Did you know that arsene wenger risked his job and europa league final spot just to get Danny Welbeck fit and ready for FIFA world cup CALL-UP. Itz a pity that Arsenal gambled with high stake and lost, They should have been the team preparing for EUROPA FINAL instead of ATL.MADRID after dominating the first leg of the game. Instead of using home advantage and winning the game when ATL.MADRID was one man down all through the game, they were playing possesion football with their LAZY set of players. PEOPLE TO BLAME FOR ARSENAL LOSS TO ATL. MADRID. 1. Wenger for not subbing welbeck, ozil nd co for their slugish runs 2. Welbeck for causing the goal after un-necessary dive 3. Ozil for his slugish run nd poor final touch. NOTE: ARSENE WENGER IS A BIG GAMBLER ND I'M VERY HAPPY I NEVER SUPPORTED ARSENAL(FAILURE) ;DDid you know that arsene wenger risked his job and europa league final spot just to get Danny Welbeck fit and ready for FIFA world cup CALL-UP. England manager Gareth Southgate has announced his 23-man squad for the 2018 World Cup. There is no place on the plane to Russia for Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere or Manchester City's 75-cap goalkeeper Joe Hart . Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has also been overlooked, along with Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand, while Adam Lallana's injury troubles at Liverpool mean he only makes the standby list. Liverpool's 19-year-old defender Trent Alexander- Arnold, uncapped at senior level, is the most notable inclusion in the squad. Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope is the other uncapped player included, at the expense of Hart, with Stoke City's Jack Butland and Everton's Jordan Pickford the additional options between the sticks. Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has also been selected. The 32-year-old was dropped from the squad earlier this year for the friendly matches against the Netherlands and Italy but has returned to top form for Chelsea and, with 58 caps, Southgate believes his experience could be crucial in Russia. Manchester City's Fabian Delph has got the nod, too, with Southgate seeing his ability to play at left-back or in midfield as a huge benefit. Here's the squad in full: Goalkeepers: Jack Butland (Stoke), Jordan Pickford (Everton), Nick Pope (Burnley). Defenders: Kyle Walker, John Stones ( Manchester City), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Harry Maguire (Leicester), Kieran Trippier, Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), Ashley Young, Phil Jones (Manchester United), Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool). Midfielders: Eric Dier, Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur), Jesse Lingard (Manchester United),Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Fabian Delph (Manchester City), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Chelsea). Forwards: Jamie Vardy (Leicester), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City), Danny Welbeck (Arsenal), Harry Kane (Tottenham). STANDBY LIST: Tom Heaton, James Tarkowski, Lewis Cook, Jake Livermore and Adam Lallana England are in Group G at the World Cup and kick off their campaign against Tunisia on June 18, before facing Panama on June 24 and Belgium on June 28. They will play two home friendlies before they head out to Russia, against Nigeria at Wembley on June 2 and Costa Rica at Elland Road on June 7. Southgate will be managing England at a major tournament for the first time, as a largely inexperienced squad looking to finally bring some joy for Three Lions fans. Under Roy Hodgson, England crashed out at the group stage of the 2014 World Cup and suffered a humiliating last-16 exit at the hands of Iceland at Euro 2016. talkSPORT is your home of the 2018 World Cup. Femi Opabunmi was just 17 when he faced England and David Beckham at the 2002 World Cup Femi Opabunmi became the youngest player to represent Nigeria at a World Cup when he faced England in 2002. But just four years later his career was over, finished by an eye problem. Here he tells BBC Sport how the end of his football dream left him considering taking his own life. I was 17 when I played for Nigeria at the 2002 World Cup - the youngest player at the tournament. I played against England - David Beckham, Michael Owen, Paul Scholes, all of them. But three or four years later the story changed. One minute flying; the next minute down. My eye problem started. I went for surgery. They said I have glaucoma. Everything changed. Things just got worse and worse and worse. I only see with one eye now. I woke up one morning and found out that I couldn't see well. I just saw cloud and had to go the specialist to check. That's when they told me I had to have an operation. After the operation, the problem remained the same. Now I can only see with my left eye. I can't see anything with my right. But I thank God that I can still see with one eye. Giving up football is a very painful thing. Sometimes you think that maybe you should kill yourself. You think a lot, especially when your mates are still playing. You look at them and you shed tears. You feel bad. But in any situation, you have to be stronger. |
