Politics / CNN Mocks Nigeria, Over Buhari's Abbsence by Lorenx(m): 8:35am On Jul 31, 2017
The United States television medium, Cable News Network, CNN, has mocked Nigeria in its latest edition of “The Global Public Square (GPS)”, a foreign affairs show anchored on CNN by Fareed Zakaria.
In an apparent mockery of Nigeria and her President Muhammadu Buhari, CNN, on its programme displayed at 4:59pm local time on Sunday said, “The head of state from which country has not set foot in his homeland in over two months?”
It went ahead to tick an option with the name Nigeria as the correct answer. The options were given as Saudi Arabia, Cuba, Nigeria and Syria.
A screenshot of the mockery tweeted by Chidi Odinkalu, Former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is given below.
What do you say Nigerians? Type your comments below please.
Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari has been in London since May 7 on a medical follow-up. Some political delegations including the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo have been visiting President Buhari in London and have told Nigerians that the president is doing just fine and will soon return to continue his presidential duties.

Politics / No Referendum No Election In Southeast - Nnamdi Kanu by Lorenx(m): 5:47am On Jun 23, 2017
namdi Kanu
Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu, has said that If the Federal Government does not agree to conduct referendum fro Biafra there will not be any form of election in the Southeast during the 2019 general elections.
“If the Federal Government does not agree with us on a date for referendum, there will be no elections in the southeast, we are starting with Anambra come November this year. There will be no governorship election in Anambra State”, Mr. Kanu said in a video on Youtube.
He went further to say “In 2019, the whole of Biafra land will not vote for any president. There will be no Senator, there will be no House of Reps, there will be no House of Assembly and there will be no Councilor-ship elections in Biafra land if they fail to call for a referendum.”
He also said that “Nigerian government should build as many prisons as possible to jail all Biafrans because there is no going back and we are ready to go there unless the federal government gives us Biafra.
“We are not like any other people. People like us don’t come twice. That’s why I know that with the last breath in this very body that Biafra will be restored. There’s nothing anybody can do about it. Tell them that’s what I said. Nobody on this earth can stop Biafra,”
“In 2019, the whole of Biafra land will not vote for any president. There will be no Senator, there will be no House of Reps, there will be no House of Assembly and there will be no Councilor-ship elections in Biafra land if they (federal government) fail to call for a referendum.

Politics / No Going Back On Deadline Says Northern Youths by Lorenx(m): 6:43am On Jun 20, 2017
No going back on deadline for Igbo, say northern youths

By Saxone Akhaine, Abdulganiu Alabi (Kaduna) and Muyiwa Adeyemi (Ibadan) | 20 June 2017 | 4:30 am
Nigeria’s acting president Yemi Osinbajo

• Urge Osinbajo to allow creation of Biafra nation
• Restate call for referendum on exit of easterners
• U.S. committed to Nigeria’s unity, declares envoy

The coalition of northern youth groups insisted yesterday that Igbo residing in their region must leave on October 1, 2017.The groups, including the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) urged the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo to allow the emergence of Biafran State from Nigeria.
The position of the northern youths indicates that there is no easy solution to the crisis over the eviction notice despite the assurances by the Federal Government and some leaders.
One of the leaders of the coalition and National President of AYCF, Alhaji Shettima Yerima, confirmed on phone that the youths had sent a letter to Osinbajo on their position. In the open letter signed by five of the leaders of the groups, the coalition urged the acting president to facilitate an easy exit for the Igbo to be allowed to have their dream country, Biafra. This, the northern group said should not be through a violent means but a peaceful manner through a referendum.
Those who signed the letter include, Amb. Shettima Yerima (AYCF); Joshua Viashman (Northern Youth Vanguard); Aminu Adam (Arewa Youth Development Foundation); Abdul-Azeez Suleiman (Northern Emancipation Network) and Nastura Ashir Sharif (Arewa Citizens Action for Change).
According to them, the acting president should take steps to facilitate the actualisation of the Biafran nation in line with the principle of self-determination as an integral part of contemporary customary international law.
They said their concern to allow the Igbo have their way was based on the fact that “the Biafrans have confessed to arming themselves for a violent breakup, we feel that it is risky for the rest of the country particularly the north to go on pretending that it is safe for us to co-habit with the Igbo given how deeply they are entrenched in our societies.” The northern youths added that it was better for the Igbo to go without bloodletting.
The groups further argued that as the Igbo agitations persisted and assumed threatening dimensions, “we submit that there is need to ensure that they are given the opportunity to exercise the right to self-determination as entrenched under the aforementioned international statutes to which Nigeria is a signatory.”
The Arewa youths, who said they were not waging war or calling anyone to violence, added: “We nevertheless are also not willing to continue tolerating the malicious campaign and threats of war that the Igbo have continued to wage against us. We also cannot afford to continue giving the keys to our cities to a people whose utterances, plans and arrangements are clearly geared towards war and anarchy.
“We therefore demand that the only enduring solution to this scourge that is being visited on the nation is complete separation of the states presently agitating for Biafra from the Federal Republic of Nigeria through a peaceful political process by taking steps to facilitate the actualisation of the Biafran nation.
“The principle of self-determination has, since World War II become a part of the United Nations Charter which states in Article 1(2), that one of the purposes of the UN is ‘to develop friendly relations among nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples.’
“We submit that this protocol envisages that people of any nation have the right to self-determination, and although the charter did not categorically impose direct legal obligations on member states, it implies that member states allow agitating or minority groups to self-govern as much as possible.”
According to the coalition, the Igbo manifested their hatred for Nigeria’s unity barely five years after the country’s independence “when on January 15, 1966, their army officers carried out the first-ever mutiny that marked the beginning of a series of crises which have profoundly altered the course of Nigeria’s history.”
They noted that even in recent times, the agitation for the Igbo to have the Republic of Biafra heightened with the activities of Nnamdi Kanu’s Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPoB) and were never opposed by the majority of the Igbo.
“Kanu and IPoB have declared full allegiance to a Republic of Biafra and continued to preach hatred and war virtually every day, not for once did any Igbo leader call them to order. Instead, many of the leaders, including Ike Ekweremadu, the Deputy Senate President, the most senior elected Igbo, pays Kanu courtesy calls to prove that he is speaking for the entire Igbo.
“Even the latest statement by the South-East Governors Forum signed by Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State in a response to the Northern reaction, did not condemn Kanu.”
While giving the acting president the assurance that no Igbo would be harmed in the region, the coalition insisted that Igbo be allowed to have their Biafra Republic without a drop of blood.
Meanwhile, the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Stuart Symington, has said that his country would continue to work towards the promotion of the unity of Nigeria, where he said the strength of the world’s most populous black nation lies.
The envoy, who led top officials of the embassy on a working visit to the office of the Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, in Ibadan, yesterday, noted the U.S. recognised the strategic importance of Nigeria in Africa.
He said that his visit was in furtherance of his country’s vision and mission to explore new frontiers of partnership for development with African countries, which, he said, informed his decision to tour every part of the country.

