Personally, I feel the primary purpose of burying the dead is to prevent the stench of the decomposing body and all associated medical hazards from affecting the living. The other, which to me is in addition to the primary purpose is to at least have respect for the dead by doing away with it instead allowing flies buzzing all over the decomposing body.

Otherwise, the dead is dead, the soul is gone and the corpse is nothing but an inanimate like a log of wood. Hindus and Bhudists cremate their corpses while some people throw theirs into water, those people still live well, no spirit is disturbing them.

So as far as I'm concerned, people should simply get any comfortable way of respectfully doing away with their dead bodies.
