you don't expect it not to lead to hatred especially shiv when she knows her mother prefers shiv
Yeah but hatred and murder are two different things. Like I said before... PSYCHO. She doesn't even know Dike's character in-depth and she's in love with him plus that friend of hers is not helping matters.

consider a life without mother's love and tell me how it feels like mam..coupled with her hatred....
I understand and I even liked her a little. But when she tried to kill Shiv, that was taking it too far. I mean feeling unloved is one thing, but planning an assassination is another thing.

An observation here mam..if its true mia's mum has seen her having s.ex with her bf,as in caught her in her house, their mum would have told shiv.remember she doesn't like mia,and moreso shes bent on destroying shiv's relationship with mia by giving shiv negative report bout mia...if its true her mum havr seen her having intimacy, she would have used that as backbone to destroy the relationship....just my own opinion mam......THANKING YOU
I don't think she keeps a list of all the bad things Mia does.

Chapter 6

1 month later.
This was the third time she was throwing up today. She rinsed her mouth with water from the tap and straightened up to find Catherine staring at her.
'What is it?'
'Faridah. You are pregnant.'
'No I'm not. I'm just sick. I'll be fine in a few days.'
'Faridah don't you dare lie to me.'
She stared at the sink, the tiles, the shower curtain, anything but Catherine.
'How long?'
'A month and three weeks.'
'And you didn't see it fit to tell me.'
Catherine sounded hurt and Faridah winced. 'I'm sorry. I was just... afraid that you'll think less of me.'
'Faridah, sure I'm disappointed, but I can never think less of you.'
She sighed. 'So what did your parents say?'
Faridah winced again. 'I actually haven't told them.'
'Faridah, this is big, this is important. You should have told them a long time ago!'
'I was waiting for Ahmed to accept it.'
'Wait, you mean he denied being the father of your child?'
'Yes.'
'That bastard.' Catherine swore.
'How could he?!'
'He's just scared Cath, he'll accept it eventually.'
'Stop making excuses for him! He's a coward that's what he is.'
'Catherine!'
'You have to tell your parents Faridah.'
'I will.'
Catherine wasn't convinced. 'When?'
'On Monday.'
'Faridah.'
'I will, I promise.'
Catherine sighed again but thankfully didn't push it. 'We have Statistics in ten minutes, hurry.'

'Terry please, I'll be forever grateful. Just this once. Please.'
The girl raked a hand through her short hair and glared at Faridah.
'You'll get me in trouble.'
'I won't tell anyone you told me anything. Please.'
'He's at that new bar. The one close to Mama G's restaurant.'
'Thank you.' Faridah smiled and Terry grunted, shooing her away.
'Whatever. Get out of here.'
She smiled and jogged away, flagging down a taxi and stopping at the restaurant before walking to the bar. She noticed people were running away from it and she stopped one of them to question him. 'What's going on over there?'
'Cultists.' Was all he said before pulling away from her grip. She sighed as she kept on walking to the bar. 'Oh Ahmed. What have you done now?'
The bar was completely empty by the time she got there, but she could hear commotion at the back.
She stopped at the sight in front of her. A girl was on the floor on the ground while the boys beat her with a belt and Ahmed stood by, sipping a drink with a smile on his face.

She searched the faces quickly and was relieved when James wasn't one of them.
'Ahmed!'
He turned to look at her and raised his glass in her direction. She walked over and stood in front of him, crossing her arms over her chest.
'What are you doing Ahmed?'
'Teaching that fool a lesson.'
'Ahmed please stop this, let her go. This isn't you.'
'And you know who I am? What the heck made you assume you know who I am? You don't know me Faridah. You've only seen the parts of me I allowed you to see. This,' He pointed to the boys beating the girl. 'Is who I am. Serves her right for insulting me anyway.'
Faridah shook her head and tried to pull the boys away from the girl. They pushed her and she fell to the floor.
'Stay out of it Faridah. This is not your concern. Go home.'
She lay on the floor, clutching her middle. She'd landed on her stomach.
Then men barged through the door dressed in police uniforms. They arrested the boys quickly and put the bruised and battered girl on a stretcher. Faridah watched Ahmed laugh as the girl groaned in pain and realized James was right. Ahmed wasn't the good guy here.
She was going to tell her parents she was pregnant.

Chapter 5

Faridah scowled as she stared at herself in the full length mirror that occupied a section of the wall in their small room. 'Catherine, do you think I'm getting fat?'
The said girl poked her head out of the bathroom door and gave her a once over. 'You're still pretty.'
'That's not what I'm asking Catherine. I'm getting chubby and I don't like it.'
'Well maybe if you exercised more and didn't spend all your free time sleeping, you'd lose a couple of pounds.'
'I don't spend all my free time sleeping.'
'You do. I even said I was going to ask you if you've been bitten by a tse-tse fly.'
'I've not been bitten by anything. It's probably just the stress of school finally getting to me.'
'Are you sure?'
'Of course. What else could it be?'
Faridah was suddenly glad Catherine was in the bathroom. Ziba had told her on countless occasions she was a very bad liar because she would turn red whenever she wasn't saying the truth. And with her complexion it was very visible. 'Ok. If you say so.' Catherine's voice was muffled and almost incomprehensible because she was brushing her teeth.
There was a knock on the door and Faridah hurried to put on a shirt.

The guy she saw through the peephole made her pause before opening the door. 'James?'
'Hi cuz,' he gave her a bright smile that was supposed to be reassuring but just made him look constipated.
'I was just passing by, and I decided to check up on my favorite cousin.'
'I thought Aminatu was your favorite.'
'She's second place. Can I come in?'
She gave him an unimpressed look. 'Who did you offend this time?'
'Oh come on please Faridah, three guys are after me.'
She sighed and let him in and he locked the door quickly and bolted it.
The shower turned on in the bathroom and they stood there for a few moments, awkwardly staring at each other before James broke the silence.
'So, I saw the whole drama Ahmed acted the other day, warning the whole student population off you.'
'I know right, I was so confused. But maybe he's finally realized we're meant for each other, and he'll take responsibility for the baby.'
James snorted. 'Don't get your hopes up. Besides, you should be glad he wants nothing to do with the child.'
'And why is that?' Faridah sounded astonished. 'He's the father.'
'Can't you imagine what it would be like for a child to grow up with Ahmed as its father?'
'His or her father, James. Not its. It is for animals.'
'Stop giving me English lessons Faridah. Him or her or it, Ahmed will not be a good father to any child.'
'You don't know that. You always assume the worst of him...'
'Because I know him! I introduced you to him remember? And I regret it every single day.'
She pursed her lips at his outburst and didn't say anything.

'Look Faridah,' He sounded frustrated.
'Do you know why Kamal chose Ahmed to lead?'
'No.'
'We were given tasks. Ahmed was the only one who was able to complete them. Seven students, murdered in their sleep.'
She looked away. 'You've killed people too.'
'Yes, I'm not going to deny it. But I at least have an excuse, I do what I do under orders. As for Ahmed, he gives the orders.'
'People can change.'
He chuckled. 'The sooner you realize Faridah, that Ahmed is not the good guy here, the better for you.'
Their heads swiveled to the sound of the bathroom door opening. Catherine came out with a towel around her chest. Then she saw James and squeaked, running back into the bathroom.
He bit his lip to suppress laughter. Then he pulled Faridah into his chest and pressed a kiss to the top of her head, holding her tight. She clung to him just as tightly.
'I may not say this a lot Ridah, but I do love you. And it would kill me to see you hurt. Ahmed is an inferno. And when you play with fire, getting burnt is inevitable.'
