Players of Rivers United FC this morning stormed the Rivers State Government House to press home demands for the payment of sign on fees for the 2014/15 football season.

It was gathered that these monies were owed by the previous administration, before the merger, and during the days of Sharks and Dolphins FC.

Governor Nyesom Wike addressed the players personally and promised to look into their demands.
The players thanked the Governor and apologized seriously for their actions of this morning.

The officials of Lagos Police Command have arrested a disabled beggar operating in Egbeda area of Lagos.
The suspect, Godwin Fawehinmi was caught in possession of a gun and upon investigation, police recovered more guns from his house at Alhaji Sadiku street in Akowonjo area of Egbeda.

Fawehinmi who is yet to tell police what he was doing with the weapons, has been transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) office for further investigation.

The suspect, who is crippled, it was learnt, usually begs for alms on the street on a daily basis. However, it came to many as a surprise when a gun was recovered from him.

A source said some residents of the area where the man usually sits to beg for alms, noticed different people that visit him on a daily basis, look suspicious. That was why they informed the police.



A police source said Fawehinmi might be keeping the gun for some armed robbers and pretended to be a beggar.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Chike Oti, confirmed Fawehinmi’s arrest. He said:

“The operatives of the command went after him, conducted search in his house and premises and recovered different types of guns, axes, machetes and other weapons. Investigation is still on-going.”

The President’s and the Vice-President’s pay is low, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo said yesterday. He criticised the private sector for not respecting the national minimum wage law, which puts the lowest pay at N18,000.

Speaking at the end-of-year seminar of the State House Press Corps at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Prof. Osinbajo said he earns about N1.5m as Vice-President; President Buhari earns about N1.75 million.

To him, the pay is not commensurate with the offices they occupy. The vice president also expressed misgivings about the remuneration of journalists and lawyers, saying journalists’ case is unique because many media owners make big revenue but simply refuse to pay good wages.

He recalled his brief encounters working with media houses as legal adviser and how in all the months he worked he was not paid despite the irregular hours he put in.

Osinbajo spoke of entry into journalism as not rigorously regulated or enforced by professional bodies because untrained persons are allowed in.

He added: ”I realised first of all that this (journalism) is not a profession from which one could make a decent living in the first place unless you find a really good way of doing so.

”But more importantly for me is that you are just on your own. Journalism as a profession is so wide open.

”There are a few reasons in my view why remuneration is poor. ”The first is that it is just simply cheating. There are owners of media that are just cheats. They just want to get something from nothing and that is not uncommon, it is a general malaise, it is not necessarily restricted to the media.

”It is also the same in the legal profession. There many lawyers if they tell you what they earn, you will certainly not want to be a lawyer.

”The private sector does not respect the minimum wage. Even if a minimum wage is set nationally, it is not necessarily respected by the private sector and this is something that should be factored in to the status of a company and whether a company is even complying with the requirements.”

The Vice-President urged journalists to brighten their prospects and future by always seeking ways of improving themselves and getting better job opportunities with attendant improved income.

Veteran singer, Yinka Ayefele, who marked 20 years of the accident that left his crippled few days ago, in an interview with Sunday Scoop, recounted all that happened after the accident.



According to him, one of the highlights of the incident was him getting an erection.

"After the accident, everyone jubilated when I had an erection one afternoon. I was wondering why they were rejoicing and they told me the doctors said I would not be able to have an erection again. They had reached the conclusion without my knowledge.”


On his girlfriend then who later became his wife, Ayefele said

“She didn’t leave me when I was hospitalised, so why would she leave me afterwards? When things were bad, she was with me all through. We got married after the accident and we are blessed with four boys.”

He continued;
“I can still remember my response to a journalist who wanted to be sure I could impregnate a woman. I told him to bring his sister if he wanted a confirmation. It used to be embarrassing when people questioned my s*xual ability.Even if I am unable to make love to a woman, should that make them happy? Even if my wife and I opted for IVF, is it something they should gloat about?”


Recalling the circumstances that confined him to the wheelchair, he said, “I was on my way to Abeokuta, but I lost control of the car because it rained heavily that day. The car fell into a deep pit. I was taken to a nearby hospital, but they couldn’t handle my case because I was vomiting blood. I was taken to another hospital where it was discovered that I had a spinal cord injury.

