Crime › Armed Robbers Threatens Lagos Communities, Demand N30 Million by lilykach02(op): 3:00pm On Jul 18, 2015 |
Residents of Ajao Estate on Airport Road, Lekki Phase 1 and Ikosi GRA, Lagos are no longer sleeping with their two eyes closed, since they received a letter from suspected armed robbers, who advised them to organize the sum of N30 million and keep for them. The letter was dated June 30th 2015 and is unsigned. It was pasted at the gates of private homes of three residents of the affected communities. Speaking to our Correspondent, a resident of one the affected metropolitan areas, Lekki Phase 1, a retired civil servant, Mr. Adeyinka Adejimoke, stated that the letter was posted at the gate of the chairman residents association of the area. “It was pasted it at the gate of the our Chairman, but the Chairman is out of the country, so the security man brought it to me.” “They are asking us to put together the sum of N30 million for them. They said they would attack us any time between June and August this year. As I talk to you now, my younger brother residing at Ikosi GRA, had earlier called me this morning to inform me that they also received similar letter.” About 20 copies of the letter were allegedly picked up also from streets in the panic stricken communities. It was gathered that the letter was on an A4 paper. “Our people called the attention of landlords to the document, and the landlords association has made a formal report of the matter to the Police at Lekki Police Station. We have also officially petitioned the Lagos State Commissioner of Police (CP) Fatai Owoseni, to come to our rescued,” he stated. Part of the letter read, “be prepared, be prepared, and be prepared. Our dues must be paid on or before August 2015. Nobody -The Union |

Crime › Lekki Robbery Suspect Sues Police For N1m by lilykach02(op): 9:32pm On Jul 16, 2015 |
One of the four suspects paraded by the police in connection with the March 12, 2015 robbery of the Lekki branch of First City Monument Bank, Ebi Tosan, has sued the police, seeking damages in the sum of N1m. The twenty-year-old, who was arrested on April 5, 2015, claimed that it was unlawful for the police to continue to keep him in detention without admitting him to bail. Tosan, who was paraded by the police along with three others – Duke Odogbo, 38; Lawrence Kingsley, 31; and Ekelemo Kuete, 30 – is therefore seeking a court order directing the police to immediately release him on bail. The suspect’s lawyer, Chief S.W. Baidi, argued that his client’s continued detention without bail was an “infringement and curtailment of the applicant’s constitutional right to personal liberty, freedom of movement and presumption of innocence.” He is seeking a declaration that his arrest, torture and continued detention by the State Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, without bail, was a violation of his human rights, preserved by sections 34(1)(a), 35(1)(4) and Section 41 of the 1999 constitution. In a 26-paragraph affidavit filed in support of the originating summons, one Tamuno Amos, who addressed himself as the suspect’s uncle, said he believed that his nephew’s continued detention by the police was a deliberate act by the police to “extract a confessional statement from him on the alleged offence.” Amos, who said he had not been allowed to see his nephew since his arrest, claimed that “the applicant is suffering on daily basis without access to food, bath and other conveniences and he may die in custody unless granted bail.” The suspect had, on July 9, secured an order of Justice Lateefa Okunnu of a Lagos State High Court in Ikeja, directing the police to produce him in court on July 16. On Thursday, however, when the matter came up, the police did not bring the suspect to court and his originating summons slated for hearing could not be heard. Okunnu, while adjourning hearing of the application till October 22, however ordered that the Lagos State Attorney General should be joined as a respondent. She added that if there was any urgency, the applicant could appear before October 22 before another judge who will be sitting during the court’s annual vacation, which begins next week. The original respondents in the suit are the Lagos State Commissioner of Police and the Officer-in-Charge of SARS, Ikeja, SP Abba Kyari. In the said robbery on Admiralty Way, Lekki, Lagos, a gang of armed robbers, which Tosan and others allegedly belonged to, reportedly stormed FCMB in the afternoon of March 12, wearing military uniform and engaged the police in a gun battle before carting away about N15m from the bank. About five persons, including three policemen and a fish hawker, were reportedly killed while several others sustained injuries during the non-stop shooting said to have lasted about 30 minutes. -Punch |

Anyone who buys it, does so at his or her own risk. My husband got one for me last year after some days the screen damaged, the screen was just dancing skelewu. He took it to bryt office @ isolo, it took them three weeks to get it repaired, they said they had to import the screen from China, after 3weeks we got back. One month after we got it the screen started dancing again took it back to them and they said we should pay 12k. In short the first time he took it there he was number 703 on list of bad screen queue. Funny enough I met another woman with the tablet that was even more frustrated with it than I was. The battery life is crap, the camera quality crap, the only good thing abt the tab is the pouch. |

oluemmy2: Nigeria Immigration Service The Nigerian Immigration Service Spokesman has today made it known to Daily Sun Newspaper, of the approval by the President Mr. Muhammadu Buhari for the NIS Replacement Scheme. The President Mr. Muhammadu Buhari has approved that the Nigerian Immigration Service is to start a Replacement Scheme which he shall appoint committees who would oversee to its success; furthermore he said that the purpose for this, is to ensure that the Unemployment rate in Nigeria is reduced and also to favour the victims/unlucky NIS applicants. The Nigerian Immigration Service Spokesman in this statement urge Nigerians to note that further information, requirements and date for registration for the NIS Replacement will be announced in due time. Also noting that the Replacement shall be more creditable then the recent NIS Recruitment held on CBT base. Oluemmy2 this sounds very shady, cos they don't do registration for replacement. I saw this on one of their Facebook page this morning, didn't pay much attention to it cos of that registration part. Let's all keep our hope alive and wait till July, we are all going to smile. |

The blame should be for his media aides, because I don't think buhari has the time to update his twitter so one of his aides made that mistake. |

Gboliwe: My heart goes out to you and your wife and I pray God consoles you.
When a child is jaundiced, phototherapy is what is needed not blood transfusion. Blood transfusion also doesn't require electricity but phototherapy does. I wonder why any hospital with maternity and paediatric unit will not have a functional phototherapy.
It's only in Nigeria that even the student doctors have this very condescending air around them and are not willing to go one single step above their daily routine even if it's to save a life. It's so pathetic.
The life we live in this country is by God's grace alone.
May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen When a child has jaundice at a moderate level photo therapy is required but when it very high blood transfusion is required immediately because it could cause brain damage in the child, so if the hospital said they were gonna do blood transfusion it simply mean the child's bilirubin was very high. Now my question goes to the op, when u got to the hospital was a test called serum bilirubin carried out on your child to determine the level of his bilirubin? Cos if there was light to carry that test, which last at least two to three hours, then they shouldnt have had problems placing him on photo therapy, now if that test wasn't carried out due to no light, how then did they know it is high, to the extent of a blood transfusion. I feel very sad about your loss and it is high time we speak out and put an end to all this abnormalities in our Nigerian hospitals. |
