SenseiX:Pat Utomi is Deltan, the odds may favour him to be FinMin, Doyin Salami also or Tanimu Kurfi |
SenseiX:I have to agree, PMB pandered too much to the politicians in that list, Fashola is the only egghead I noticed there, I want to believe there'll be technocrats in the succeeding batches. |

Good for her, Wall Street calls |
I am Delta Igbo, Anioma through and through but I might have to agree with Emerhor, Delta is a very diverse state where all the tribes live remarkably well together with little or no violence. The solidarity of fellow Deltans in ensuring an Anioma governor emerged is a case in point. Anioma has both NNPC and CBN bosses both the most powerful federal parastatals and the state governor, the ministerial slot for the state should go to the Urhobos or Ijaws or Itsekiri, I trust PMB to be a listening father to all. |

The corruption in the Nigerian Judiciary is in itself a major problem. |
A federal high court has barred security agencies and anti-corruption bodies from arresting or probing the former Coordinator of Presidential Amnesty Programme, Kingsley Kuku over alleged fraud.http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/190225-court-stops-icpc-efcc-sss-others-from-arresting-probing-ex-amnesty-boss-kuku.html |

Buhari needs an economic management team and he needs it ASAP.... |
The way una dey carry Buhari matter for head. Election is over and he has won, he's going to be president for the next 4 years at least. Get over yourselves. |
Wise decision by the party less the president becomes a law unto himself. |
The new Secretary To The Government Of The Federation Babachir David Lawal hails from Hong LGA in Adamawa . Hong LGA along with all the other Christian dominated LGAs in Adamawa were won by Goodluck Jonathan although Buhari narrowly won the state on the strength of votes from mainly Moslem Yola. My point is Buhari appointed his SGF from a Christian minority area of the North that voted against him so it clearly shows he has no intention to marginalise anyone. |
From that chart the SS has got more positions than even the SW |
Na waa, Buhari's handlers could not have imagined this uproar. This is not the 1980s, Nigerians are more aware now...We dey observe o.......his actions are starting to make those of us Southerners who supported him look foolish |

Following the nomination of Mr. Babatunde Fowler by President Muhammadu Buhari as the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), the stage has been set for a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to contend with the leadership of the Senate with whom he has been at loggerheads since its emergence last June. As required by law, Fowler would have to be confirmed by the Senate before he can head the FIRS. Should his nomination be rejected by the Senate, Buhari would either have submit another name to replace him or allow the current acting chairman Samuel Olugbesan to continue in the capacity. But with the nomination of Fowler, a well known associate and protégé of Tinubu who served for nine years as the Chairman of the Lagos Board of Inland Revenue (LBIR), the former Lagos State governor would have to come face-to-face with Senate President Bukola Saraki and his deputy Ike Ekweremadu. There has been no love lost between the Senate President and Tinubu since the former defied the dictates of the ruling party by contesting and clinching the Senate Presidency. Tinubu had backed Senator Ahmed Lawan for the post but lost out when a meeting was set up at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, between several APC senators and Buhari, to coincide with the inauguration of the Eighth Senate. Their absence from the Senate chamber on the day of the inauguration paved the way for Saraki and Ekweremadu to win the election unchallenged. Ever since, the Senate has been polarised between Saraki’s loyalists under the auspices of Senators of Like Minds and Ahmed’s supporters known as the Unity Forum. Ahead of the submission of Fowler's name for Senate screening, THISDAY learnt that Tinubu has started reaching out to senators, particularly those in the Senators of Like Minds group loyal to Saraki and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Until Fowler’s nomination, the position was vacant because the last nominee whose name was sent to the Senate by former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mrs. Mfon Akpan from Akwa Ibom State following a recruitment exercise, was rejected by the lawmakers. Concerns that Fowler may suffer the same fate as Akpan has galvanised Tinubu and compelled him to reach out to key senators who are close to Saraki with a view to both resolving the crisis in the Senate in which he is believed to be the sponsor of the Lawan group, and to ensure that the long-drawn out feud in the Senate does not affect other close associates who may be sent to the upper chamber for confirmation for top executive positions. A source said depending on how Tinubu plays his cards, his overture to the senators could either help to resolve the contending issues between the two groups or deepen the division in the Senate. But many pro-Saraki senators, particularly the 81 who signed the vote of confidence on the Senate President on July 28 are already spoiling for a fight. “This is payback time for Asiwaju for all his machinations against the Senate since he could not get his candidate to become Senate President. This is an opportunity to force Tinubu to the table and mend bridges or break them further,” said a senator close to Saraki. The pro-Saraki senators are also angling to move against