Politics / Re: El Rufai Is Buhari's Preferred Successor For 2019 by LordVarys: 6:43pm On Jan 13, 2016
The trial of Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki at the CCT over a 13-count charge bordering on alleged corruption and false declaration of assets‎ is not unconnected to high-wired political scheming towards 2019 presidential election, a source close to the Presidency confirmed.

Incumbent President Muhammadu Bu‎hari has agreed with key leaders of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) that he will only spend a term in office, according to a Chieftain of the defunct CPC. Sources confirmed that prior to the merger between the new Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) – a breakaway faction of the PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC), the APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Chief Bisi Akande and the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-rufai met in Kaduna to broker a deal on 2015 and 2019 presidential elections.

‎The reported deal on 2019 presidential election means that Governor El-rufai will be supported to complete the second term of President Buhari while former Governor Tinubu will nominate the Vice-President. This was allegedly designed to set the stage for Tinubu Presidency by 2023.

The sharing formula for presiding officers and principal officers was also shared between the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).  Sources confirmed that the deal was not disclosed to a faction of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) led by Governor Rochas Okorocha and leaders of the nPDP, including Senate President Bukola Saraki. President Muhammadu Buhari is said to be “fully aware” of the deal between former Governor Tinubu and Governor El-rufai.

Initially, ‎President Buhari was said to have rejected the deal and threatened to opt out of the merger arrangement but he was persuaded to “play along” by Governor El-rufai who the deal favours to succeed President Buhari by 2019. According to an informed source, a former National Secretary of CPC, Alhaji Buba Galadima, Sule Hanma and other key loyalists of President Buhari stoutly kicked against the 2019 presidential deal.

The face-off later led to their withdrawal from the Buhari inner caucus. ‎However, the emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate President against the wish of the All Progressives Congress (AP9) under controversial circum‎stances is said to pose a “serious” threat to the 2019 presidential deal between Asiwaju Tinubu and Governor El-rufai.

According to an informed source, if the CCT failed to convict the Senate President, there are other plots to unleash the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Senator Saraki until his reputation is “substantially damaged”.

A New York-based online news platform, Sahara Reporters was said to have been recruited to put the Senate President on “media trial”. The managers of the online website allegedly signed a contract worth of $500,000 with agents of former Governor Tinubu and Governor El-rufai to put the Senate President on “media trial”.

The source said, “SR is working on contract basis and they are working hard to justify $500,000. Their aim is to destroy the Senate President”.

The view that the trial of the Senate President is politically-motivated is further confirmed by the senator representing Kaduna Central, Comrade Shehu Sani, who declared that Senate President Bukola Saraki poses a threat to certain interests in 2019, hence his trial at the court.

Senator Sani said, “there are puppeteers who felt that pinning him down to a case of corruption will discredit him (Saraki), will keep him busy and make him unsellable for the future”, declaring that, “it is just a matter of time the identity of those who are interested in Saraki’s case will become open”.

Politics / El Rufai Is Buhari's Preferred Successor For 2019 by LordVarys: 6:36pm On Jan 13, 2016
As Tinubu said today and many have been speculating for months, Buhari intends to only serve a single term and then hand over to a young technocrat.
Mallam Nasir El Rufai, Kaduna State Governor who is one of Buhari's most trusted advisers is reportedly Buhari's preferred candidate, and even Tinubu seems to be leaning towards him especially after Tambuwal's betrayal during the Senate and HOR elections...Buhari has visited Kaduna at least six times since his swearing-in and trust s El Rufai explicitly ...El Rufai has also played host to Tinubu and Osinbajo twice supposedly for project commissioning but actually to build a base prior to 2019. SP Bukola Saraki also has his eye on the seat and has the backing of most of the ex governors and NASS members in the APC. His supposed ambition is the prime reason for the attempt to cut him down.
Buhari wants to play a Mandela, clean up government corruption and hand over to a technocrat.....
All said and done, he might change his mind and decide to run again
The Battle for 2019 presidency may have kicked-off between the two major factions in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), led by the former Vice-President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the party’s national leader and former Lagos governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, National Weekender can reveal.

According to an inside source, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity: “There has been a hint that, President Muhammadu Buhari, for undisclosed reasons, may not be contesting in the next elections and because both factions don’t want to be caught napping, preparations for 2019 has begun in earnest.