I was then transferred to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, where I stayed for almost a year before I was discharged. Much later, I raised funds and travelled to the United Kingdom, for specialised treatment.”


“I am still feeling pains; I am always in pain every day. Pills cannot even stop the pains and I am conscious of what I take in, but I thank God I have been able to cope. I give thanks to God for sparing my life.“I personally thought I would die, but my parents and loved ones encouraged me to stay alive. They felt bad, but they didn’t want to lose me. My father was alive then, but I lost him two years ago. He was so supportive all through the trying times” he said.

Close to two months after he was allegedly assaulted by a fellow colleague, Burna Boy, Mr. 2kay made his first public appearance in Lagos at the recently held Future Awards. In a chat with Saturday Beats, the singer said that he was happy to be out again after his close shave with death. In an exclusive chat with Saturday Beats, the singer, for the first time, narrated what happened that night.

He said, “When they were beating me, I thought I was going to die on that day. When you see a man with a gun, anything can happen. They were debating on whether to shoot me or not. They were debating over my life if I should live or not. It was one of them that said he was my fan and he loved my song. That person did not touch me; he only tied me to a chair and was calming me down. It was God that saved my life because when I first saw them, the first thing I shouted was Jesus and I believe that was what saved me.”

He alleged that Burna Boy had called him to apologise but he just wants the singer to be truthful and state his part in the case. He expressed surprise that the case was in court without either Burna Boy or his manager’s name in the suit.

Mr. 2kay said, “What I said was that Burna Boy has called me and he apologised without admitting that he was involved in the assault on me. He told me that he had no hand in it. I had to reply him that I never fingered him; it was his manager and the boys that fingered him. All we need is honesty and the truth. He cannot apologise to me over a matter that he has no hand in.

“At the end of the day, we all want this issue to go with this year and start the New Year on a fresh note. I was supposed to release my album this year but we could not do so because of this whole issue.

“Next year should be a very busy one for me and I don’t want to spend my time at a police station or pay numerous visits to the commissioner of police. I just want to have peace. Burna Boy is still my brother any day and I have forgiven him but what we want is the truth. If he calls me and opens up, we have said that we would settle it out of court. It is possible for us to have a song together in the future if he wants it because he is my brother. I swear with my life that I hold nothing against Burna Boy,” he added.

The singer reiterated the fact that while he was being assaulted, he was robbed of a wristwatch which he claimed cost about N9m. He added that he didn’t care if anyone believed he owned such an expensive piece of jewellery.

“Everything they stole from me was more than N9m; my wristwatch alone cost N9m. Everything stolen from me was over N10m. I wear an Audemars Piguet watch. I am a brand ambassador for an American alcoholic brand, Christian Brothers. For me to get an endorsement with the brand, you should know that money was involved. Also, my song, ‘Count it all Joy’, had the highest number of downloads from MTN, not just in Nigeria but MTN as a whole. I go for events, I have godfathers and some footballers are my friends as well.

“I have people that could bless me with anything they want to gift me. I am from Rivers State and I do a lot of gigs; the music pays me a lot. I get royalties from my records playing in the UK as well. My record label is not broke so I wonder why people think I cannot afford a wristwatch worth N9m. I have a father who is my boss and he can afford to buy anything for me. It is my choice to spend as much as N9m on a watch and I owe no one any explanation. It is an investment and I can take that watch to the bank.”

There was a mild drama at the Aguata prisons in Anambra State when a defendant, Tobias Mbaekwe who was granted bail on health condition, declined to leave the prison environment despite family’s readiness to meets the bail conditions.
Mbaekwe, who hailed from Ozubulu in Ekwusigo local government area of the state, was among the three juveniles who were incarcerated at medium security prisons, Aguata and ten others freed by the State Chief Judge, Justice Peter Umeadi on health ground and delay in prosecution.

The defendant collapsed on the floor shortly after the ruling that he would be granted bail, begging the Chief Judge to allow him stay back in the prison, where he said his life will be more secured.

