https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDfc3DFgCl0 The President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Afam Osigwe, says the rift between Aliko Dangote and the recently resigned Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed, was becoming embarrassing for public officers and the government. Ahmed tendered his resignation on Wednesday evening, barely 24 hours after allegations of corruption were leveled against him by Dangote. “I don’t know the facts, and I just saw the breaking news on your screen. It would be unfair for me to take sides with any of the parties, but sometimes the perception of corruption may be weightier than the actual proof of corruption. “And it would be unfair to condemn him, but I can say that the matter is becoming publicly embarrassing for public officers and for the government, and I think the government is being decisive in accepting their resignation. “I mean the breaking news has always said that they resigned. So I would like to say that, look, you’re heating up the system. Your continuous actions are making things difficult and attracting negative attention. “I’m not privy to the meeting, but I also think you know so. And then with the ICPC indicating that they would investigate the allegation, I think the President was being decisive. Whether they were encouraged to resign or willingly resigned remains to be seen. “But let it also not be that these allegations were used to get rid of a person and then nothing more happens. Let there be a proper investigation so that the man either clears his name or it is proven that he was actually corrupt or guilty of the allegation,” he said.

While ECOWAS called the coup an unconstitutional move, Nigeria sent air force fighter jets and ground troops to take over Benin’s airspace and help dislodge the coup plotters. Lifestylecom: |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9k_wZF9AoxQ In the Republic of Benin, an attempted military coup was thwarted by the government, after soldiers appeared on national television claiming to have seized power. But barely 12 hours later, Benin President Patrice Talon announced that the coup attempt was foiled, stating that the country’s armed forces and national guard remained loyal to the republic. Meanwhile, 14 people have been arrested in connection with the coup attempt. In the same vein, the coup leader Pascal Tigri reappeared in a video which went viral, stating that they undertook the mission to “free” Benin from the dictatorship of President Talon, before telling France to stay out of their internal affairs. While ECOWAS called the coup an unconstitutional move, Nigeria sent air force fighter jets and ground troops to take over Benin’s airspace and help dislodge the coup plotters. As a result, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commended Nigeria’s military for responding “swiftly” to the request by the Government of Benin to save its democracy from coup plotters. Online, it has prompted a wave of reactions, with some questioning why Nigeria is defending democracy in a foreign country while democracy at home is in disarray.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tu7GfpSLEdk “You can’t fail in every aspect. You fail in security, you fail in economy, you fail in culture and you fail in sports. So, you fail in everything, and you expect that people are going to remark on those failures,” he said. Adebayo also raised concerns about the state of security in parts of the northern region, noting that widespread instability continued to hinder development. “So you cannot Afghanistasize your own country and expect people to sing your praises. You cannot take every index that you meet and make it worse. Unemployment is worse. Inflation is worse. Security is worse. International profile of the country is worse,” he stated. He further commented on diplomatic appointments and overall governance, adding: “You either don’t have the competence to appoint ambassadors or you can’t find competent ambassadors to appoint. Either side of the coin is a failure. So you can’t police the state. You can’t secure the state. You fail. You don’t even have enough mental capacity to explain your failure.” Describing what he sees as a lack of strategic direction, he said: “From all indications, the government has lost its map and it’s just waking up every day reacting to any new incident or the umbrage whether local or international. There is no rational observer who would say, this is the trajectory of where the presidency was headed to.” He argued that the administration had not yet fully settled into a cohesive operational structure. “President Tinubu has lost control of his own government which he hasn’t had time to put together to start with,” he said. Using a maritime analogy, Adebayo likened leadership challenges to a captain unable to navigate a ship: “They definitely are in the wilderness. And if the captain of a ship cannot find his way to the bridge… then he has no control over the speed of the sail…”8

“A narrow narrative that frames Nigeria’s security situation solely as the persecution of Christians oversimplifies the issue. “Religious and ethnic violence is driven more by governance failures and worsened by hate speech and conspiracy theories,” she said. Lifestylecom: |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5pPljW0Pbs The Director of the Africa Programme at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Oge Onubogu, has urged both the Nigerian and United States governments to adopt a holistic, governance-focused approach to tackling insecurity in Nigeria, rather than viewing it solely through a religious lens. Onubogu spoke during a U.S. Congress hearing held by the House Subcommittee on Africa to examine former U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to return Nigeria to the Country of Particular Concern (CPC) list over alleged religious persecution. She recommended deeper engagement with faith communities, the appointment of a capable Nigerian ambassador to Washington, and strengthened diplomatic and policy cooperation between both nations. According to her, efforts to address Nigeria’s insecurity should include “engaging with communities of all faiths, supporting moderate leaders, tying security assistance to governance reforms, and working more closely with state and local authorities,” as well as reviving a bipartisan U.S. Congressional Caucus on Nigeria. Onubogu argued that U.S.–Nigeria relations remain complicated despite shared interests in counterterrorism and economic development. She warned that Nigeria’s persistent instability threatens both regional stability and global security, noting that “Nigeria’s instability stems from a key shortcoming. Despite 64 years of independence, it has yet to establish a national identity grounded in basic freedoms and dignity.” Drawing from her upbringing in Jos and her family’s missionary background, she cautioned against a narrow narrative that frames Nigeria’s violence solely as religious persecution. “A narrow narrative that frames Nigeria’s security situation solely as the persecution of Christians oversimplifies the issue,” she told the committee. She stressed that insecurity in Nigeria is driven more by governance failures, historical grievances, and social tensions than by religion alone. She described the current crisis as “a mix of religious extremism, banditry, criminality, resource competition, communal conflict, and separatist agitation,” warning that religion will continue to shape identity and politics ahead of the 2027 general elections. Onubogu also rejected claims by the Trump administration that Nigeria is permitting targeted killings of Christians, arguing that such claims ignore wider realities of extremist and criminal violence. She strongly cautioned against any form of U.S. military intervention, warning that such unilateral action “would likely endanger the very Christians it aims to protect” and deepen religious divisions. She urged the U.S. to avoid “reactive quick-win actions” and instead support long-term governance reforms, peacebuilding, and community engagement. The hearing, chaired by Rep. Chris Smith, also featured Nigerian Catholic Bishop Wilfred Anagbe and religious-freedom advocate Nina Shea, both of whom called for stronger U.S. measures to address what they described as targeted persecution of Christians in Nigeria. The controversy followed Trump’s reinstatement of Nigeria on the CPC list on October 31, claiming systematic persecution of Christians and hinting at possible military options. The Nigerian government has firmly rejected the allegations. https://voicenews.com.ng/csis-director-urges-engagement-of-faith-communities-stronger-u-s-nigeria-relations-to-address-insecurity/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5pPljW0Pbs Oge Onubogu, senior fellow and director, Africa Program, Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), warned the US against military action in Nigeria, saying that it could endanger Christians it aims to protect. “If the Trump administration proceeds with unilateral military action in Nigeria, it could endanger the Christians it aims to protect and worsen divisions along religious lines,” Onubogu said at the US Congress on Thursday. “A narrow narrative that reduces Nigeria’s security situation to a single story and frames it solely as the persecution of Christians, oversimplifies the situation,” she added.
