Crime / Falae’s Abductors Reduce Ransom To N90m • Family Raises N2m by Leojamesjames(m): 5:32am On Sep 23, 2015
Negotiation is still going on between the family of a former Minister of Finance, Chief Olu Falae, and his abductors as the latter has reduced the ransom demanded for his release from N100m to N90m.

It was learnt that the family had, however, been able to raise a sum N2m, which was reportedly rejected by the kidnappers.

A family source said the abductors called the family on Monday and said the family should raise N90m if they could not afford the N100m earlier demanded.

“At the time they called us on Monday night, they said they could only reduce the ransom to N90m, but we begged them to collect N2m, which they rejected.

“They said they would call us back today (Tuesday), but as I am talking to you. they have yet to do that,” the source said.

When contacted on the telephone, the Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command, Mr. Wole Ogodo, said the police were still making efforts to ensure that the victim, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, was released alive .

However, the Personal Assistant to Falae, Mr. Moshood Raji, alleged that Fulani herdsmen were behind the kidnap of his boss, noting that there had been incessant face-off between the herdsmen and the Afenifere Chieftain over their frequent invasion of Falae’s farm.

He said, “The Fulani herdsmen always invade the farm and this has caused a lot of problem between them and baba (Falae).

“Some weeks ago, we arrested some of them and detained them at the state command headquarters.

“There was a time that the secretary of the Fulani community told baba to erect a fence around his big farm so that his men would not be entering it with their cattle. He also threatened that baba should ensure that nothing happened to his people and their cows.”

Meanwhile, the Ondo State House of Assembly has condemned the abduction of Falae.

The House, at a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Jumoke Akindele, also called on security agencies to bring to book those behind the “dastardly act.

Akindele said the kidnap of Falae, the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, was uncalled for, having contributed immensely to the state and the nation at large.

The Speaker also called on the Federal Government to consider the 2014 confab report which recommended state police as the solution to increasing cases of insecurity.

In the same vein, the state Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Mr. Isaac Kekemeke, called on the state government and security agencies to ensure that the abductors were arrested.

Kekemeke, in a statement, said, “The state government must regulate the activities of these itinerant heardsmen, just as it regulates citizen’s use of public utilities.

“ These lawless herdsmen, if they must live in Ondo State, cannot be law unto themselves.”

In a related development, the South West farmers, popularly known as Agbekoya, on Tuesday demanded an unconditional release of Falae by his abductors or risk the wrath of its members across Yorubaland.

The farmers, under the aegis of All Farmers Association of Nigeria, South-West geo-political zone, also issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the abductors.

The AFAN S/W Zonal Coordinator, Chief Olusegun Dasaolu, announced the ultimatum in Abeokuta on Tuesday in company with the secretary of the association, Ogunjinmi Abiodun.

Dasaolu said, “The association is not unaware of the running battle between Falae and the Fulani herdsmen.

“We are ready to mobilise all farmers in the entire region to comb everywhere in the entire Yorubaland in search of Chief Falae.”

He noted that whatever affected Chief Falae on his farm could also affect any of the farmers in the geo-political zone.

He also appealed to Fulani farmers who had been living peacefully with their host communities across the South-West to join hands with AFAN in search of Chief Falae.

Dasaolu also called on security agencies to, as a matter of urgency, ensure that Chief Falae was released unconditionally and unhurt.

He said, “AFAN is not taking it lightly with the abductors; it is absurd, unacceptable.

“Our utmost interest is that Chief Falae should be released unhurt and unconditionally.”

Another building has collapsed in highbrow Lekki area of Lagos State, with many labourers reportedly trapped inside.

The spate at which buildings are collapsing in Nigeria and in Lagos especially, is becoming quite alarming, calling into question the roles of regulatory authorities.
Just a few minutes ago, a two-storey building almost nearing completion collapsed at the Agungi area of Lekki, in the state and according to eyewitnesses, many of the labourers were trapped under the debris.

Though details are still sketchy, it was gathered that many of the workers passed the night in the building, with the hope of continuing work this morning.

It is not clear as at press time how many people are trapped in the building.

The Lagos State Fire Service, the police and medical personnel are already at the scene of the incident but no rescue mission was underway at this time, as government personnel are just seeing taking pictures and have discussions…See more pics below;

Press statement signed by Sen. Ibrahim Abdullahi Danbaba on behalf of the Eighth Senate.

