A Pastor, Frankline Ndifor, 39, who laid his hands on dozens of confirmed and suspected coronavirus sufferers is dead, according to Dailymail.co.uk Dr Gaelle Nnanga, who was called to treat Ndifor after he started suffering severe respiratory difficulties a week after falling ill with the virus, said the pastor died ten minutes after treatment. Ndifor, a candidate in Cameroon’s presidential election in 2018, claimed to cure COVID-19. In previous weeks, sufferers had flocked to the Kingship International Ministries Church, founded by Ndifor, where he laid his hands on them and prayed for their healing. His supporters called him a ‘prophet’ and blocked the entrance to his home in the capital city of Douala for eight hours as medical workers tried to retrieve Ndifor’s body on Saturday morning. The Governor of the coastal region said a police force had to be deployed when supporters blocked the entrance to his home and claimed the pastor was on a spiritual retreat with God so he could not be buried. They sang and prayed for his resurrection throughout the weekend. He was buried in front of the house on the day of his death. Dozens of people knelt down on the ground outside Ndifor’s house in Cameroon as they prayed over the loss of a man who called himself a ‘prophet’. Ndifor also donated buckets and soap to people in need and his last public outing was on April 20, when he went out to distribute facemasks. Ndifor came seventh out of nine candidates in the 2018 presidential election with 23,687 votes. There have been 3,529 confirmed cases of coronavirus, and 140 deaths so far in the central African state. https://punchng.com/pastor-who-lay-hands-on-covid-19-patients-dies/ |

Madagascar President Andry Rajoelina on Monday batted away criticism for promoting a homegrown “remedy” for COVID-19, charging that the West has a condescending attitude toward traditional African medicine. “If it wasn’t Madagascar, and if it was a European country that had actually discovered this remedy, would there be so much doubt? I don’t think so,” he told French media in an interview. The World Health Organization has repeatedly warned that the COVID-Organics infusion, which Rajoelina has touted as a remedy against the deadly coronavirus, has not been clinically tested. The drink is derived from artemisia – a plant with proven anti-malarial properties – and other indigenous herbs. “African scientists… should not be underestimated,” he told France 24 and Radio France International (RFI). “I think the problem is that (the drink) comes from Africa and they can’t admit… that a country like Madagascar… has come up with this formula to save the world,” said Rajoelina, who claims the infusion cures patients within 10 days. Already Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Niger and Tanzania have taken delivery of consignments of the potion, which was launched last month. “No country or organisation will keep us from going forward,” Rajoelina said in response to the WHO’s concerns. He said proof of the tonic’s efficacy was in “the healing of our sick”. Madagascar has officially reported 183 coronavirus infections and 105 recoveries, with no deaths. “The patients who were cured were cured through the administration of Covid-Organics alone,” the president said. He referred to the remedy as “an improved traditional medicine”, adding that Madagascar was not conducting clinical trials but “clinical observations” in accordance with WHO guidelines. |

The Federal Government, in partnership with states, is set to start feeding schoolchildren in their home, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, announced on Wednesday. On April 8, The PUNCH reported that the Federal Government had finalised plans with state governments to start feeding schoolchildren in their respective homes. Speaking on Wednesday at the Presidential Task Force briefing on COVID-19 in Abuja, Umar-Farouq said the government had overhauled the school feeding programme in a way to ensure that schoolchildren were fed at home despite the lockdown. She said, “We have made progress in the overhauling of the homegrown school feeding programme and sensitisation has already begun in the three frontline states of Ogun, Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory for implementation. “The overhauling was sequel to a March 29, 2020 directive by Mr President to identify modalities and continuation of the school feeding programme during the COVID-19 pandemic in the lockdown states as of then.” She noted that following the directives, her ministry in the collaboration with state governors worked out modalities for the implementation home feeding programme, adding that the initiative was set to commence. “The plan has been adopted, with implementation now set to begin. The programme will therefore be carried out based on data provided and structures put in place by participating states with support from partners that include the World Food Programme.” The minister had explained that the food would be distributed door-to-door, as vouchers would be allocated at specific collection times to avoid overcrowding. She explained that the vouchers would be redeemed at designated distribution sites. This came as the Federal Government on Wednesday handed food items to the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for vulnerable women across the country. https://punchng.com/fg-statesll-feed-schoolchildren-at-home-minister-insists/?amp=1&__twitter_impression=true |