“In fact, I can categorically tell you that present crisis rocking the APC is attributable to this fact that both factions want to gain control over the entire party structure.”

National Weekender further scooped that, while Alhaji Atiku Abubakar wants to replace President Buhari, Asiwaju Tinubu is at the moment preparing the current Governor of Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai

The race for 2019 presidential election might begin sooner than anticipated as major actors are aligning their interests for the number one job ahead of the next general elections.

This is so if the rumours that have been making the rounds that President Muhammadu Buhari might not contest for two terms in office.

This has thrown open aspiration of big names within the fold of the All Progressives Congress to fill the void.

There might been some governors in his party who are nursing the ambition of succeeding him. Though, these governors have not openly made their interests known, strong indications have shown they may be discreetly conducting campaigns, melting loose wall with foes and strengthening existing relationship with friends and allies. Just the way President Buhari did in the build up to the 2015 general elections.

Naij.com brings you top five APC governors that might replace Buhari in 2019

1.  Aminu Tambuwal

The Usman Dan Fodio University trained lawyer who is the current governor of Sokoto state has not hidden his ambition to become the number one citizen of Nigeria.

He is a charismatic leader and rarely talk but allows his antecedent to speak for him. No sooner that he officially decamped to APC, his associates had to cough out N27million for the party presidential nomination form.

But, he could not continue his presidential ambition as elders from his state, Sokoto and other parts of the countries might have told him to exit from the race for Buhari and instead vie for the state governorship ticket.

The governor selling point for the 2019 presidential election would be his ability to maintain peace in the House during his tenure as Speaker of the House of Representatives. More so, his leadership style that many associates termed ‘inclusive’ could be another advantage for Tambuwal . He was able to carry on with his duties as Speaker even when many PDP members jumped ship to APC thus making the later to have a slight majority.

Another strong point of Tambuwal is his ‘dove’ disposition as a peacemaker, when the then minority leader, Femi Gbajabiamila and his colleagues wanted to upturn the PDP leadership from majority to minority, he calmed them down through his soothing words.  Tambuwal might be the man  to watch out for in 2019.

Aminu Tambuwal

2.  Nasir El-Rufai

The technocrat turned politician is not new to Nigeria’s political landscape. He came to the consciousness of Nigerians in his days as the minister of the federal capital territory, Abuja. He was different things to different people, to his close friends and associates, giant, a reference to his small size, some nicknamed him privatisation czar. This was due to his work as the director general of the Bureau of Public Enterprises in the administration of former president Olusegun Obasanjo.

The restoration of Abuja master plan that saw to the demolition of houses earned him the tag ”Mr Demolition”. He ha a tough battle with the senate prior to his confirmation as a minister, where he alleged that certain members of the upper chamber had approached him for ‘hand shake’ before he can be confirmed.

Aside these controversies that have trailed his person, El-Rufai has proved himself as a democrat.

He was with President Buhari during the days of struggle in the now defunct, Congress for Progressive Change (CPC). He is a close ally of Buhari. During the build up to the 2015 general election, it was learnt that the president practically forced him on Kaduna APC as there were other candidates in the party that could have clinched the ticket.

El-Rufai has proved his mettle as a governor. Few months into his administration, he has showed signs of performance and he may want to replicate same at the centre come 2019.

3.  Aminu Masari

He is quiet politician but very effective. Masari is a very experienced in the intricacies of the Nigeria’s political firmament. He is President Buhari’s kinsman and the present governor of Katsina state. He is also a former speaker of the House of Representatives.

The governor was able to lead the house successfully without rancour between 2003 and 2007.  In the build up to the 2011 general elections, he ran unsuccessfully for his present position on the platform of the defunct CPC.

Being President Buhari kinsman might be an advantage for him if he decides to launch his presidential ambition. He may through his calm disposition win the heart of Nigerians in the  run up to 2019 general election.

Whatever the flaws of PDP, no political party in Nigeria's history has empowered minorities like the party. Bayelsa is the smallest state in Nigeria yet they produced a president, even when they agitated, they were given amnesty to empower the youths....in the last year's of GEJ reign, the East West Road was fixed, Federal University in Otuoke, new Federal Medical Centre among other projects....if not that Sylva was a former governor, he wouldn't have stood a chance, the few votes he polled were not for his party but him.

