bobby256: Lol.Dude dnt get me wrng,d answa is 5100.If u assumed d initial is 0,basically ur sayin ur usin integer cuz d lower limit of an integer is 0 nd upper limit is +infinity.-1000 is real,wit lower limit -infinity nd upper limit +infinity,so if its a real number,u cnt jux assume its 0(I do get d fact dat ur tryin 2 disapprove d oda guy by dat logic bt its also knd of wrng) .So u cnt add -1000 to 40,-real + integer,it won't work.Dnt wana prolong,if ur a mathematician,u'd understand.

hey mathematician who be your teacher? Abeg abeg abeg! Wetin be integer? Find out, then apologise to nairalanders. Integers are whole numbers positive,negative and zero. Hmmmm I hope u have not come in contact with our students oh. Because that will be disasterous. Besides it's a simple puzzle you don't need too much knowledge of mathsto solve it. speedyboi: Going by your logic...you are still wrong. If 'take 1000' means subtraction, then the answer should be 3,100.

0 is the initial value so you can't take away 1000 and still have 0. Instead, you will have (-1000) and that is what will be added to 40 and so on.....

So you see you are still wrong both ways?

Anyway, Me thinks the tricky part is that most people tend to mistake the tens as hundreds thereby getting 6,000.
