wristbangle:I beg to differ. "Intellectual finishing" adds no positive value to the Power Sector discussion. The article states (and I quote verbatim) "The Federal Government on Thursday in Abuja signed a Front-Runner Solar Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) worth 1.75 billion dollars with 14 companies to build 1125 Megawatts(MW) capacity of renewable power in the country." The worth of a PPA does not directly translate to the cost of the Power Plant (or Plants in this case). The worth is typically the value of the revenue accruable from the tariff over the life of the PPA (typically 20 years). The article is misleading in my opinion; as is most information in the public space on the Power Sector. The stated amount cannot be the value of the PPAs signed, and I am equally doubtful that it represents the full development cost of the Solar Plants (CAPEX, etc.). |
BizBloke:Thanks! Have the headphones been delivered? |
BizBloke:Appreciate the update BizBloke. Hoping for an earlier than quoted delivery for all the orders. |
BizBloke:Appreciate the update! |
Positive news. I do reckon however that the project will need substantial government incentives if it's to be financed. |

admax:Very informed post. Unfortunately, sentiment will likely prevail over reason as it usually does in our clime. Most people commenting on this topic have no idea how long it took Azura to conclude its development phase of its GFPP. The politicisation of the tariff increase by the Senate sends a very bad signal to investors. Azura is the first project-financed IPP to close financially in Nigeria. The project took far too many years to conclude due to the difficulty of developing bankable financed projects in Nigeria. Truth is there are very few of such projects being developed that will close out financially in the next 3 years with the current climate. Uncertainty in the Tariff regime will kill investor confidence. It costs approximately $1.8mn/MW to develop a gas power plant and $2.73mn/MW to develop a coal power plant. When you consider that the developer will fund the construction of the gas pipeline and transmission lines (to closest substations), the above cost increases considerably. Simply put, it costs MONEY to develop power projects. Without a bankable tariff, there will NEVER be any real growth in the power sector. There's a lot truth people just don't want to hear and this is just a taste of it. |
Hilarious sensationalist drivel. Of course no one bothered to ask the valiant Power Sector probe knight what capacity the initial 18 turbines would generate as against the 9. Comparing the Capital cost of developing a power plant in Nigeria with that of Brazil without taking into consideration the associated infrastructure cost is plain manipulative. I'm pretty sure that Mr Elumelu knows that greenfield IPPs currently have to construct unavailable infrastructure not limited to transmission lines, gas pipelines, roads etc. More shocking I think is the bandwagon mentality displayed on this topic. I do assure all reading this little piece that if the reasoning on this thread is representative of the mindset of the average Nigerian, stable power WILL NEVER be assured in this generation. You can hem and haw all you want, but fact is fact. |
@siena I have been using Total Quartz 9000 (5w- 40) for my 2000 A4 B5 1.8l non-turbo. I believe that's what the manual specifies. You saying I should be using a different oil type? |
