replacement engine of the controversial 08 RAV 4. The cost implication of replacing the engine with transportaion and workmanship was put at a total cost of 320k.I have written Damaola 1 on this and he has conceded in the affirmative that the cost will be borne 50-50 as agreed by us. He has requested for my bank account and that he will be paying his own part of the obligation on Wednesday and that he will also like to have the old engine removed from the car back of which i promised to do so.The only bottle neck here will be how the engine will get to him from Ibadan being present location of the vehicle. But i promise to try my possible best on this. Anyway i have furnished him with my account number and equqlly promised to scan and attach the invoice of engine purchased and all other incidental expenses that makes the total estimated cost on this thread. I have also advice that he equally scan and attach the teller with which he used to make payment into my account on this thread to show fulfilment of his own part of the obligation. Inspired motors is being copied in each of the mails we exchanged. I promise to give you update as event unfold. |
Dear All, I think it is better at this point to advice all parties involved to eschew our bitterness, sheath our swords and stop hurling abusive language at one another. We should also be mature in the way we talk to ourselves on NL because he whole world is watching.Let us try as much as possible not to wash our dirty linen in the public. It has happened, it has happened, let us all agree to a mutual and understanding solution and move forward. To err they is human, but to forgive is divine. So,let us learn to repect each other views on this matter. No idea is right or wrong and that is the way i see it. We should be happy that it is money that is lost in this matter and not life.In 2009, i lost a whopping N1.2m to armed robbers who trailed me from GTBank(Dugbe branch) in Ibadan to my site at Irewolede estate in Soka,Ibadan at gun point.I was lucky not to be shut because the rest would have been history. But i was able to move on and put the issue behind me and glory be to God, i have done transactions worth of millions of Naira after then. But if life had been lost, i would not be alive to achieve what i had achieved today or be where i am today not to talk of even tell the story. In life, we learn everyday and as each day passes by, we will continue to be learning until we enter the grave.(This is one of the principle of islam) But in my usual gentle man kindedness, i have written a mail to Damola yesternight of which inspired motor was copied, telling him that it had been sdvised that a replacement engine be installed if the vehicle has to be back on road, as all efforts geared at getting it started proved abortive. I had decided to waive all previous expenses i had incurred on the car in the past, but propose to Damola in my mail that the cost of the installation of the replacement engine (and this include purchase of engine + xportation cost + workmanship) be shared by the two of us 50-50, which to me i think is fair enough (Though i stand to be corrected if wrong)Though Damola has agreed to my proposition, but i am yet to forward to him as requested the cost implication of the replacement angine which i promise to forward to him as soon as i have it. |
Dear All, Firstly i want to say a big thank you to you all and especially Inspired motor for your contributions so far on this issue. Meanwhile at this junction, Damola 1(being the seller)should send his mechanic to Ibadan to go and have a look at the car or better still liases with Inspired motor to get a good mechanic from him to go and have a look at the car and get it back in a good working condition. The name of the mechanic is: Tunde Idowu and his mobile no is 08032318862. I await your response on this to determine next line of action. |
Intending buyer. Please beware ooooooooooo. Why on earth will someone who can afford to buy 2009 model of CRV replaced it's faylty gearbox with a 2005 model. What does he intend to achieve? I want to believe this is not another scam in the making. |
Dear All, This is to inform you all that after changing the 3 sensors as adviced the Diagnostic machine, the car still refuses to start and when diagonised with the machine again, it advice that the "cylinder wire" be checked. Dear Damola 1, FYI. Your input is being awaited at this stage. |
Dear All, after using Toyota diagnostic machine on the car at Ibadan yesterday which advices 3 sensors to be changed and had been done today. The vehicle is about to be started again, if it starts, then Damola should be ready to refund me cost of repair as advised by Inspired_m. But if it refuses to start, then i am going to hands-off. Then Damola should be prepared to send his mechanic to Ibadan to get the car started. I will send the address of the location of the vehicle in Ibadan to him since it might cost fortune to tow the car back to Lagos. This is my stand for now. I await Damola's response on this as i promise to send the update shortly. |
@ op, I no talk ooooooooooooooo. wish you happy sales. |
hymmmmmmmmmmmmmm |