Politics / The Orders For The Bail Of Dasuki & Nnamdi Kanu Should Be Obeyed- Femi Falana by LordVarys: 6:39pm On Jan 10, 2016
For 16 years that the Peoples Democratic Party was in power, the federal government exhibited total contempt for the Rule of Law. The Constitution and other laws were breached with impunity while court orders were disobeyed on a regular basis. In the famous case of Attorney-General of Lagos State v Attorney-General of the Federation (2005) 2 WRN 1 at 150 the Supreme Court held that "In our democracy all the Governments of this country as well as organizations and individuals must kowtow to the due process and this they can vindicate by resorting to the courts for redress in the event of any grievance."

One of the reasons why Nigerians voted for the candidate of the All Progressive Congress, General Mohammadu Buhari (rtd) during the last general election was his promise to fight corruption and end impunity in the country. Upon winning the election, President Buhari further pledged to abide by the Rule of Law. To that extent, he has a duty to ensure that all organs and officials of the Government operate within the ambit of the law. In particular,  he should not allow overzealous security personnel to engage in any form of impunity and thereby expose the Government to unwarranted embarrassment.

In July last year, the State Security Service (SSS)  searched the private residence of former NSA, Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd) at Abuja. When Col Dasuki alleged that his house was illegally searched, I pointed out that the action of the SSS was justified as there was a search warrant validly issued by a magistrate court in the federal capital territory that  authorised the search. He was eventually charged with money laundering and criminal diversion of huge sums of public fund before the Federal High Court and the Federal Capital Territory High Court at Abuja. Notwithstanding the gravity of the offences, both courts have admitted him to bail. But after he had met the bail conditions the SSS decided to rearrest him at the gate of Kuje prisons on the ground that investigations have not been concluded in respect of other criminal allegations.

The decision of the SSS to ignore the order admitting Col Dasuki to bail coupled with the failure to re-arraign him on fresh charges is tantamount to impunity in every material respect. If the federal government were aggrieved by the order admitting Col. Dasuki to bail it should have challenged it in the Court of Appeal. Much as the Nigerian people are fully behind the Buhari Administration in the patriotic move to recover the looted wealth of the nation, the federal government should be advised to ensure that the procedure for the loot recovery meets the tenets of the rule of law. The SSS and other security agencies should therefore refrain from allowing corruption to fight back by playing into the hands of the criminal suspects who have committed crimes against humanity by diverting money earmarked for the procurement of arms and armament to fight the terrorists.

In the same vein, the order admitting the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, to bail should also be complied with. If the federal government has other charges against both suspects it should file them in the court. There is no provision for keeping criminal suspects at the pleasure of security officials. Meanwhile,  all valid and subsisting orders made by courts in favor of criminal suspects should be obeyed without further delay.

To ensure  that  suspects are no longer held in custody in any part of Nigeria without any legal justification section 34 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act has imposed a duty on each  the Chief Judges to designate  a Chief Magistrate and  a Judge of the  High Court to visit all police stations and other detention centers within their jurisdiction, at least once a month. During such visits, appropriate directives shall be given while any officer who detains any person illegally will be sanctioned.

The Presidency is proposing to spend a total sum of N6.94bn on wildlife conservation, fuel and lubricants, purchase of C-Caution triangles for vehicles, fire extinguishers, construction of recreational facilities at the State House and maintain the presidential fleet.

Details of the spending are contained in the 2016 budget, which President Muhammadu Buhari presented to a joint session of the National last week.

A copy of the budget for the State House was obtained by our correspondent on Wednesday in Abuja.

It states that while the sum of N3.65bn is allocated for the presidential fleet of the State House alone, the balance of N3.27bn is proposed for items such as furniture, electricity, wildlife conservation, fuel and kitchen equipment among others.

For instance, it states that the Presidency is planning to spend a total sum of N326.08m on wildlife conservation.

The budget document also makes a provision of N387.98m for general renovation of the guest house at the State House while additional amount of N45m is budgeted for “complete furnishing of the entire guest house.”

It also indicates that the sum of N764.67m is proposed for “construction and provision of recreational facilities”, while N322.4m is allocated for the linking of cable for the driver’s restroom at the State House.

