Nice to see people enjoying GPRS.

How about the "BlackBerry" experience on your phone?

PUSH EMAIL (for supporting handsets like latest Nokia N series, SE P900, P910, P990 and M600i, Nokia E Series)
Free 14-day trial
Web Resource (for when your phone is down (or no credit)
Works with any phone that has GPRS and a mail client (most handsets do)
N5,000 ANNUAL, not monthly subscription. Activation fee of N2,500 is waivered if signed up before 1st July 2007.
Where? http://freshmail.mobi.

No extra software needed or necessary.

Hi.

Your article on BlackBerry and Seven is informative.

But, Seven AND BlackBerry are foreign.

When are we going to grow Software Nigeria?

Why is foreign good, home bad? Just like Oyibo knows better than Nigerian, therefore hire an Oyibo to do the work of a Nigerian in Nigeria (even if he quietly asks a Nigerian how it is done when he arrives, and pay him 10 times more).

Why am I whinning?

Well, have you heard of a new service called FreshMail? It does ALL that you have mentioned that Seven does, and for less.

It costs N5,000 PER ANNUM for any GRPS enabled handset, plus you can have an OTA sent to your phone, regardless of whether you are in Accra, Lagos, Abijan, Njamena, Nairobi, Cape Town, Nottingham or Dallas.

IT WORKS!!! Push Email, S/MIME, Triple DES and AES and all the nine yards.

Activation is waivered until July 1st, and even that is N2,500 ONE TIME FEE. Remember ONLY N5,000. I did I mention the free 14-day trial. No Obligation!

The Enterprise Version is called ExcaliburMail and offers much more robust features fit for a Corporate Environment.

They are talking to a few reputable GSM retailers to serve as franchises around Africa and Europe.

Just visit http://freshmail.mobi.

Email for the Rest of US!!!
Phones / Re: How To Make Your Cellphone Act Like A Blackberry by LinuxProph(m): 6:58pm On May 28, 2007
Hey there.
Thanks for the document.
However, there is a new kid on the block. And he has learnt from the mistakes of the others.
GMAil is fine, but to use it without messing with your phone settings manually or using the web browser (very expensive), you must download their java midlet which, from my experience even with 29 years of Mobile Tech me behind me, is not the easiest to use.
BlackBerry, for all its wondersm has its own issues (what doesn't?). Any frequent user will tell you it is not a perfect technology, but again, millions use it.

So what is this new kid? FreshMail. It can bve found at http://freshmail.mobi. It is free for 14 days and then costs N5,000 or $40 or £20.
If you arent sure how to put the settings on your phone (Any regular GRPS-enabed phone with an email client is fine), then send an email to ota@freshmail.mobi with your mobile phone in the body of the mail. You must send the mail from your freshmail mailbox otherwise the server will ignore you (how can it know you actually own the mailbox if you don't first log in?).
The subject will be either "contract" or "payg" depending on whether you have a contract line or "Pay-As-You-Go".
Check it out folks.

Or don't you love your phone anymore?
Phones / Re: Can Anybody Help Me With My Treo 650 by LinuxProph(m): 6:57pm On May 28, 2007
I assume your Treo 650 runs Palm OS. If so, I can help (althought I can also help with Windoze apps too).

What exactly do you need:
ChatterMail (for PUSH Email like BlackBerry) {Check out http://freshmail.mobi}
WorldMate Pro (for the latest International currencies including Naira. And Weather updates)
Bible (Orishirishi)
Chess.

Be precise please.
Phones / Freshmail: Email On Your Lovely Smartphone (Who needs BlackBerry?) by LinuxProph(m): 1:04pm On May 24, 2007
Hi out there!

Why remain left out of the Mobile Messaging race simply because you don't have or desire to buy a BlackBerry?

Why not check out http://freshmail.mobi and sign up for a free 14-day trial?

You will get an email in your mailbox telling you what settings to put on your phone.
If however you are averse to tampering with you phone settings, then once you've signed up, log in and send an email to ota@freshmail.mobi with JUST YOUR PHONE NUMBER in the international format +2348051234567 in the body of the mail.

The subject should be "contract" or "payg" depending on whether you have a Contract Line or Pay-As-You-Go.
Why, well some networks have different GPRS settings for either.

Please DO NOT add your password, just your phone number. If you are a Celtel subscriber, you must have a contract line to use GPRS.

Finally, be sure you are already provisioned for GPRS before you send the email.

Settings are available for
[li]
Globacom Nigeria
MTN Nigeria
Celtel Nigeria (Contract lines ONLY)
tiGO Ghana
Areeba Ghana
T-Mobile UK
Orange UK
Vodafone UK
[/li]
[li][/li]
Others will be added soon.

The server will in turn send you an Auto-Configuration SMS called an OTA with all that is needed to connect you to FreshMail.
If you have a recent phone that supports PUSH Email, then you can also get notification of new mail in your mailbox. (Isn't that the big selling point of BlackBerry).

After 14 days, if you like the service, the servers will ask you to pay N5,000 or $40 into a dedicated account. After July 1st, new subscribers will have to also pay an activation fee of N2,500 or $20.

FreshMail is not limited to GSM network or country. Anywhere there is GPRS, you get your mail. Join the dot mobi crowd.

And email is cheaper than SMS.
Check it out!
