For some of us who may have dificulty in opening the browser page, check out the full story. (Source: Guardian news). Court To Hear George's Bail Application Nov 9 By Yetunde Oyegbami THE Lagos High Court, Ikeja has fixed Monday, November 9 for hearing in the bail application filed by jailed former National Deputy Chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George and five others. A former chairman, Board of Directors, Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), George was jailed earlier in the week by Justice Olubunmi along with five others on the board. They were jailed over abuse of contract awards as well as abuse of power during their tenure (2001-2003). Their counsel, led by Mr. Tunji Ayanlaja (SAN) and Dele Adesina (SAN) had filed notice of appeal and bail pending the determination of the appeal on Wednesday, October 28, and in response to their applications, Justice Oyewole yesterday fixed November 9, for hearing of the application. George, according to a sworn- affidavit presented to the courts is seeking bail on health grounds alleging "hypertension with arthritis." The former PDP chieftain, along with Aminu Dabo, Captain Olusegun Abidoye, Alhaji Abdullahi Aminu Tafida, Alhaji Zanna Maidaribe and Alhaji Sule Aliyu are currently serving a two-year jail term each at the Kirikiri Maximum prison. The convicts had filed the applications, "motion on notice" dated October 28 for accelerated hearing of the matter, "brought pursuant to section 10 and 51 of the High Court of Lagos State Law 2003 and under the inherent jurisdiction of this honorable court." Ayanlaja and Adesina claimed they have served the respondent, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC). Counsel to EFCC, Mr. Festus Keyamo, admitted receiving the applications. He demanded three days each to respond to the six applications but was overruled by the court. Explaining his position, Keyamo said he got George's application on Wednesday and the last filing on Thursday night, requesting for time to respond. Ayanlaja appealed for Keyamo's understanding, while Adesina said it was possible for Keyamo to operate on Saturday and Sunday to quicken his response to all the applications. Justice Oyewole urged all the parties to exchange all necessary documents within a week. |

I just read this in www.saharareporters.com. The story goes thus: Judge Christopher Hardy of the Southwark Crown Court in London has dismissed the application brought before the court by Ibori's mistress, Udoamaka Onuigbo asking the court to declare her arrest in Paris null and void. She'd claimed through her lawyer that the Metropolitan police officer DC MacDonald who applied and got the European arrest warrant manipulated the magistrate that granted it. But the judge declared that the non-declaration of the existence of an Nigerian court case against Mrs. Onuigbo did not materially alter the facts presented in obtaining the warrant that nabbed her in Paris late last year. The judge said that it was obvious that Mrs. Onuigbo was evading the London Metropolitan police in violation of her bail conditions and therefore dismissed the application noting that all the objections raised were speculative. The judge accused her lawyer, Messrs Trollope of abusing the court process by bringing the application in the first place, Today's ruling effectively shuts down further attempts to spring Onuigbo out of the UK on technicality. The arguments had lasted for two days and was effectively misrepresented to the Nigerian public by Ibori and his media propaganda aides who claimed the London mets officer, Mc Donald admitted to the court that he "lied" to obtain the warrants. This is against a backdrop of false and misleading stories publish yesterday by some Nigeria Newspaper (e.g ThisDay & Independent) telling us that the Metropolitan police officer handling the case admitted some lies. Fellow Nrld's if we can't trust our media any more, then who do we trust now. Is it Ibori, Aondokaa, Yar,adua or , ? Pls ur input |
The Thailand Ministry of Public Health conducted the study, which used strains of HIV common in Thailand. Whether such a vaccine would work against other strains in the U.S., Africa or elsewhere in the world is unknown, scientists stressed. Pls, quote the above statement by the vaccine developers. I am not disputing the efficacy of the vaccine, but it may not work well in Africa. So NRLD's let's be carefull and always pray against this evil and deadly disease. |

Honestly I dislike Foot Ball! Imagine dudes wasting their enormouse and precious time watching the so-called UEFA, LALIGA and all sort of rubish. What baffles me most is the way and manner my peolple have constituted themselves into fans, clubs, supporters and all what not. showering encomium on foreign players against the back drop of our local players. I am recommending in its entirerity (if I have my way) a capital punishment to be melted down on any individual seeing supporting any foreign club so as to serve as detriments to others. My own view sha! |
For those of us who can't access the site, the storry goes like this: [ Traffic Police use Koboko to control motorists Determined to effect compliance of traffic regulations in Kaduna, some traffic police officers have resorted to the use of `Koboko' or horse whips, to enforce traffic regulations. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some of the traffic police officers were using the whips to compel obedience of traffic regulations. Some traffic officers at Kano Road by Lagos Road Junction, whipped some recalcitrant motorists. Some of the road users said the koboko initiative was paying off as motorists had started to fall in line. Mr Anthony Adum, a private vehicle owner said: `` This koboko thing has helped. Now these `Okada' boys and the bus drivers have started behaving themselves.'' Adum testified to the public lashing of a notorious driver who tried to ``pull a fast one on the officers''. At the Command Juction, some traffic police were sighted using koboko to control motorists. An Army officer, who preferred anonymity, lamented the reckless manner the commercial drivers and the ``young boys on holidays'' drove on the road. ``In fact, we advise the traffic police to make the use of koboko a standard practice to deter reckless driving,'' he said. However, some of the drivers and the commercial motor-cyclists said they were opposed to the use of koboko on them.

|
I came across the topic on the DAILY TRIUMPH NEWSPAPER this morning. Traffic Police use Koboko to control motoristsI wonder how on earth at this civilized era a koboko (whips) or whatsoever should be used to control human beings, I thought it was meant for animals. Fellow Nairalanders please correct me if 'am wrong. |
