CEO of Kennis Music, the label Goldie was signed on, Kenny Ogungbe has issued a statement detailing the final hours of the late singer. “With a deep sense of loss, we announce the shocking death of our darling music star, Goldie Harvey. Goldie, 31, died on Thursday after she complained of a severe headache shortly after her arrival from the United States where she went to witness the Grammy Award. She was rushed from her Park View, Ikoyi, Lagos residence to her official hospital, Reddington, Victoria Island, Lagos, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival at exactly 7:30pm in the evening. We consider this period a gloomy moment for us and the entire Nigerian music industry in view of the circumstance in which she passed away; the abundance of talent she exhibited in her short but eventful music career and the various opportunities her trip to the United States of America would have availed her. She is survived by her father, step- mother, brothers and sisters. We deeply sympathise with her family and fans all over the world and very grateful to all and sundry, especially, the vibrant Nigerian media for their concern and prompt reportage. We shall keep everybody informed as events unfold as we are devastated by the sudden loss.” Goldie’s remains have been deposited at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH mortuary. |

The Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad, popularly called Boko Haram, which has been responsible for unleashing terror on the land and killing innocent Nigerians and foreigners alike, has asked the federal and Borno State governments to compensate its leadership, members and families of its dead members, as a major condition to sustain the one-week-old ceasefire it announced last Monday. Information Nigeria learnt that the sect’s demand for monetary compensation, which will reportedly cost both the federal and Borno State governments a minimum of N26 billion, has already been acceded to by the Borno State government, which has been most affected by the activities of the Islamist sect. The amount, it was gathered, could be higher or even lower depending on the total number of the sect members that have been extra-judicially killed by government security forces. According to a highly placed source, “the money being demanded by the sect leaders, they claim they will use it to compensate themselves, their members for all their losses, especially their houses, cars and businesses that have been destroyed by government. “They also said they need the money to take care of the families of their members that had been killed by soldiers. So, the figure for now can’t be less that N26 billion, but could be far more depending on the number of the sect members the government agreed its security agencies had killed so far. The figure can only be less if some government brings in some negotiation tricks.” http://247nigerianewsupdate.com/ceasefire-truce-boko-haram-demands-n26bn-from-fg-borno-govt/ |
President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday requested for a stay of execution of Nigerians on death role in Indonesia. Jonathan made the request while receiving the Indonesian President, Susilo Yudhoyono, who is on a two-day state visit to Nigeria at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Yudhoyono had earlier been received with a 21-gun salute at the foyer of the President’s Office by men of the Presidential Brigade of Guard before proceeding to have a bilateral talk with Jonathan. According to a communiqué issued at the end of the talk, the two Presidents expressed concern over the increasing number of Nigerians in detentions or death row. “The two leaders noted with concern the increasing number of Nigerians in detention, jails and death rows in Indonesia for drug-related offences and financial crimes. In that regard, the President of Nigeria requested his Indonesian counterpart for stay of execution of those on death row while the two countries explore opportunities for an agreement of exchange of prisoners and Mutual Legal Assistance between the two countries,” the communique read. The two leaders reiterated that drug abuse and illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and their chemical precursors needed to be combated. In order to strengthen bilateral cooperation in this area, the Presidents welcomed the signing of the MoU to combat drug abuse and illicit trafficking in narcotics drugs, psychotropic substances, and their chemical precursors. The two leaders noted that Indonesia and Nigeria were among important troops-contributing countries to UN Peace Keeping Missions. To further enhance their contributions and capacity building in peace-keeping, the two Presidents agreed to have a closer cooperation between the peace-keeping centres of both countries in order to encourage sharing of experience and best practices, as well as exchange of visit by trainers and experts. “Both leaders also agreed to promote training cooperation involving military officers of both countries by encouraging participation of Indonesian and Nigerian military officers in training programmes at the staff colleges of both countries. “The two leaders discussed the conflicts in Guinea-Bissau, Mali, and the Sahel, and the correlation between these and the war on terror. They shared the view that terrorism remains a global security threat. They therefore agreed to foster closer bilateral partnership to address this threat by cooperating closely in exchange of information, training and education as well as sharing of best practices. “The two leaders instructed the relevant agencies of both countries to asses counter-terrorism needs upon which bilateral collaboration would be appropriately developed.” It further learnt that the two presidents expressed the determination to encourage agriculture cooperation between the two countries especially in the areas of cocoa, palm oil, and rubber plantations as well as the revival of groundnut cultivation in the North. Jonathan told journalists at the end of the talk that it was obvious that most countries would not be able to meet the 2015 deadline for the MDGs. “The Millenium Development Goal period was supposed to end in 2015 but from the look of things, most countries cannot meet up,” he said. The Indonesian President extended an invitation to Jonathan for a similar visit to his country. http://247nigerianewsupdate.com/fg-pleads-for-nigerians-on-indonesias-death-row/ |