After majority of us, Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, witnessed the appearance of our President, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal this morning, we are happy that he appeared at the Tribunal after availing himself of the opportunity to defend his Fundamental Human Rights.

We also want to state here, on behalf of our colleagues, that the Senate remains solidly behind Senator Saraki and we express our unalloyed support for his leadership.

Crime / EFCC Declares Ex- Societe Generale Bank Director Wanted For N3.6bn Fraud by Leojamesjames(m): 5:14am On Sep 18, 2015
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has declared Kennedy Izuagbe, a former director of Societe Generale Bank Nigeria Plc and managing director of Carlisle Properties and Investment Limited, wanted.
Mr. Izuagbe, 45, who is being investigated in a case of conspiracy and money laundering to the tune of over N3.6 billion, has gone into hiding and all efforts to reach him have proved abortive, the EFCC said Thursday.
The commission said he is linked to several shady deals and gross financial misconducts that took place in the bank, in which several millions of naira were granted as loan without due diligence.
Mr. Izuagbe, believed to have fled the country, is a native of Iviukhua village, near Agenebode, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.
A statement by the EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, enjoined members of the public with information on the whereabouts of Mr. Izuagbe to contact any of its offices in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Gombe and Kano, or the nearest police station.

Politics / Drama As INEC Concludes Defence In Akwa Ibom Governorship Election Suit by Leojamesjames(m): 4:16am On Sep 18, 2015
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Thursday, concluded its defence at the Akwa Ibom State Governorship Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja.

The commission, however, caused a stir when it tendered a video to show why the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Umana Umana, could not vote on April 11.

While testifying, INEC’s witness No. 27, who also served as Nsit Ubium electoral officer, Austin Nwanna, said based on the Permanent Voter Card, PVC, records, Mr. Umana went to the wrong polling unit on April 11.

Mr. Nwanna explained that while Mr. Umana was registered in Unit 001 in Ward 4, the APC candidate had indicated in his statement that he voted in Ward 3.

The INEC official also said that there was election in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area.
Mr. Nwanna said having been involved in the distribution of election materials, he was very sure and had witnessed the conduct of election in the council area.

According to him, his functions included the supervision of election and the distribution of election materials, which he said he discharged accordingly.

During cross-examination, Mr. Nwanna was shown Exhibit 321(a), a video clip showing Mr. Umana complaining that there was no election in Nsit Ubium.

Mr. Nwana, however, debunked claims from the video and insisted that election held in majority of units in the area.

When shown Exhibits JJ 1-10, Mr. Nwanna identified a few polling units where there were no elections.

He said there were cancellations of results in seven units out of 88 units in the local government but noted that he visited over 75 units in the council area where elections successfully held.

While admitting that the APC governorship candidate stormed his office to lay complaints about the conduct of the election, he, however, insisted that none of the supervisory officers complained about lack of electoral materials.
When confronted with form EC8E, Mr. Nwanna said he supervised the collation of result, adding that the exercise was concluded at about 3am.

Shortly after Mr. Nwanna had testified, counsel to INEC, Alex Ojiekeme, said the commission is satisfied by the testimonies of the witnesses so far called.

Mr. Ojiekeme noted that INEC had concluded its defence and that the witnesses so called proved there was election in Akwa Ibom State.
The tribunal chairman, Sadiq Umar, therefore, adjourned sitting till October 8.

Justice Umar, however, advised the lawyers to go ahead and prepare their final addresses which he said would be taken at the resumed hearing.

Politics / Buhari Cancels Visit To Cross River For Groundbreaking Of 260km Highway by Leojamesjames(m): 4:09am On Sep 18, 2015
The proposed visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Cross River State for the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a 260km superhighway has been cancelled.
A statement by Christian Ita, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River, on Thursday, confirmed the cancellation.
It stated that the decision to postpone the ceremony was communicated to the governor in a letter signed by the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari.
“The presidency attributed the shift to a letter written to the president by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Environment, Nana Fatima Mede.
“She claimed that the proposed highway, if allowed to go on, would cut through the Cross River National Park.
“The letter claimed that the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) on the proposed road was yet to be carried out,” the statement said.
But Mr. Ita stated that the proposed road would not traverse the Cross River National Park, as the superhighway would be several kilometres away from the national park.
“Based on the input of the Cross River National Park, the road has since been re-routed with the alignment now several kilometers away from the park.
“As a governor who is passionate about the preservation of the state’s biodiversity with his establishment of the Green Police, he would not embark on a project that would undermine the environment,” Mr. Ita stated.
He said the EIA report on the road was being handled by environmental consultants, PGM (Nig) Limited recommended to the state by the Federal Ministry of Environment.
Mr. Ita said the governor would work closely with the presidency to clear areas of doubt, adding that a new date for the ceremony would be announced later.

