Nurses and midwives, under the auspices of National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Plateau State chapter, recently threatened to go on strike. Their threat, notwithstanding the continued spread of coronavirus in Nigeria, is over alleged non-provision of Personal Protective Equipment for the health workers. Chairperson of the council in the state, Briskila Dabit, tells JAMES ABRAHAM about the planned strike and other issues affecting the healthcare sector in the state Nurses are among the front-line workers in the care for coronavirus patients. How prepared are your people at this time of crisis? Naturally, nurses are the most hit during this era of coronavirus because they are in the forefront. When you also talk about the population in a hospital set-up, they are in the majority. Sometimes, you can see between 10 and 20 nurses to just two or three doctors. That is the situation in most health facilities in Plateau State and elsewhere in Nigeria. But even in the face of the danger, we cannot abandon our patients. Your group recently threatened to go on strike over lack of protective gear for members, how bad is the situation? It is true that I addressed a press conference over the matter but I did not say that we were going on strike. I only instructed nurses not to attend to any patient if personal protective equipment is not given – that is if they don’t have it or if the government does not make it available for them in order not risk their lives by attending to patients with suspected cases of coronavirus. I told nurses that for them to attend to a COVID-19 patient, they must have a complete PPE. When those things are in place, there is no need to go on strike. We are here to save lives. After all, those who are sick are our brothers, sisters, relations, husbands, wives and so on. As nurses, we are out to help but we want the government to also cooperate with us and ensure that the necessary things we need to fight this coronavirus safely are made available. How long has that been going on as people are wondering why you are just speaking out now? We have to complain now because we don’t understand what is happening with the plans and other arrangements being put in place by the state government regarding the fight against the coronavirus. There were some committees set up by the government, including central planning and sub-committees and nurses, who are in the forefront of taking care of the patients, are not being carried along. As I said initially, we are in the majority when you talk about health care. Go to Jos University Teaching Hospital and you will discover that the majority of the health professionals there are nurses. If you go to Plateau State specialist hospitals, you will find the same thing. You will also find the same thing in other health facilities across the state. And all the nurses in those places have been calling and complaining to me that they don’t have this and that. There is no PPE for them. https://punchng.com/plateau-nurses-get-n1000-each-as-monthly-hazard-allowance-dabit-state-nurses-association-chair/?amp=1&__twitter_impression=true |

Buhari urged the Executive Council of the Federation (EXCOF) to declare Yar'Adua incapacitated and have him impeached. On Tuesday, March 9, 2010, former Head of State, Buhari urged the Executive Council of the Federation (EXCOF) to declare Yar'Adua incapacitated and have him impeached due to his inability to carry out his official duties. The former Head of State said further that Yar’Adua’s removal was the only viable option out of the political logjam caused by his long absence. Buhari made the comments when members of the National Unity Forum paid him a visit in Kaduna. He also criticized the National Assembly for using “extra-constitutional measures” to empower Goodluck Jonathan as Acting President when the constitution already had a solution to the problem. The Senate had, on February 9, 2010, controversially used the “doctrine of necessity” to transfer presidential powers to Jonathan, and declared him Acting President until Yar'Adua returned to full health. “Political expediency won't remedy this kind of problem because if the Executive Council of the Federation had acted in accordance with the constitution, by invoking the necessary sections to declare the President incapacitated, we would not have found ourselves in this present situation," Buhari said. “As you can see, adopting extra-constitutional measures have not addressed the problem. If it had, we would not have been subjected to the raging debates and controversy going on. “So, we must go back to the constitution. The Executive Council of the Federation must do the right thing because once we start moving away from the constitution, then we are inviting anarchy,” Buhari added. In response to Buhari however, the Senate said that it would not impeach Yar’Adua despite pressure to do so. https://www.pulse.ng/news/local/throwback-thursday-how-buhari-called-for-impeachment-of-sick-absent-yaradua-in-2010/2wrsm0c.amp?__twitter_impression=true |