He informed the court that his relatives, numbering thirty one, have ganged up to kill him.

“They said they will kill me if I come back home. They grabbed my father’s land after killing him in 1980. They latter kidnapped me and threatened to kill me and that is why they abandoned me here since 2012,” he cried out.

Justice Umeadi however directed the Aguata Prisons Welfare Officer to take the defendant to the DPP of Ozubulu Police station who would in turn accompany him home.

He also directed that the defendant be visited every three months, adding that he could be re-arraigned by the DPO anytime they wanted to prosecute him.

The Chief Judge, during his visit to the prison for jail delivery service, also discharged a 34-year-old Obinna Nwankwo Udemgba who was incarcerated since 2013 but has not been prosecuted by the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Ruling on his case, Justice Umeadi discharged the defendant on the ground of unnecessary delay by DPP to commence trial on the matter brought against the defendant as well as the attitude of the defendant’s relatives who abandoned him in the prison.

Other defendants granted bails during the prison decongestion visit were Japhet Onwuchekwe, Toochukwu Onyebuchi, Sunday Ulebe (Ebonyi), Amandi Dim, Chinonso Onyejeckwe and others.

Justice Umeadi said the exercise was targeted at bringing the court closer to the inmates, describing it as part of the corporate social responsibility of the third arm of the government.

He commended the security agencies, DPP, Prison officers, Red Cross society, the judiciary and others for their efforts in ensuring that the exercise was a success.

On his part, the Assistant Controller of Aguata prisons, Mr. Ubaenyi Patrick described the visit as relief to the prison authorities and family of the inmates, revealing that the 80 capacity prison facility houses 191 inmates, out of which, 161 were awaiting trial.

A 43 year old man identified as Abdullahi Wahab, was arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing 385 bundles of lace materials, valued at N12.5m in the ldumota area of Lagos.

Wahab, a commercial driver, was arraigned on three counts bordering on conspiracy and theft.

It was learnt that Wahab was to transport the materials to Idumota, but he diverted them.

The police prosecutor, Inspector N. Peter, said Wahab and others at large committed the offence on July 15, 2017.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

The charges read in part, “That you, Abdullahi Wahab, and others now at large, on July 15, 2017, at about 1.20pm on John Street, ldumota, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did steal 300 bundles of lace materials, valued at N10,865,000, property of one Alhaja Joko Ojora.

“That you, and others at large, in the aforementioned magisterial district, did steal 85 bundles of lace materials valued at N1,785,000, property of one Alhaja Bimbo lmran.”

Wahab pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs. Y.O. Aje-Afunwa, granted the accused bail in the sum of N900,000 and adjourned the case till February 28, 2018.

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory sitting in Lugbe, Abuja on Tuesday sentenced one Friday Elijah to 6 years imprisonment for incest with his 13-year-old daughter..

Elijah, a 35-year-old indigene of Cross River State, also inflicted physical injury on her with a 7-UP bottle after the girl exposed him to his relatives.

He was arrested in July 2015 by operatives of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) after he had carnal knowledge of her.
The offences which are punishable under sections 2 (1) and 25 of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act 2015 were committed in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.

A statement signed and issued to journalists in Abuja by NAPTIP’s Head, Press and Public Relations, Josiah Emerole, said “On arraignment, Friday Elijah pleaded not guilty to the two count charges of incest and inflicting physical injury to a person. The case therefore, went through full trial.”

On Wednesday, 8th November, 2017, the presiding Judge, Hon. Justice Angela. Otaluka found him guilty of the counts in Charge No. CR/103/16 and deferred the sentence to Tuesday 12th December 2017.

However, on resumption of sitting this Tuesday, Hon. Justice Otaluka sentenced him to 6 years imprisonment for incest and inflicting physical injury on his daughter.
After listening to the testimonies of the Defendant’s wife and his cousin as to his character, and in accordance with the provisions of Section 310 and 311 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015 and the plea of allocotus (Leniency) from the Defence Counsel, he was sentenced to 2 years imprisonment without an option of fine for Count 1 (Inflicting Physical Injury on a Person) and 4 years Imprisonment without an option of fine for Count 2 (Incest). Both sentences are to run concurrently.