Embattled member of the House of the Representatives, Hon. Farouk Lawan on Friday passed his first day in Kuje Maximum Prisons, Abuja amid tight security provided by the military and mobile policemen. His presence in the prison has also turned it to a beehive of activities as dignitaries, especially his associates thronged the prison yesterday to empathise with him. Sources in the prison said that Lawan upon arrival in the facility was not accorded any VIP treatment He was allegedly ushered into the prison yard to rousing welcome of inmates. According to the sources, Lawan only stared into space and shook his head in disbelief. Asked if he was allocated a special room, one of the sources, who refused to disclose the hall and room number for security reasons, acknowledged that Lawan was allocated a bed in the “important personalities” block in the prison yard. It could not be established if the lawmaker shares the cell with his co-accused, Mr. Boniface Emenalo. The former chairman, House of Representatives Ad- hoc Committee on Fuel Subsidy was remanded in prison custody on Friday by Justice Mudashiru Oniyangi of the Abuja High Court over his alleged receipt of $620,000 bribe from businessman, Mr. Femi Otedola. Although the entry points into the prison was mounted by fierce-looking armed military and mobile police men, who were assisted by prisons wardens, who had sniffer dogs, restricted movement in the area. LEADERSHIP SUNDAY gathered from impeccable sources that the lawmaker who was remanded alongside the secretary of the ad-hoc panel, Mr. Boniface Emenalo, was in high spirit as he received his political associates. A top prison official, who craved anonymity, told LEADERSHIP SUNDAY that some People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chiefs and other prominent Nigerians, who did not want to be seen at the yard, arrived in the prisons gate as early as 6. 30am in exotic cars. It was also learnt that three inmates were usually assigned to a room in the VIP cells for security reasons. “Prisons authorities do not allow a single person in a cell be it VIP or ordinary cell for security reasons. In fact, he has been allocated a room where he will no doubt sleep on a double bunk bed with a fan,” the source added. The officials of the prisons have reportedly granted Lawan the privilege of eating the food brought by his family members. LEADERSHIP SUNDAY saw a light skin man, identified as Mohammed, exchanging pleasantries with a serving senator, who rode in a Toyota Sienna, with the inscription RE 55AAA at the gate with a food flask. The two lawmakers will remain in the prison till February 8, 2013 when the matter would come up for hearing. http://247nigerianewsupdate.com/how-farouk-lawan-spent-his-first-day-in-prison/ |

2me,I don't think havin a tatoo on a part of ur body is a determinant of goin to hell, tatoo can be said 2b a kind of fashion that has eroded our societies long time ago, its imbeded in our culture and its as old as human society itself. In d olden days, pple paint their faces,body,@d time of war,warlords/warriors do make sum painting in order to scare pple. Fire emergencies can occur without warning and can be deadly. It is thus very essential to be prepared for a fire emergency. One of the primary things that all individuals should know is how to use a fire extinguisher. A fire extinguisher is a great tool that will help you to fight small fires and limit their reach before they become too big and engulf the whole area. In addition, fire extinguishers are like the first line of defence and can be very efficient too. Therefore it is very important that you know exactly how to use a fire extinguisher. Before using your fire extinguisher, be sure to read the instructions before it's too late. Although there are many different types of fire extinguishers, all of them operate in a similar manner. A typical fire extinguisher contains 10 seconds of extinguishing power. This could be less if it has already been partially discharged. Always read the instructions that come with the fire extinguisher beforehand and become familiarized with its parts. It is highly recommended by fire prevention experts that you get hands-on training before operating a fire extinguisher. Most local fire departments offer this service. Once the fire is out, don't walk away! Watch the area for a few minutes in case it re-ignites. Recharge the extinguisher immediately after use. Use this acronym as a quick reference (it is a good idea to print this reference and pin it next to your fire extinguisher): P A S S Pull the Pin at the top of the extinguisher. The pin releases a locking mechanism and will allow you to discharge the extinguisher. Aim at the base of the fire, not the flames. This is important - in order to put out the fire, you must extinguish the fuel. Squeeze the lever slowly. This will release the extinguishing agent in the extinguisher. If the handle is released, the discharge will stop. Sweep from side to side. Using a sweeping motion, move the fire extinguisher back and forth until the fire is completely out. Operate the extinguisher from a safe distance, several feet away, and then move towards the fire once it starts to diminish. Be sure to read the instructions on your fire extinguisher - different fire extinguishers recommend operating them from different distances. Remember: Aim at the base of the fire, not at the flames. These should be kept in mind before using a fire extinguisher. It is also important that you be careful while using a fire extinguisher and maintain a safe distance from the fire. You should also be able to assess the fire and the type of fire extinguisher to make sure the fire extinguisher will provide the reduction needed. Using this understanding of how to use a fire extinguisher, you can now be in a much better position to fight fires in case of an emergency.
