And after all that some of your colleagues will still be hell-bent on putting innocent people behind bars.
ProgrammingRe: Ambitious Programmers Lets Talk by LexPrescott(m): 12:27pm On Oct 08, 2016
I dunno, but the OP just said what I've been thinking about all this while. I remember joining one programming WhatsApp group I found on Nairaland. I tried to organize things...by asking every member of the group to brainstorm ideas we could work on as a team. Some sort of project. I ended up bringing the killer idea (w're all novices/beginners though). I'd love to share that idea when I'm added to the WhatsApp group you guys are creating through this thread. But the point is, they rejected my idea, coz it wouldn't bring in cash (at least not immediately). You see, it was all about money to them. The program for money. I have so much passion for coding that I was disappointed, not because my idea was rejected, but because they only wanted to do something to fetch the cash, not becasue of the their passion for coding. I would love to be a part of your team if you'd let me (I'm a quick learner, at least when it comes to coding). Here's my number: 08132815085
ProgrammingRe: Programming, Where To Study In Nigeria by LexPrescott(m): 12:16pm On Oct 08, 2016
You don't need to go to school to study programming. Most of the languages I learned I read up myself. Just go online, download a book, get a complier and start coding. If you ask me, I'd say go to www.dummies.com ; their books are exceptionally beginner-friendly. Find a book on any programming language you want to learn, and start coding. You'd enjoy it. smiley

ProgrammingRe: I Need A Teacher by LexPrescott(m): 6:56pm On Sep 03, 2016
Lemme tell you something people not many Nigerians know. You don't need an actual teacher to learn anyting in this 21st century. All you need to learn programming is a computer and an internet access. You can get all the materials and teaching aids you will ever need online. I learnt Python all by myself, and now I've started C++. We're on vacation, but before we resume, I would no longer be a novice in that language (because that's the language we'd be learning next semester).

The bottom line: Go online, download books (most are in PDF). Get a complier and start writing your programs. Programmers should learn by coding, not by sitting in boring lectures listening to bla bla bla. A free site to visit is codeacademy.com its free, and has an online console for running your applications. Simply sign up and start coding online. You don't need a teacher, my friend.
ProgrammingRe: Python Vs C# by LexPrescott(m): 6:49pm On Sep 03, 2016
I learnt Python first. I'd recommend you start with Python, but not because I did so. Most schools in the US teach Python as the first programming language. Python is easier to learn as it has simple syntaxes, making it possible to for the user to focus more on the problem than on the language/syntax. If you start with Pyton, you become familiar with the programming concept. Besides, Python is an interpreted language, so you don't have to worry about memory management and loaders/linkers and all that stuff. Although C++ is faster, you wouldn't worry about speed now as a beginner so I don't think that matters.

Programming is Fun
When the power is on
If you wanna learn, son
Go for Python.
ProgrammingRe: C++ Programming For Beginners by LexPrescott(m):
I'm a beginner too.
Mark Zuckerberg learned C++ with 'C++ For Dummies' by Stephen Randy Davis (5th Edition). I'm learning with the latest (7th) Edition of the book now; plus its free. Google it.

Hope that helps. smiley