Dear All,I appreciated all your contribution, efforts and concern on this issue.Infact those who are blaming me for my action are correct as i had initally admitted that i acted stupidly and for those who are in support of my action, they are not wrong either. At least the last SUV i bought from US was not inspected too as i didnt have to go to US and dont even know which part of US it was brought from. I have never been to US before except coming August when i will be going on an official assignement. I know those who buy imported used cars from US never go there too. But my belief is that whatever is good for the geese should equally be good for the gander. If they can operate biz that way over there and thousands of people are dieing daily to buy their used car, why can't the same happen here for our used cars too. Be that as it may, i want to say here categorically that Damola has written me a mail which i just replied telling me his stand on having the vehicle back the way it is currently, although not mentioning his repayment plan, but i also tell him that i will stand by Inspired motors advice, since his comment on the advert doubled my confidence in the transaction initially. I had told him the few expenses incureed on the car so far and it's present location in my mechanic workshop close to my house in Ibadan. I have equally advice him in my mail to him that i will appreciate if whatever compromises we are going to settle for, can be relayed back on this thread for people to see and advice accordingly, since the issue had generated a lot of arguement on this thread. The simple reason i gave is that i wouldn't want a hide and seek game again. "Once bitten they say, twice shy" i repeat. Comments, advice and opinion are welcome. |
@ Gafaar. I quite agree with your response.I don't think i have all the time to be arguing on the internet because like you said i am more than N2m.That is why i hardly talk on NL But for those that were clamouring that i return the car and have my money refunded, they should not forget the fact that i still need to fix the car in order for it to be driven back to point of purchase or am i going to tow it from ibadan back to Lagos and even if i do, is Damola ready to take it back from me in that condition. Meanwhile the seller who initially was hell bent on making refund one month after delivery has again changed it to 2 weeks. You all can see the inconsistency in his statement. Lawyer or no lawyer, what makes one believe that this kind of person who sold an accidented car as non-accidented can not do worst things greater than that.At least, "first impression they say last longer" |
Dear Damola, Let us put the issue of high temperature on one side. You equally claimed the car was in good working condition and serviced by Elizade motor initially. What about the poor weldings on the chasis and frame? Was this done by Elizade too? During our verbal discussion, you admitted that the radiator was changed when the car had an accident.By this statement, you admitted that the car was accidented. This what gives rise to the differing 5 sensor signals appearing on the dash board. logically again, you claimed you bought the car for about N3.5m and paid extra 550k for it's clearance. You hardly use it because it covers only 16,000 miles and you agree to sell it for N2m. Why? it's simply because of the salvage value which you never disclose to me during negotitation. The point i am driving at is that, next time try and display open-mindedness in business transaction as it goes a long way to foster good business relationship. I acted foolishly because i worked in an American based organisation in abuja here and that is the way we were trained to behave. you also claimed you do transact business with our lagos office, anyway that is no prblem as our legal department are already working on the compliance of your past transactions with us because this was seen as an integrity issue. |
Dear Coogar, Thanks very much for your concern. Damola is very smart guy.He sent me a mail to return the vehicle back in the same conditiion with which he sold it to me and afterwards, he will issue me a post-dated cheque which i can only CASH one good month after the vehicle was returned back to him. I am fully aware that having purchased a nigerian used vehicle, you must spent some money to put in the shape you wanted. Thats why when my driver who went to pick the vehicle first complained that there were about 5 indicator lights that were permenently "ON" on the dashboard, i told him not to worry and that we can fix that when he gets to Abuja not knowing that the car would not even reach ibadan. |
Dear All, Thanx very much for your advice, effort and concern. As i am writng this mail, the car is about to be towed to ibadan town at a cost of 25k after i had spent over 100k to get it fixed. I have strongly been adviced to buy another engine and install it, if i want the vehicle back on the road. Can anyone in the house give me an idea of how much the engine will cost? Ur advices and inputs are welcome please. |
I am witing you on this thread because u advise me to do so. I will strongly advice you never to attempt buying a registered car on NL. They are full of rubish, lies, deciets etc etc. They will never tell you the major reason why they are selling is becuase it has a major problem. The reason they will be giving is"Owners want to upgrade; Owners is travelling out or has travelled out". All these are lies, so don't fall a victim. Like the rav4 i bought, i am about towing it down to ibadan now at a total cos 25k after spending over 100k to fix it. I have been adviced to buy another engine and install it in the car for the vehicle to be on the road since it will not start at all. |
@ Sultaan, You mention the mechanic opening the valve cover. Yes he will. Reason being that it has been confirmed that the top cylinder gasket was burnt. This is because oil was seen to have mixed with the radiator water. To change this gasket, the top cylinder (which is almost half part of the engine needs to be removed)I happen to be a Mechanical Engineer by profession. @ damola 1, Even though i had vowed not discusss with you on this matter again. But since you had contributed to this thread as a seller. Let me point to you the mistakes you made; 1. You already know the car was accidented and that's why you never showed the front part of the vehicle in the advertised pics until when i insisted. When i asked you why the bonnect and front bumper was sprayed, you told me that it was because of light scratches here and there on the fron t bumper since you drive the vehicle in Lagos. 