This was all I had. Nobody brought any ‘special medications for me’ I have not seen anyone taking any special medications after testing positive for covid-19. Just putting this out because people have been asking me about medications. To be honest, I didn’t feel relieved after taking the cough syrup. My cough went from dry to productive and it was associated with chest pains while coughing. Sometimes, it would feel like you can taste blood after coughing. The vitamin C is effervescent and kinda sweet so The paracetamol helped with the fever and body aches but that was just about it. My nose was flowing and I had to blow my nose a lot of times to be able to get enough air. I didn’t want to create a false impression for myself that I was in respiratory distress. I couldn’t taste or perceive anything for a day and by the next day, it started resolving gradually. So fever, aches, bad cough which started off dry and became productive (yellowish sputum) and associates chest pains from coughing and loss of taste and perception. I felt like shit . I made sure I was eating well, fruits and all. I had naija beans and I had eggs so I made sure I wasn’t just eating junk. I didn’t miss any meals. I slept as much as I could and tried to rest my brain. The people in the hospital are not getting any special medications. Nobody is hiding any treatment from you. They can get salbutamol nebules to help clear their airways. Saline nebules as well. They are on iv fluids and those in resp failure, get regular arterial blood gases People are so used to getting treatment for every little itch in Nigeria, so they assume there is a medication somewhere for covid-19 that people are getting. Nobody is getting anything like that. You don’t get admitted in the Uk until you have severe respiratory symptoms and would need help with your breathing. People are told to stay home and isolate and manage their symptoms. I got tested because I had just finished calls few days prior to my symptoms starting and I work in a hyper acute unit. I had interactions with other doctors and health staff and it was essential to contact trace . Nobody needs covid-19 clout. It’s not a death sentence but it’s also very unpredictable and people are dying from it. That is why social distancing is important. You can get through it but what about your neighbors? Are they safe ?

Martinez39s:exactly what we're debating about. You are seeking for equality but it's my duty to Kneel and propose To woo you To cough out my feelings first To take you out and spend on you To share my salary To know when you need to change your hair To read your minds and moods To walk close to the main road to shield you etc It's laughable |
Martinez39s:but won't push for more female soldiers in the army like their male counterparts... Na the good stuff dey hungry them lol ![]() |
The idea of modern feminism is a scam. It tells women they have rights to the traditional male role BUT refusing men any right to the traditional female role. See the outrage if a man tells his wife that he wants to stay @ home, looking after the children while she supports him. Feminists lie that they're advocating for gender EQUALITY but in REALITY they're fighting for gender ADVANTAGE. All feminism has done is give women the BENEFITS of being a man but non of the RESPONSIBILITIES. She won't submit to you BUT will submit the BILLS to you. You cant hold on to gender equality & still expect a man you are dating to foot your bills. Be equal to your bills. It's ridiculous to see women tweet a man should have money yet they're "independent". We are equal now right, so why can't you be the rich one & take care of him. Feminism has misled millions of women to want equality with men & prove that they can do what men can do & do it even better. Feminism has robbed women of their UNIQUENESS & failed to realise that women were created to do what men can't. Women are now more like men without the Toxic Feminism will destroy chivalry and the kind acts of gentlemanliness. Equality is bad when you want only the benefits, and non of its responsibilities. The equation has never been balanced. Just as a female child is trained to be a puppet, the male child is trained to be a robotic slowpoke who has been programmed to see his ability to provide as his only sense of value. He will continue to be relevant as long as he can make money and provide, he can do anything as long as he has the cash. When a man's sense of value is attached exclusively to what he has to offer, not only has he been partially condemned, he stands a chance of greater condemnation and humiliation when he is unable to deliver. For a male child he has no chance or excuse to fail, and we all can see where that has led the society so far. The pains a male child suffers. We all have a very long way to go, but the first step is elevating SELF LOVE. Preach Self Love across all genders, no one deserves to be caged. |