Politics / Rumour Of Attack, Killings Of Igbos Dismissed By Igbo Leaders by Lorenx(m): 6:37am On Jun 17, 2017
• Fulani Cattle Breeders Warn Against Fresh Southern Kaduna Crisis
The Kaduna State Government and the Igbo community leaders yesterday condemned reports of an attack on the Igbos relocating to eastern states following the October 1 ultimatum given by northern youths.
The government officials, top security personnel and Igbo leaders in the state, while addressing journalists, debunked inciting pictures and audio messages circulating in the state on how several Igbos retuning to the Southeast were allegedly ambushed in a luxurious bus conveying them.
The Senior Assistance on Media and Publicity to Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Samuel Aruwan, and Igbo leaders, led by the President of Igbo Community Welfare Association, Chief Chris Nnoli, quickly moved to avert the consequences the unverified report could generate.
Aruwan said: “The attention of Kaduna State Government has been drawn to an inciting picture and audio message stating that some Igbos relocating to eastern Nigeria were ambushed and killed in Kaduna State.
“The man behind the mischievous narrative, who also claimed to be at the scene, went on to lie that the attackers slaughtered Igbos, including women and children, and that their corpses were burnt along with the luxurious bus.
“The so-called eyewitness then appealed to all Igbos residing in Kaduna and the rest of the North to relocate to their states of origin and to also avoid travelling en-masse, considering mass killings that await them in the north.
“It is clear that some dark forces are bent on sowing and creating panic in our communities.”On the stand of the state government, Aruwan said: “As you can see, we are here with the leadership of the Igbo community in Kaduna, Zaria, Kafanchan and other places.
“The story is entirely false and mischievous. The Igbo community is safe, like all our communities. Nobody is being attacked and nobody is relocating in fear. “The Kaduna State Government under the leadership of El-Rufai will continue to uphold and defend the rights of every resident of the state to live in peace. Our state is a safe place for all that choose to call it home.”
Besides, Nnoli urged all Igbos resident in the state to disregard the rumour, assuring that no Igbo man, woman or children were attacked in the state. He called on Igbo community in the state not to panic, urging them to go about their legitimate activities in Kaduna State.
Meanwhile, members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) have said unknown gunmen have attacked and amputated a Fulani herdsman, thereby threatening the fragile peace in the area.
Addressing a press conference in Kaduna, yesterday, state Chairman of MACBAN, Alhaji Haruna Usman Tugga, said the attack was a setback to the prevailing peace in the area.Tugga gave the name of the amputee as Abubakar Muhammed, who he noted was migrating from Panda village in Nasarawa State to Kachia in Southern Kaduna when he was attacked by youths from Maho village under Mazuga district.
He stated: “They attacked him along a migratory stock route for reasons best known to the attackers and amputated his left hand and left him bleeding in a pool of his blood. “He was picked by a Good Samaritan to a private hospital in Kachia town, where he is presently receiving medical attention.
“We condemn this inhuman and barbaric act. We are also calling on our people to be calm and law- abiding. We call on the security agencies to investigate the matter and apprehend the attackers.”
As part of efforts to promote religious harmony and peaceful coexistence in the state, the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) Church on Lemu road, Kaduna, has distributed food items to Muslims within their host community in Tudun Nupawa in the spirit of the Ramadan season.
Rev. Jonathan Emmanuel, while making the distribution, said it has always been annual and is normally carried out during the Ramadan period to assist Muslim faithful during their fast.“This is our way of showing love to our neighbours during this period of fasting. We hope to sustain it on a yearly basis, God willing.
“What we are distributing to them may be small, but it is a show of our togetherness and love and as a way of fostering religious harmony and peaceful coexistence.”
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the village head of Tudun Nupawa, Alhaji Shuaibu Balarabe Abdullahi, commended the church for annually remembering them, particularly during the Ramadan fast, with food items.
He prayed God to bless the church and assured them of an enabling environment for them to worship their God now and always without any form of molestation from anybody or group.
