Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo declared free and compulsory education from Nursery school to Junior Secondary School (JSS 3) in public schools in the state.

On Thursday, Sept. 21, he made this known while visiting Premier Primary School in Obosi, Idemili North Council Area.

He went on to say that children of school age would no longer be denied access to high-quality education, and that education from nursery to JSS would be free and mandatory in the state.

The free and compulsory education program includes not just tuition fees, but also various dues and levies that can amount to thousands of Naira per term for students.

According to him, the new policy is written in the constitution, which states that the state shall provide free basic education wherever possible.

The governor also announced that tuition prices for senior secondary school students (SSS 1 – 3) had been cut from 8,000 to 12,000 Naira per term, depending on the school, to a flat amount of 5,000 Naira for all, with no further tax, levy, or dues attached. He explained that the charge would be collected by the schools and not paid to the government.

Dauda Biu, the corps marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has stated that all FRSC Officials have been banned from entering the vehicles of offenders upon seizure.

Biu made the clarification while denouncing a “wrongly couched” document now making the rounds, according to FRSC spokesperson Bisi Kazeem. He added that the memo in question is about a directive sent to commanding officers that called for an end to the practice of placing patrol operatives in offenders’ vehicles during impoundment.

The initial mandate, according to the spokeswoman, was issued in a memo dated September 12, 2023, with the reference FRSC/HQ/OPS/94/VOLXVI/094.

He stated that the memo was titled: ‘Immediate ban on the putting of personnel in offenders vehicles to escort for Impoundment’.

A newborn baby boy rescued alive three days after his mother abandoned him in a toilet pit, 20 year old mum arrested in Otuocha, Anambra East Local Government Area, Anambra State.

According to the Anambra Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Affairs, the infant was born on Sunday, August 27, 2023, to Nwaedoka Chidimma, 20, of Izzi, Ebonyi state, and was dumped in the toilet.

Esther Omesi, a farmer and Chidimma’s friend, stated the suspect sought to stay at her house for a few days due to a farming work.

Omesi described how the suspect began acting suspiciously on Sunday after she informed her that she was experiencing stomach pains and went to the pit to relieve herself. Omesi stated Chidimma took her time and emerged from the toilet dripping in blood.

Omsesi stated that she summoned a nurse, who examined Chidimma and reported that the infant had died. She stated that she believed Chidinma had a stillbirth and encouraged her to return home to inform her parents of the situation.

Mrs. Omesi claimed that they heard a baby cry on Tuesday morning, August 29, and used a ladder to rapidly rescue the newborn before notifying the appropriate authorities.

When the incidence was brought to the attention of the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Hon Ify Obinabo, she promptly intervened by transporting the newborn to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital Amaku Awka for treatment and arresting the perpetrator.

On Friday, August 12, at least one police officer from the Iponri Divisional Police Station was slain after being ambushed by motorcycle riders in the Ijora Olopa region of Lagos State.

According to eyewitness, the cops had gone to the area to enforce the Lagos State government’s restriction order on Okada riders when they were attacked by hoodlums armed with hazardous weapons such as cutlasses, clubs, and charms. The perpetrators attacked the police officers and attempted to burn their operation van, but they were stopped by the police response team of Rapid Response Squad and other police officers from the divisions deployed to the scene to avoid further breakdown of law and order in the region.

According to Lagos State Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the event, one of the two police officers critically hurt in the attack later died.

“The policemen went to the area to enforce the Lagos State government’s Okada restriction order when they were attacked.” Some of the riders have been apprehended, and the scene has been returned to normalcy,” he stated.

A bodybuilder in Bosnia live-streamed his ex-wife’s execution on Instagram before embarking on a shooting spree, killing two others and then himself.

On Friday morning, August 11, the man, named as Nermin Sulejmanovic, posted an exceedingly distressing video on Instagram, assuring viewers that they will witness a murder live.

The footage then shows him drawing a rifle and firing a round into a woman’s forehead. In the footage, the couple’s baby daughter can also be heard wailing.

Sulejmanovic, 35, admitted to leaving the infant alive.

‘I warned everyone that it would lead to this,’ the alleged murderer subsequently stated. She has been keeping my child hidden for eight days.

‘I’m getting ready to load my weapon and continue on.’


Sulejmanovic worked as a fitness coach but was also a gang member with many convictions for acts of violence, fighting, and drug trafficking, according to local media.

As police began looking for him in the aftermath of the broadcasted murder, the suspect posted another video on Instagram, claiming to have shot at least two other people while fleeing.

According to a police statement issued in the northeastern Bosnian town of Tuzla, three other people were injured before the killer ‘committed suicide after being identified and before being captured’.

Police did not immediately provide any additional information, but they did say that anyone who left supporting messages when clicking on the man’s Instagram posts on Friday will be questioned and potentially face legal consequences.

‘I have no words to explain what happened today in Gradacac,’ stated Bosnian Federation Prime Minister Nermin Niksic.

‘In the end, the murderer took his own life, but no one can bring the victims’ lives back.’

Authorities did not immediately provide any additional information or suspected motives for the shootings.