Installation of electrical lightings and fittings, according to the budget document, is estimated to gulp N618.6m; linking of cable from the generator house of the guest house to the gate, N213.87m; while the sum of N189.17m is being proposed for a bulletproof ambulance as well as other operational vehicles.

In the same vein, the purchase of C-caution (triangles), fire extinguishers and towing ropes of booster cable have a budget of N27m; upgrade of Internet infrastructure, N111.4m; purchase of canteen/kitchen equipment, N89.17m; fuel and lubricants for motor vehicles and generators, N90.49m; and welfare packages, N107.25m.

For the presidential air fleet of the State House, the budget document states that out of the sum of N3.65bn, about N3.275bn would be spent for recurrent items while the balance of N376.78m has been proposed for capital expenditure.

Some of the expenditure items listed for the presidential fleet are maintenance of aircraft, N1.05bn; aircraft fuel, N582.48m; cleaning and fumigation services, N4m; insurance premium, N320m; miscellaneous such as refreshment and meals, N40m; and security vote, N183m.

Similarly, purchase of fire fighting equipment for the presidential air fleet is to cost N7.9m; purchase of navigational instrument, N262.4m; medical expenses, N7.4m; and loss of foreign exchange, N8.7m.

Also, the sum of N28.7m is budgeted for purchase of motor vehicles; computers, N6.7m; gaming equipment, N20.26m; security equipment, N15.4m; industrial equipment, N3.7m; and provision of fire fighting station N9.43m among others, which include newspapers, periodical, printing of security and non security documents, instructional materials, stationery and computer consumables.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, had in November put the number of aircraft in the Presidential fleet at 10.

He had said in a statement that between May and November this year, the sum of N2.1bn had been spent on the presidential fleet.

Buhari had, while presenting the budget to the lawmakers, said he would ensure that the nation’s resources were prudently managed for the public good.

Politics / Nigerian President Refuses To Obey Court Orders-Associated Press by LordVarys: 8:43pm On Dec 31, 2015
LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) — Nigeria's government will not release two prominent detainees despite several court orders for their release, and will not comment on the situation of a third, wounded detainee, President Muhammadu Buhari said Wednesday.

Buhari, a former military dictator who calls himself a born-again democrat, did not discuss the propriety of defying court orders when he spoke on national TV.

"If you see the atrocities these people committed against this country!" Buhari said in justification. "We can't allow them to jump bail."

A Federal High Court set no bail conditions and ordered the unconditional release of Biafra separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu on Dec. 17. Kanu was detained Oct. 17 on charges recently escalated to terrorism and financing terrorism. His cause led to a civil war that killed 1 million people in the 1960s.

Former national security adviser Sambo Dasuki was detained Nov. 4 after intelligence agents surrounded his home for days to prevent him from leaving the country after a court allowed him bail to seek medical care abroad.

Dasuki is accused, among other things, of diverting $2.2 billion meant to buy arms to fight the Boko Haram Islamic uprising. Three courts have ordered his release on bail.

"What of the over two million people displaced, most of them orphans whose fathers have been killed?" Buhari asked. "We cannot allow that."

He refused to discuss the situation of Shiite leader Ibraheem Zakzaky, who was detained with four bullet wounds Dec. 14 in military raids that allegedly killed hundreds of his followers.

The army said the raids and bulldozing of Zakzaky's home and Shiite spiritual centers was a response to an alleged Shiite attempt to assassinate Nigeria's army chief. Human Rights Watch has said the raid was unprovoked.

Authorities have refused to allow anyone to see Zakzaky.

Buhari said he would not comment until an investigation is complete.

Politics / Why "Zaria Massacre" Is A Scary Deja Vu By Gimba Kakanda by LordVarys: 9:29am On Dec 31, 2015
The cruelest analysts of the December 12 crackdown on Shiite mobs in Zaria are those who ignore the background of the sect's past confrontations with both the authority and other parts of society not comfortable with their doctrinal alignments. The clash with Nigeria Army was a familiar experience, in the pattern of the July 26, 2014 unexplainably fatal "self-defence" by the same Army.

Shiism didn't suddenly become what's perceived by rival sects as a nuisance, with their members condemned as heretics, on December 12. It's a practice that only followed the script and rule of this institutionally dysfunctional nation that has given religious bodies an unwritten  permission to build an independent sub-system which, with many others similar, compete for the destruction of this country.

