He is the best of the rest..... Only Djokovic and Nadal is better right now! |
The 27-year-old Austrian claimed his first career Grand Slam title with a five-set victory over Alexander Zverev It was a deeply unusual tournament, with fans prohibited, players restricted to a bubble, and a No. 1 seed exiled for an on-court incident, but in the end, the pandemic-edition U.S. Open delivered something fresh: A new men’s champion. On Sunday, Dominic Thiem defeated Alexander Zverev, 2-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6(6), to capture the Open’s men’s singles title in New York City. It is the first major tournament title of Thiem’s career. In an era still dominated by the historic tennis troika of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, the 27-year-old from Austria is the first men’s player to breakthrough with his first major victory since Marin Cilic prevailed here in 2014. Neither Federer, recuperating for an injury, nor Nadal, who chose to stay in Europe to prepare for the delayed French Open, played this year’s tournament. The top-seeded Djokovic was disqualified from the event in the fourth round after an incident in which a ball he hit in frustration struck a line judge. For Thiem, it was an opportunity. The tournament’s second seed, he had reached three major finals prior to this one, and thoroughly established himself as one of the world’s top men’s players. But until now, a victory had eluded him. https://www.wsj.com/articles/dominic-thiem-wins-the-u-s-open-mens-title-11600042806?mod=breakingnews

I don't like the fact that Nigerians don't speak up for important things! |
People accuse doctors of misdiagnosis, but fail to accuse the government of poor funding of health. Nigerians are the problem of Nigeria. |

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it can issue a certificate of return to Sen Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) only if the embattled governor of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola fails to appeal the judgment of the tribunal that sacked him within 21 days. DAILY POST recalls that the Osun State governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja had last week Friday nullified the election of Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and declared Adeleke winner of the 2018 gubernatorial election. Justice Peter Obiora who delivered the majority judgment of the tribunal ordered INEC to immediately issue a fresh certificate of return to Adeleke as the lawful and validly elected governor of Osun State, after declaring the September 27, 2018 re-run election as illegal. However, rumours went round the social media with pictures suggesting INEC issued a certificate of return to Adeleke. Reacting, INEC National Commissioner and chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Barr Festus Okoye debunked the rumours. “The commission has not issued any new certificate in relation to Osun State. “Section 143(1) of the Electoral Act gives a candidate whose election is set aside a period of 21days from the date of the decision to appeal against such a decision,” Okoye said while explaining why the commission can’t issue a certificate of return to Adeleke. “The person is entitled to remain in office pending the determination of the appeal. The commission will only issue the certificate if appeal is not lodged within 21 days. The commission has not issued any new certificate in relation to Osun State,” Okoye told Leadership newspaper. http://dailypost.ng/2019/03/26/pdp-vs-apc-inec-speaks-issuing-ademola-adeleke-certificate-return/amp/