Reacting to the judgment, the Director-General, Dame Julie Okah-Donli commended the presiding Judge for courage.

She stated that violence against persons was old fashioned and that those who still get involved in such an act must be dealt with in accordance with the law.

Two senior secondary school students of the Alex Secondary School, Idua in Eket LGA of Akwa Ibom drowned in the Qua Iboe River in Akwa Ibom State.

According to reports, the students identified as Aniekan Harry and Uche Okoli had sneaked out of their school on Thursday December 7th with six other students to go play football.

It was gathred that after playing football, the students were on their way back to school when their deceased colleagues told them they would like to take a deep in the River.
Owen Oscar, one of their colleagues who also sneaked out of school, said they advised the victims not to go swimming but they refused and went ahead to swim.
Getting to the River, Harry slipped into it while Okoli jumped into it.
Trouble started when the students could not find Okoli and Harry in the River.

The marine police officers around the River were alerted and a search for the victims began.
After two days of searching, their bodeis were discovered yesterday, Saturday December 9th.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Akwa Ibom Police command, DSP Bala Elkana, said the remains of the victims has been deposited at the state mortuary.

A Nigerian guy and forum user, Duchez, took to media to share how and why his friend’s girlfriend rejected a marriage proposal.

He wrote;

My friend just shared his story with me. I have advised him but I need your thoughts.
He met a lady around March this year and they became friends. He is an Accountant and works with a Federal Government Agency in Abuja. Along the line he asked her out and she insisted he finishes his ICAN before they can start dating.

Long story short, she later accepted to date him. Probably because he passed all but one of the exams in the Professional stage of ICAN. He recently invested some huge sum of money into a biz deal. He told me it was actually all of his savings and he would become a multi millionaire if the deal works out.

He decided to test this lady to find out if she will stick with him if the going ever gets tough (as a result of our insistence that the lady isn’t really into him). And so he told her that the deal he was working on had failed and that he has become broke. He said he will like to marry her and try to sustain themselves on his current salary of about 180k pending when things become better but she replied that she can’t marry someone who is earning 180k monthly.

She feels it would make her drop from her standard of living as she wants to live inside the city of Abuja and not in the outskirts like Karu or Kubwa. Mind you, her parents live in one of these places and the guy is not even thinking of living in anywhere beyond these places like Nyanya/Mararaba.

This guy loves this girl so bad and is a very hardworking guy. He is hoping to get promoted when he completes his ICAN and is even looking at getting a better job in a bigger Government Agency or a Multinational company. He is so distraught at what the lady said. We have advised him to forget about her and move on, but he is considering opening up to the lady that what he said about the deal was just a test in the hope to make her re-consider him.

Please, were we wrong with our advice? Meanwhile, this guy’s ex loves him like there is no tomorrow and she will gladly marry him even if he was earning 30k monthly but due to family pressure on him to marry a graduate and an Igbo lady, he broke up with her. Me thinks he can still persuade his parents to accept the lady.
If you were in our shoes, will you advice your friend differently?

Thanks for your comments. The lady earns around 180k but she mentioned that she spends around 300k when going shopping and she is scared she would no longer be able to do that if she marries him as she would have to contribute almost all her salary to maintaining the family".

Former football player cum Pastor Peterside Idah has claimed that Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama told him in a conversation that he is tired of playing for Nigeria and will not be returning to the team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

There has been a clamour for the Lille of France keeper to return to the team after he quit acrimoniously. Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr is open to welcoming Enyeama back into the team as it was obvious the Eagles have a goalkeeping problem. I was one of those who spoke to Enyeama when there was an attempt to get him back to the national team and he told me he’s tired of playing for Nigeria.


So, there should be no Enyeama (going to the World Cup). The players should have the love to play for Nigeria and not the love to play at the World Cup and make history.

According to Spotify data, hip-hop listening increased 74% over the past year, and Latin music increased by 110%, with two Latin tracks hitting #1 on Spotify for the first time: “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber and “Mi Gente” by J Balvin and Willy Williams. Yankee also held the No. 1 position on Spotify in July, a first for a Latin artist.