I don't seek to justify the zealotry of Shiite youth who mounted roadblocks on a public road, denying even a military boss access to it. It's not the first time a youth, either under the banner of a religion, political party or civil society organization adopted such method of civil disobedience to express a grievance, even if not perceived as legitimate in popular opinion.

No matter what, there's always an alternative to a crackdown on a bunch of boys with sticks and knives. A rain of bullets on a ragtag group, in the season members of the group are yet to trust the authority for the killings of their members in a politicized incident of suicide bombing and state-authorized killing, isn't a wise approach.

No matter what, the Nigeria Army could've  handled the recalcitrant Shiites with a certain speck of intelligence, learning from their  disastrous response to the dissents of similarly provocative isolates in Maiduguri. That the rate and way the crackdown on Boko Haram cult, which began on June 11, 2009, escalated didn't even serve as a lesson to our security personnel and policymakers is a confusing tragedy.

This Commando-style approach is the reason we've too many widows in our Army Barracks today. Even the most technologically advanced countries who are quick to exhibit their military might haven't succeeded in suppressing religious extremism through the use of force alone. We need force only when and where intelligence fails. We're a country in the middle of a crisis and thus we must ally against all avoidable actions that may make more enemies for the state.

But I understand that, as votaries of the Maliki school of Sunni Islam that is the majority in this part of Africa, our abhorrence to perceived deviations of Shiism isn't just political; it's doctrinal. We abhor them because they misrepresent Islam, and thus deserve horrible deaths. But in spite of our perception of the Shiites as nuisance, no people destroyed the image of Islam as believers who subscribe to the precepts of Sunnism. Both Boko Haram and ISIS identified with Sunni Islam. So did Osama Ben Laden, and all these misrepresent the image of Islam in the name of jihad.

Shiism is a nuisance, a heresy. But have their members been indicted in any act of terror in Nigeria to earn them a graduation into terrorism? Shiism, like all religious or sectarian movements, is what it is in Nigeria because of this obvious dysfunction in our institutions. Such dysfunction we witnessed even recently in the government's response to the confrontation between the Shiites and Nigerian soldiers, recording many casualties, including three sons of the national leader of the Shiites.

I'm not defending anyone, but if disorderly assemblies are what constitute nuisance in the practices of our religion, then we the self-righteous and blame-apportioning believers are all guilty. We must be honest in our attributions of wrongs that accumulate to this mountain of troubles we want to destroy.

This republic must step out to draw the lines between freedom and transgression, to highlight the extent to which a citizen is allowed to exhibit his religiosity or partake in a freedom of worship not specifically clarified in the Constitution. The truth is, various sects of both Islam and Christianity in Nigeria are notorious for contravening the laws of the land. All block public roads while marking certain religious functions. Many even have a paramilitary unit tasked with "defending" them from the rest of us. If the convoy of the Chief of Army Staff comes to pass through Kashim Ibrahim Way here in Wuse II, Abuja when the largely Sunni Muslims gather for a Jummah prayer at An-Nur Mosque, he will be asked to turn back no matter the emergency he points to as reason he wants to use that public road.

Similarly, every Sunday, churches in my neighborhood in Life Camp, Abuja, block public roads and nobody, even the FCT Minister whose official residence is just about three blocks away from one of the churches is allowed to negotiate that public road. It's the same story on Mambolo Street, Wuse Zone 2, every Sunday. It's also the same on Kur Mohammed Avenue in Central Area on Sunday when church service holds at Thisday Dome. A church mounts roadblocks to deny the residents of the district a right to use that road until the service is over, often with the connivance of our police force.

My point is, except we just developed brains overnight, Nigeria gave religious bodies these unrestrained powers to become "nuisance" wherever they function. What the Shiites do in their processions isn't different from what our politicians do in their political rallies, where political thugs block roads, harass and hurt non-participating passers-by and motorists.

The first step we must take in demarcating the boundaries of religion is to know what "freedom of assembly" means. We must seek to understand, in our civics, why followers of Candidate Muhammadu Buhari would be allowed to shut down a city in the name of a political rally and Cleric Ibrahim El-Zakzaky is perceived as a nuisance for the activities of his own loyal followers. We need to clarify many things and define what is wrong and right according to our Constitution.

