'I'll contest against Seyi Makinde in 2023 and I'll win', Kemi Olunloyo boasts (Video)


The controversial medical and investigative journalist, Dr. Kemi Omololu Olunlonyo has posted a video on YouTube where she boasted of winning incumbent Governor of Oyo, Seyi Makinde if she contest against him come 2023. Although, the broadcast was meant to educate the general public about the coronavirus pandemic in the country and in the world.

In the video, the Kemi Olunloyo who is daughter to former governor of the state, Omololu Olunloyo spoke at length about how some Nigerians who don’t even know her, perceive her as ‘one mad crazy woman’ because their friends told them so. She said this is a reason she feels Nigeria itself has been wrink, as people do not find out things about others, but they listen to what other people say tothem and then they make perceptions up, of who they are.



She also brought up the issue of Oyo state and about how people are abusing her.

In the video, she said: ” Oyo state is in a pandemic mode now, and i see people abusing me. Telling me Seyi is the best governor you have, Seyi may have been a good governor starting up but with this pandemic, I’m not saying he’s a bad governor, he’s really handling it very poorly. I feel like, when Seyi contracted the virus and recovered, he shouldn’t have been at the top of that task force. He should have appointed somebody at the top of thw task force, and preferably a medical doctor. That’s where UCH is, somebody could have been there. Even though UCH’s medical director also contracted it, there has to be one doctor in that whole Ibadan. Okay, if Seyi had put me at the top of the task force, i wouldn’t have taken it. It belongs to a medical doctor who has a lot of experience in microbiology. Did you know that ? But he still made himself the head of the task force. “

She went on and on, talking about how Africa would soon experience the full force of the virus like the USA, Italy, and Brazil, alleging that South Africa’s health care system has already collapsed as it holds the record for the most coronavirus cases in the continent.



It was towards the end of the video, that she made a bold statement to those people who sit at home and just abuse her that she could become the next governor of Oyo state if she decides to run in 2023.



” Some of you sitting down there and abusing me, do you know that i ran in 2023, against Seyi Makinde for governor of Oyo state, I’ll probably win. You know why, because I’m popular, and what would win me that governorship seat is the popular vote. And then I’m a woman, almost every woman would vote for me, and then I’d probably be the first female governor in Nigeria ‘elected’. “

How Kehinde Ayoola drove himself to the hospital and advised to take bed rest — Makinde

The governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde has narrated events that led to the death of the state’s commissioner for environment, Kehinde Ayoola.

According to the statement by the state government on Thursday, while announcing the passing of the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Honourable Kehinde Ayoola, he drove himself to the hospital.



The statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, indicated that Hon. Ayoola had two weeks ago driven himself to Frontida Critical Care Hospital, Iyaganku, Ibadan for medical checks, after which he was advised to proceed on bed rest.

The statement indicated that Governor Makinde received the news of the passing of the Commissioner with “shock and deep sadness.”

The governor said: “I received with deep sadness, the news of the death of my dear friend and colleague, Rt. Honourable Kehinde Ayoola. Up until his death this morning, he served as the Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources in Oyo State.



“I met late Rt. Honourable Ayoola in 2002, when we worked together as members of the Fortune Group for the election of Senator Rasheed Ladoja. He also served as the Director-General for my 2015 campaign and the Deputy Director-General for my 2019 campaign.

COVID-19: Nigerian doctors decry exposure of colleagues to danger as govt fail to provide protective equipments

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) South West Caucus has decried lack of protective equipment which is exposing the medical workers to danger of contracting COVID-19 disease.



The medical caucus made this known through a press release made available to journalists in Ibadan on Monday and signed by the Caucus leader, Dr. Sebastine Oiwoh and his deputy, Dr. Taofeek Sanni.



Expressing their displeasure, the doctors revealed the increasing reports of information hoarding and denial of symptoms by patients and their relatives especially as regards their traveling history and other important symptoms of COVID-19 thereby increasing the risk of exposure of their members to the disease.



The statement reads: "we commends the efforts of our members, other healthcare workers, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the Governments at various levels and the good people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for the indomitable effort and zeal at combating the global surge and pandemic of COVID-19.



"This unified effort and cooperation saw us successfully to defeat Ebola Virus Disease epidemic in 2014 and it is our hope and prayer that it shall pay off this time around too.



"The Association is closely monitoring happenings in the country especially our tertiary health institutions in relation to the COVID -19 pandemic spread and management.



"According to NCDC report, out of the total numbers of confirmed cases and deaths in the country as at 12th April, 2020, the region accounts for 67.5% of the cases (218 out of 323) and 50% of death (5 out of 10). No state in the region is presently spared of the virus.



"We are aware of the increasing reports of information hoarding and denial of symptoms by patients and their relatives especially as regards their traveling history and other important symptoms of COVID-19 thereby increasing the risk of exposure of our members to the disease.



"Worsening the situation is the continuous inadequate provision of necessary Personal Protective Equipment by Hospital Management. With reports that some hospitals don't readily make these available, others claimed unavailability due to poor funding by the Government to the Teaching Hospitals in the fight against this scourge. These acts could further threaten the wellbeing of our members who are in the frontline of attending to all forms of patients who present at the Hospitals.



"The Association noted with concern the increasing numbers of our members who are now in quarantine {currently about nineteen (19) members} due to exposure to COVID-19 infection in various tertiary health institutions in this region. This we believe was avoidable if the needful has been done by those authorities, patients and relations concerned.