2.You priced the car very cheap because of the salvage nature of the car. 3.When i asked you questions as per the soundness of the car, you answered in the affirmative. 4.When you were told that the car was giving problem on the road, all you could say was that you would call your mechanic and ask. Since you already know what you sold, you never bother to call back again to find out how far. I've been the one calling. 5.Like i said, once bitten, twice shy they say.I don't see myself fallen in this kind of fraud again since i can never buy any car on NL again be it registered or tokunbo. My belief is that virtually all sellers on NL are the same (Though i may be wrong and i stand to be corrected)Reason why i am saying this is that during the time when this car was advertised, inspired motors too commented on the advert saying he knows the history of the car very well with the previous owner, and this gave me a double assurance that the car will have no issue and i state this clearly in my original post for people to see. We in Abuja here know inspired motor for his intergrity in all the businesses he has done so far with people on NL.S Finally, a word of advice to sellers on NL is that they should learn to say the truth, however bitter it is. Though i am a muslim (An Alhaji for that matter)But the Bible said "Ye shall say the truth and the truth shall set you free". Last year i boughta Tokunbo 2005 Nissan Sentra for my wife in Wuse 2 Abuja here. The seller declared to us that the car had a minor accident in Canada, but had been fixed,i ran an auto check and confirm it is true. For this truthfulness of his, i decided to buy the car and never had any issue with it after purchase. Similarly, sellers on NL should take a cue from this and imbibe the spirit of open-mindedness.This will go alongway to increase people's confidence and remove doubt from peoples mind on all products advertised on NL. Damola, you may not bother to have the car back since God has answered your prayer, at least one "Mumu"fas fallen into your net.I don't need to boast or make mouth here, The maximum that can happen is for me to replace the engine of that car as someone adviced and i am up to the task.I had told you before where i work in Abuja nad that you dont do one business to close shop. You do business for contniuty purpose. But remenber i equally told you that business is done based on "Trust"and since you have betrayed that trust, i wish you well in your future endeavoues. But my belief is that whether home or abroad, our path will always cross to meet. |
Beware Of Buying Fraudulent Nigerian Used Vehicles Hello Nlders, this is to advice interested members who may be interested in buying registered vehicle on NL to be wary of some fraudulent advert. I want members to learn from my mistake so as not to fall prey to fraudsters.Though i hardly talk on NL, but i had a very bitter experience recently as a result of my foolishness arising as a result of trust i had on a Nlder. I happen to be the buyer of the wine coloured 2008 RAV4 advertised by Damola1. When I saw the pics he posted, I was interested and negotiated the car to N2m from his asking price of N2.250m which he agreed. After then, I asked of the condition of the engine or any fixes to be done on the car after purchase since I am resident in Abuja. He told me the car is in a perfct condition and that there are no fixes to be made. He stated his reason for selling the car as wishing to acquire another car. Bur because of my tight schedule and eagerness to buy the car, I foolishly made a deposit of 500k to his gtb coporate acct without inspection on a Tuesday morning. Reason for my action was that I relied on the verbal assurance he gave me. Later on, on the preceeding Friday morning i completed the balance payment of N1.5m into his account after which i sent someone to help me pick the car and bring to Abuja on a saturday morning. But alas!No sooner the guy picked the car and the first thing he noticed was an alignment problem on the tyres which was fixed by the seller in a filling station at Ikeja. Then he entered the Lagos-Ibadan expressway to start journey to Abuja and the car started doing high temperature. A bottle of Radiator coolant and a bag of purewater purchased on the highway would not help matter until the car finally broke down at sapade (A village near Ibadan) loosing it's top cylinder gasket. It was the intervention of passers-by that helped push the car to a local mechanic workshop who diagnosed that the top cylinder gasker is burnt together with one sensor cable. This was fixed, even though it cost me fortune. But the most annoying part was that when the top cylinder was removed, it was discovered that the car was accidented as it has weldings on it's chasis frame as seen in the attached pictures. The engine has been finally coupled, but the car still refuses to start and as at the time of writing this report, it is still at sapade. The person whom i contracted to bring it got frustrated today when all effores gerared at getting the vehicle started proved abortive and had to leave back for Abuja tonight saying he can no longer continue to stay in the bush as this is posing a security threat to his life. I know i had to pay a big price for my fooloishness for not inspecting the car, but then, does it mean one can no longer trust his fellow country men on cars adverised on NL? When all these problems were relayed back to the seller, all he could told me was to return the car back to him in the same condition with which it was sold to me and that he will issue me a posdated cheque which i am going to cash one month after i had deliver the vehicle back to him. Once bitten they say twice shy, i think i had learnt my lessons in a very hard way and would want fellow Nlders to take a cue from it. This is not the first time i will be buying a vehicle un-ispected as i had bought a 2003 Highlander from US via a dealer in lagos before. Your comments on this issue are welcome.