Fowler because they believe Tinubu is scheming to take control of the country’s finances under the Buhari administration without the president realising the game plan. According to a senator from Bauchi State, the plot by the former governor of Lagos State is to get Fowler into FIRS and also make another of his protégés, Mr. Olawale Edun, who served as his Commissioner for Economic Development, to become the Minister of Finance, thereby seizing control of the economic machinery of the government. Edun, according to the senator who preferred not to be named, will be presented as the ministerial nominee from Ogun State, a development which has pitted Tinubu against Governor Ibikunle Amosun. Amosun is said to have insisted that Edun has never associated with Ogun State and could not be expected to take the biggest federal appointment due to the state. Many of the senators close to Saraki are said to be getting ready to ensure they use the rejection of Fowler’s nomination as a clear signal that the crisis in the Senate has not been due to the protection of any party supremacy but the political interest of Tinubu. Sources also disclosed that one other reason that compelled the former Lagos governor to reach out to Saraki’s loyalists is the Babatunde Fashola issue. While Tinubu does not want his successor to be nominated as minister, Buhari’s body language indicates that he is still not convinced by the ongoing campaign to denigrate Fashola and project him as one who is not good enough for the administration. Tinubu’s plan, alleged a source, is to stop Fashola during the Senate confirmation hearing in the event Buhari nominates the immediate past governor of Lagos by getting the three senators from the state – Oluremi Tinubu, Gbenga Ashafa and Olamilekan Adeola – to oppose his candidacy. “He is however afraid that that plan will only work if the Senate President buys into the plan, as Saraki can overrule the objection of the three senators and get majority of the senators to clear Fashola like they did a few months ago for Musiliu Obanikoro when Senator David Mark was Senate President. “Tinubu particularly believes that Saraki has a soft spot for Fashola and that the two men are associates. The fact that though the Senate President is abroad, he sent his deputy chief of staff, Gbenga Makanjuola, to attend last week’s book launch in honour of Fashola also lends credence to the fear that no plan to stop Fashola will succeed in the Senate except Saraki and his loyalists buy into it,” a senator from Zamfara said. “There must be a trade-off as we get to the period of ministerial nominations and confirmation hearings. What we do not like is this idea of running with the hare and hunting with the hounds. “Those who need us for their own interests, different from the interest of President Buhari are now making it look like we need them. They have continued to create enmity between the Senate and the presidency. Now, they are playing a different game,” a senator from Delta State said. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/fowlers-confirmation-may-bring-tinubu-face-to-face-with-senate-leadership/218286/ Cc lalasticlala. When will these attacks end? We've become almost numb to the nearly daily slaughter of the past few years. |
Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, has said former President Goodluck Jonathan was caged by some powerful forces while in power and therefore was not aware of some of things going on around him. In a damning assessment of Mr. Jonathan’s tenure, Mr. Soyinka said the former president, who left office in May following his defeat by the incumbent, President Muhammadu Buhari, in the March 28 presidential poll, did not know that the nation had been compromised so badly under him until he (Soyinka) brought some issues to his notice. Mr. Soyinka, a professor, spoke in an interview with the current edition Zero Tolerance magazine, a publication of Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. “Correct,” he affirmed when asked if the former president was caged. “There were forces around Jonathan, which he himself did not understand and that is why I stressed that you’ve got to choose your circles of advisers very carefully, when you are in charge. He was caged; things were going on that he did not know about.” Mr. Soyinka, who said he visited Mr. Jonathan twice just before he vacated office, said on one occasion he asked the former president what he was doing to curtail his wife, Patience, who during the presidential campaign was indulging in hate speech. He refused to disclose his (Jonathan) response. According to him, “On a lighter note, I asked him, ‘what are you doing about madam’ because that one seems to be embarrassing the nation as usual because that seems to be her function as so called first lady. You go to a section of the country and tell your supporters to stone those who campaign for change and you insult another part of the nation by calling them those who produce children that they cannot look after. That woman should be charge for incitement chaos. It is incredible that she is allowed to run loose.” Asked what Mr. Jonathan’s reply was, the Nobel Laureate said, “I am not going to tell his response (laughs….) But I am free to tell you what I said. It will be an abuse of privilege if I tell you his response.” Buttressing his clam that Mr. Jonathan was oblivious of some happenings around him while in office, Mr. Soyinka recalled the telephone saga with the king of Morocco, stating that he was the one that told the president about it when they met. He said, “I will tell you one interesting aspect of what we discussed. I will reveal to you that Jonathan did not know that the nation had been compromised so badly in this telephone thing with the King of Morocco. I was the one who told him when we met over an issue and I said to him, ‘by the way, how is the king of Morocco? Jonathan didn’t know what I was talking about. “When I mentioned the telephone issue, he thought I was talking about is campaign for AfDB managing director for which he was lobbying other heads of states. He said ‘I haven’t spoken to him in a long time’, and I said, ‘no, you spoke to him a few days ago.’ He said, ‘no, I intend to speak with him. I even asked my foreign ministry to link me up with him because I am campaigning for a candidate but I haven’t spoken to the king of Morocco.’ Then I said to him, ‘you better go and read the newspapers of last week.’ And I can tell you he did not know.” Continuing, Mr. Soyinka lamented, “So you can imagine that the president did not know that a scandal had developed that involved a withdrawal of an ambassador! “And again, I am revealing this to you since this interview won’t be published till after the elections because I wouldn’t want to be seen as campaigning for or against any one side. It shows how in deep trouble governance can be; governance can dig itself into a huge hole and not even know it’s in there. The statement that was issued was issued the night when I met him.” Mr. Soyinka came down hard on Mr. Jonathan when asked about the criticisms that trailed his administration that it was not fighting corruption. “This is what we are talking about. How can a public figure, an intelligent person like that come out to tell the public that corruption is not stealing,” Mr. Soyinka said. As president, you’ve got to show some example …Why should a president involve himself in what is already structurally established and dedicated to that purpose?” Mr. Soyinka also said he maintained a cordial relationship with Mr. Jonathan during his tenure despite some attacks he felt compelled to launch on the former Nigerian leader and his wife. According to him, at some point, Mr. Jonathan who ruled the country between 2010 and 2015 was tending towards fascism.“No. It was never anything personal,” when asked why he withdrew his support from the former president. “We marched in order to protect the constitution, not the person of Jonathan. We retained a cordial relationship during his tenure. However despite some attacks I felt compelled to launch on him – and his wife. Jonathan committed some truly alarming errors of governance. He was propelling himself towards outright fascism.” http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/188126-interview-jonathan-was-held-hostage-while-in-office-soyinka.html Cc lalasticlala |
egift:Oh really in secret and it was reported by all major dailies, the thing with some of you guys on both sides of the spectrum is that your hatred has blocked whatever sense of reasoning you possess. |
I don't think anyone rationally thinks Buhari is going after Jonathan, he is an ex president, that confers alone some level of untouchability, no ex Nigerian president is and has ever been touched plus for all the talk of corruption. No one till date has made any direct allegations of personal corruption at GEJ. Buhari may have just invited him for some clarifications of info, He also held meetings with OBJ, Danjuma and Tambuwal last week, That said certain ministers like Diezani may face cases though. BTW I doubt anyone takes news from Sahara serious, no journalistic ethos whatsoever. |
Easiest way to have your way in Nigeria seems to be to threaten violence, it took the threat to restart hostilities for the govt to do the right thing. However this current process is unsustainable, paying guys off to abstain from violence. |
Slow and steady wins the race, investors should be patient and not stampede him into making rash decisions |
My Delta people, we nor dey carry last. Jokes apart, his looting aside,Ibori still has a cult following in Delta.....the sad reality of politics in the Niger Delta |
Is that really leopard skin , On some Walter Palmer shii... |
Delta Igbos(Aniomas) though, so many powerful brains from there. Ngozi Iweala, Godwin Emefiele, This Kachikwu guy, Bright Okogwu, Jim Ovia, Tony Elumelu etc, They take education very seriously, there was a period when nearly a third of Nigeria's bank MDs hailed from Anioma... Kudos to Buhari for this appointment, he is eminently qualified. |
SenseiX:Like I said earlier, 4 years is a long time in politics |
TheImp:Nuhu flopped in Adamawa guber, i was disappointed, i still think the APC will hold Nigeria for the next 8 years at least, PDP should focus on reinventing herself towards 2023 not 2019 and maybe gain some key governorships outside its base of SS and SE, for example i doubt PDP will retain Kogi next year, they should focus on that and also holding Ondo also and maybe getting Edo back then i'll consider them serious. It'll be hard but i think they have a very good chance in Edo with Ize Iyamu and maybe Ondo too...Kogi looks lost but who knows, |
Dankwambo is a name i've been hearing a lot lately, Four years is a long time in politics and a lot is dependent on how Buhari performs though. Dankwambo should try to get his name out during this second term, go across the country more, spend more on the media, let people hear from him, he needs visibility |
SenseiX:I hope so because the DSS are statutorily responsible for the protection of the president and are comparatively better trained than the other arms of the security forces. |