What frightens me even more is, If Nigeria Army had been what it's designed to be, it would've gathered intelligence on, or foreseen, the happenings in Zaria before it allowed its boss, the Chief of Army Staff, to embark on that road trip. We have a military intelligence unit tasked with the responsibility of such secret operations. Why aren't you thinking along that line and talking about it? The COAS is not god, and for making more enemies for the state when his people are still unable to wipe out the existing, when we've too many widows in the barracks, he showed a lack of wisdom in executing that promise of the government to terminate the existence of Boko Haram this December.

The fact that the military seem to have no idea what was happening before the tragic encounter with the mob should be the first institutional lapse to look into in our enquiries, and in the state's investigation. This may explain many things, because, if Nigeria were a sane country, the confrontation could've been avoided. Making more enemies for the state in the month you promised to end the existence of their ilk is either a ploy to distract or manufacture an excuse for the failure to fulfill the promise. May God save us from us!

Politics / Media Chat - Buhari Is Sincere But Out Of Depth On Economic Issues by LordVarys: 10:09pm On Dec 30, 2015
Watching President Buhari, I realised that he is a very honest and straightforward person and I appreciated his candor.
However I found his answers particularly partaking to the economy and the oil sector to be far from satisfying,
He seemed very uninformed and unaware of prevailing economic situation and he didn't give concrete answers to even softball economic questions.
This is even more worrisome considering his largely mediocre economic team.
Nigeria is facing it's biggest economic crisis in years and he's going to need to get a grasp of the issues to adequately address them.
Today, it seemed like he had no clues at all to the economic situation. My own opinion though.

Both men are not even ready to run. DSS granted bail to more dangerous boko haram agents during Jonathan regime.

Both men will have guarantors.
I hope this is not a return to 1984
Nnamdi Kanu can be held under the anti terrorism act of 2012 for 6 months without trial by the DSS, his case is different from Dasuki's to some extent which borders on embezzlement. Buhari still has that dictatorial streak in him though,

You people keep making the same mistake every time. As powerful as Obama is he cannot keep someone in custody with recourse to the law.
I know that and I believe Buhari should obey court orders but the reality of it all is that Dasuki and Kanu are facing serious charges and are thus flight risks if granted bail, That said he should obey court orders.

Nnamdi Kanu, Zakzaky, Dasuki, etc will almost surely remain in prison throughout Buhari's tenure. Nnamdi Kanu's lawyers better start buying land, because they will build mansions if Kanu continues to go to court.
Buhari lost his cool there, their lawyers should stop wasting money fighting for bail, they will keep on re-arresting them till infinity. As much as I despise their crimes, I still think it's dangerous to disobey court orders and choose which to obey in a democracy....its a slippery slope that can lead to anarchy

Politics / Re: Rating Of President Buhari's Media Chat by LordVarys: 9:18pm On Dec 30, 2015
Buhari seemed terribly uninformed and unaware on a vast range of issues which is worrying . He seemed out of depth on questions relating to the economy and needs help.
And his defiance on disobedience of court orders is a pointer to dangerous things ahead, One can surmise though that Dasuki and Nnamdi Kano are going to rot in jail while Buhari remains president.
Overall while I may not necessarily be a fan of his, I respect his honesty and integrity, that's something at least. I'll give him 30%

Politics / Oby Ezekweseli Rude And Shouting At Attorney General Yesterday-video by LordVarys: 1:05pm On Dec 30, 2015
Former minister and Twitter rabble-rouser Oby Ezekwesilly and members of the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) movement met the Attorney-General Abubakar Malami yesterday.

After asking the minister to release a fact-finding report of a committee that looked into the circumstances surrounding the abduction of the over 200 Chibok schoolgirls by Boko Haram terrorists and the failure to rescue them, the BBOG group, led by Ezekwesilly and has been campaigning for their release, switched to demanding “bring back our soldiers” who were jailed for cowardice in the war against the insurgents.

Watch the encounter here:

As the minister tried to explain that the soldiers were tried and sentenced and the government has commuted their death sentence to imprisonment, Ezekwesilly resorted to shouting over him that it was “unjust”. She claimed that the soldiers’ leaders were “evil” to them. Malami, to his credit, was a picture of professionalism, and calmly interjected asking “Dr, let me talk”.