"We are surprised with the various form of intimidation and harassment of our members in the line of duty by some overzealous law enforcement agents during this lockdown period despite being exempted by the President Federal Republic of Nigeria in line with the need to continue the provision of essential services during the sit at home period especially in Lagos and of recent Osun state.



"Members of the public will continue to need various medical services aside COVID-19 treatment during this period in both public and private hospitals.



"The Association commends and appreciates the efforts of our leaders in various local chapters in ensuring the safety of our members and adequate supply of needed Personal Protective Equipment during this trying period. It is only safe to say our safety and wellbeing is most paramount in the care of our patients as enshrined in our Physician's pledge.



"The Association is also optimistic of the various efforts being made by NMA and NARD in ensuring the fulfillment of plans by the Governments to increase considerably the present meager monthly five thousand naira hazard allowance being paid our members and all other healthcare workers in the face of various infectious diseases like COVID-19, Lassa fever etc.



"And we must remind us that Lassa fever has killed more people in 2020 than COVID-19 has hence emphasizing the difficult terrain our members have to work daily to keep the society safe.

The Association shall continue to monitor events as they unfold and shall not hesitate to take the needed necessary action when due.



"We want to reassure our members all over our tertiary health facilities of our commitment to their welfare especially during this turbulent period and we appeal to us all to remain calm even in the presence of these numerous provocations", the statement reads.

COVID-19: AWDROP tasks FG to provide cleaner water for rural dwellers to curb pandemic


The National President, Association of Waterwell Drilling Rig Owners and Practitioners (AWDROP), Engr Michael Ale has advocated for more drilling of borehole and wells especially for the dwellers in rural area across Nigeria who are vulnerable to novel COVID-19 pandemic, to curb spread of the disease among them.



According to him, many rural and sub-urban areas are serviced either with the water from the stream or wells that are contaminated and sometime with on-site off grid; mechanical generator powered or hand pumps.



He said: "the main instruction from the WHO is to wash hands in the running taps without touching taps for hygiene purpose. But, where is the running taps especially in the village where many children on daily bases visit a hand Pump facility and take a stroke by touching the handle before water can be made available for their house chores.



"Stay at home order is effective in developed countries because their water infrastructures are piped, which is not same in developing country like Nigeria. Many houses in the rural area are running out of water. Who is their mouth piece? They can’t aired their view to the government, that’s why you cannot get any related views on scarcity or non availability of water during this pandemic", he said.



Engr. Ale who is a consultant on water to many international organisations across the globe explained that government at all levels should as a matter of urgency embark on massive drilling of borehole which is the quick way to solving the novel pandemic, being one major preventive campaign strategy against the spread of COVID-19.



"The Federal Government in some of its ongoing awareness campaigns and jingles have been advocating and advising people to always wash their hands in running water, but the question is how many of such facility is on ground? "



"Even some of the advocates and political office holders who had been at the forefront of this campaign are also seen washing their hands in water basin contrary to what they had been preaching to their followers?" This is not right, it exposes the weakness of the leaders in providing adequate infrastructure to the common man".



The AWDROP National President however said the association is ready to positively and effectively collaborate with relevant government, political office holders and Non Governmental Organizations (NGO) to ensure water for all emphasising the importance of water in human lives especially at this time that people are scouting for life, forgetting that Water is Life.



Engr. Ale, a development practitioner also added that potable and affordable water remains one of the measures taking across the world to also curb community spread of COVID -19 which is now the next phase of the spread of the virus, and this can only be subdued with adequate provision of water saying but the strategy must be adaptive.



"On-site sanitation and environmental hygiene is being advocated by Water Sanitation and Hygeine experts around the world, especially in the rural area because of the need to get water from the public Boreholes".



Ale therefore advised Federal Government to provide water in schools, hospitals, markets, motor parks, religious centers and other places identified as public places.



According to him, this gesture will surely help in post covid-19 sustenance, reiterating that the government have the capacity to do more with less by subsidizing borehole cost for Nigerians through their Agro-Rural Water Supply Support Initiative (ARUWASSI).



Ale, the National Coordinator of the project which is a collaborative initiative between AWDROP and FMARD expressed satisfaction on the current capacity of the association to provide such assistance through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), as more Rigs had been procured to Manage the current situation.

COVID-19: US seeking for doctors, nurses around the world for employment as Coronavirus cases rise in country above Italy, China


The United States has asked medical professionals around the world who want to work in America to reach out for visa appointment.

On Thursday, the United States overtook China as the country with the highest number of novel coronavirus patients anywhere in the world.

*To further tame the spread of the virus and treatment of those infected, the US is calling out to medical professionals to apply to work in the North American country.*

*“We encourage medical professionals seeking to work in the United States on a work or exchange visitor, particularly those working to treat or mitigate the effects of COVID-19, to reach out to the nearest embassy or consulate to request a visa appointment,” the statement read.*

The US is also extending visas for medical professionals in the country.

“For those foreign medical professionals already in the United States: J-1 Alien Physicians (medical residents) may consult with their program sponsor, ECFMG, to extend their programs in the United States.

“Generally, a J-1 program for a foreign medical resident can be extended one year at a time for up to seven years.

Note that the expiration date on a U.S. visa does not determine how long one can be in the United States.”

According to various sources, 77 percent of black doctors in the US are Nigerians.