A student from Cameroon is reportedly on the way to a full recovery after being diagnosed with the coronavirus that has been plaguing the rest of the world for weeks. According to Business in Cameroon, the Chinesembassy to Cameroon reports that Kem Senou Pavel Daryl is believed to have contracted the virus while living in Zhengzhou which is the capital of China’s Henan province. After experiencing flu-like symptoms, a dry cough, and a fever on January 28th, he began a treatment of intense antibiotics and medicine usually reserved for HIV patients. Now the 21-year-old has been released from the hospital and is recovering in his dormitory while he is under the mandatory two-week quarantine period needed before being allowed back in the general population. A recent CT scan showed no remaining signs of the virus, which makes him simultaneously the first known African to be infected and also the first to be totally cured. As of the time of this report, no other African victims of the virus have been reported. https://thegrio.com/2020/02/19/first-african-to-be-diagnosed-with-coronavirus-also-becomes-the-first-to-recover/amp/?__twitter_impression=true |

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted permission to two civil society groups to commence a suit seeking to compel the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to prosecute a former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, on corruption charges. Justice Ahmed Mohammed, on March 3, 2020, granted the leave to the groups, but a copy of the enrolled order of the court was only seen by our correspondent on Monday. The plaintiffs are Kingdom Human Rights Foundation International and the Rights for All International. They sued EFCC, Rochas, Zigreat International Company Limited, Eze Enwereku, and Duru Onyeobi, as the first to the fifth respondents, respectively. The plaintiffs had in their ex parte application filed on February 10, 2020, accused EFCC of refusing to investigate or prosecute Okorocha along with the third to the fifth defendants for various corruption allegations contained in a petition submitted to the agency as far back as August 22, 2019. Okorocha stepped down as Imo State governor on May 29, 2019 and was later sworn in as the senator representing Imo West Senatorial District. The groups accused him and the other defendants of “money laundering, inflated contract, unlawful award and execution of contract without due process and breach of the Procurement Act, criminal over-inflation of contract sum and non-execution and completion of contracts fully paid for with public fund.” Ruling on the ex parte application moved by the plaintiffs’ lawyer, Mr Kingdom Okere, Justice Mohammed granted it and ordered that the respondents should be served with the substantive suit to enable them to respond to it. https://punchng.com/court-okays-request-to-begin-suit-seeking-okorochas-trial/amp/?__twitter_impression=true |

Residents of Owode Quarters in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, were stunned on Wednesday when an apprentice, Peter David, was caught making love to a pregnant goat at an uncompleted building in the neighbourhood. David, who claimed to be an indigene of Benue State, was caught in the act following the bleating of the goat which drew the attention of some residents and officials of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company on duty at the quarters that morning. The residents said the goat was helpless for about two hours after the incident as it foamed in the mouth and bleed in the private parts. Police later arrived at the scene and took away the man and the goat. A resident, Mrs Oluwasola Ayodele, said the BEDC officials drew her attention to the incident while she in turn called others to witness the act she described as an abomination. Ayodele said she called for assistance when the man wanted to escape through River Ofin to Ifeoluwa Community, but one Pastor Gbenga Ajulo caught him. Ajulo, who is the minister in charge of Christ Apostolic Church, Throne of Mercy, Owode, said he was praying in the church when he heard the goat’s continuous bleating. “About seven minutes later, I heard somebody calling my name and shouting for help. I came out and saw the man trying to escape and I caught him. “When we sat him down, we asked him what happened and he confessed that he was having sex with the goat. For about two hours, the goat was foaming in the mouth and bleeding in the private parts. “This is a bad omen. It is evil. I suspect the act is for ritual. There is the need for cleansing. Beyond, all these strange diseases in society are from acts like this. He would have contacted diseases from having carnal knowledge of the goat,” the cleric said. Ayodele said she called for assistance when the man wanted to escape through River Ofin to Ifeoluwa Community, but one Pastor Gbenga Ajulo caught him. I came out and saw the man trying to escape and I caught him. The chairman of the neighbouring Ifeoluwa Community, Mr Abel Bankole, who described the occurrence as ‘strange,’ said there should be medical examination of the young man. “He would have contracted diseases from such act. Something has to be done so that he does not infect others through sexual intercourse,” he added. The police spokesman for Ekiti State Command, Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the incident, said, “Men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad Department arrested a man that was sleeping with goat in the neighbourhood. https://punchng.com/apprentice-caught-having-sex-with-pregnant-goat-in-ekiti/amp/?__twitter_impression=true |