Crime / NDLEA Arrest Bereau De Change Operators, Others For Swallowing 32 Million Naira by Leojamesjames(m): 3:55am On Sep 18, 2015
Six members of a suspected money laundering syndicate that specializes in swallowing dollars were today arrested at the Excel Oriental Hotel, along Airport Road in Lagos by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for allegedly swallowing US$156,000 (about N32 million) meant for export to Brazil.

In a statement released today, NDLEA said illicit exportation of currency by ingestion is a new trend in by-passing anti-money laundering operatives.

The anti-narcotic agency in its statement identified those arrested as Kingsley Nwokenta, a bureau de change operator also known as Buchito; Augustine Onwuasoanya, 54, and Christian Okoli, 35, both based in Brazil; Uzoma Ezenwa, 33, a hotel manager; Ikenna Ezenwa; and Emmanuel Nwokenta.

Investigations by NDLEA showed that Kingsley Nwokenta the owner of Amazon Bureau de Change, is the brain behind the syndicate.

“He allegedly supplied US$120,000 to be swallowed and illicitly exported to Brazil. Onwuasoanya Augustine swallowed 74 wraps of dollars amounting to US$111,000. Christian Okoli who resides in Brazil had US$45,000 which he wanted to swallow.”

The statement by the anti-narcotic agency says one of the suspects arrested, Emmanuel Nwokenta, the manager of the bureau de change, played a “supportive role” in the alleged act while Ikenna Ezenwa, 28, was hired to wrap the money.

“He is believed to have acquired his skill from illicit drug wrapping. Ezenwa Uzoma, the hotel manager who has a strong link with members of the syndicate, wilfully obstructed the officers from discharging their duty.

The agency will continue to rely on manpower training and intelligence-led drug control strategies to outwit criminal syndicates.

We shall take reasonable measures to dislodge drug cartels and eradicate narcotics from our society.

Any bureau de change operator that violates the law shall be punished accordingly.”the statement said

All the arrested members of the syndicate will be handed over to EFCC soon for further investigation.

Music/Radio / See The Top Nigerian Artist Who Have Separated From Thier Producers by Leojamesjames(m): 5:52pm On Sep 16, 2015
Every man is different from the other; even identical twins. They feel things differently, see life differently and have different goals. If identical twins are different, how much more siblings, friends, and strangers who came together for the sole purpose of doing business or other purposes?

In Nigeria’s music industry, we’ve seen different pairings between musicians and producers which produced several hits but went sour. In this piece, Naijaloaded takes a look at some of these parings that went sour.

See the List below:-

dbanj-and-don

1. D’banj and Don Jazzy: It is safe to say this is the best artist/producer pairing Nigeria has ever seen. This two made music that went viral within and outside Nigeria. They even built one of Nigeria’s biggest record labels, Mo’hits together at the time. But as good as their success story was, these two who almost started looking like brothers went their separate ways. Over the years, different reasons has emerged as to why they separated, but none has been able to console Nigerians who sourly miss the hits these two turn out effortlessly.

Wande-Coal-and-Don-Jazzy

2. Wande Coal and Don Jazzy: Wande Coal was one of the casualties of the Mo’hits split; though he stayed a while with Don Jazzy after the split, he ended up leaving anyways. Wande Coal has one of the coolest voices in Nigeria. Because of this, some people feel if he had stayed with Don Jazzy, his career will be a whole lot better than it currently is.

9ice_ID-Cabasa

3. 9ice and ID Cabasa: The combination of these two was the rave of moment at some point until the two of them went their separate ways. Coincidentally (or not) the career of the two also took a nose dive following the separation. These two gave Nigerians several hits and left them asking for more while they both make sure there was no more coming.

olamide_ID-Cabasa

4. Olamide and ID Cabasa: Arguably the hottest rapper in Nigeria at the moment. Olamide started off his career with ID Cabasa back in the days. The pairing between this two amazing guys produced Olamide’s first major hit, ‘Eni Duro’. But while Olamide took his career to the next level, ID decided to take it slow, withdraw a bit and assume the state of a living legend so to say (as we wish to see it).
