PoliticsRe: There Should Be No Sacred Cows In Anti-graft War – Dogara by lormarx: 2:02pm On Aug 22, 2015
wapSmart:
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has warned that there should be no sacred cow in the ongoing war against corruption being waged by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

While describing corruption as a cancer‎, he cautioned that leaving any of its cells alive will be fatal as it is important to confront corruption in all its ramifications.
In a series of tweets he posted on Thursday, Dogara categorically stated that it will be foolhardy for the country to jail the looters without recovering the chunk of the looted funds.

Catholic Archbishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Hassan Kukah, had after the National Peace Committee met with President Muhammadu Buhari last week, suggesting that past political office holders accused of corruption should be pardoned.

Kukah, who is a member of the Committee chaired by former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), said it would amount to distraction and a waste of time probing past administrations, adding that the present government should be forward looking and meet the needs and aspirations of Nigerians.

But Dogara, in his Twitter posts, disagreed with this position, stressing that, “We must confront corruption in all its ramifications cos it’s like cancer. Leaving any of its cells alive’ll be fatal.‎

“In this total war on corruption, what we say is meaningless.

“It boils down to what we’ll do.

“Read our Legislative Agenda.

“How can we reign in the support of Western Governments not to prosecute those Institutions in the event that they blow the whistle?

“The amount of looted funds stashed abroad is such that it’ll be foolish to just jail the looters without recovering a chunk of it.

“We must be very smart but the total war must go on regardless of who is for or against it and there should be no sacred cow.

“We need to set the goal or purpose of the war against corruption in order to fashion out an appropriate response

“‎For example: do we want our money back or do we simply want to jail the looters?

“These are complex issues with no easy answers,” he tweeted.

I fully support your stand,Nigerian present corruption started from the IBB regime and any genuine fight against corruption must start from there. Any fight less than from there is a witch hut

PoliticsRe: Referendum :should Population Census Hold Come 2016 by lormarx: 8:37am On Jul 10, 2015
bogs4real:
The National Population Commission (NPC) has hinted that the conduct of the population census and head count for all Nigerians scheduled for 2016 might not hold due to poor budgetary allocation.
The NPC however stressed that it is in the power of the masses to decide if the federal government should fund the 2016 census, or it should be suspended till the financial crisis is weathered....Here is a n avenue to share ur opinion if Yes the government must ensure the population count holds or No the count shouldn't hold
Waste of resources, have they ever taken care of those counted before?it's not the numbers that matters this time, but government doin what is right

you will look very foolish to believe that junk story from Nigeria media.

how many of them have a name and a means of livelihood that is not traceable to the state government.

who are this his faceless siblings that we dont see on tv but only hear about in print media.

Muazu sold out and that is a fact. this is the first time a PDP party chairman with all the available resources will lose his local govt to an opposition. Fayose is not the only one accusing him, he is the only bold and fearless of them all and i love him for that.
If we hv more Fayose's in PDP,PDP would hv been stronger and more formidable

I disagree!

What exactly do you mean by "progress" or "growth"? Those terms are nebulous, without defining exactly what you value. But values vary from culture to culture.

The Op did a good job of highlighting the challenges we face with our diversity. There's no way you can peacefully coexist with your hosts if you are contemptuous of their culture and aspirations!
so what have culture and value got in a tribal leader making a statement about a specific entity. The igbo's are not the only tribe living in lagos, plz make Nigerian's understand

PoliticsRe: Even Obama Was Reminded - A Response To Chimamanda by lormarx: 10:41am On Apr 11, 2015
emonkey:
I really never like to read political articles by celebrity artists , because they tend to be nothing more than political articles by celebrity artists. The truth is that it is the job of an artist to be unrealistic ; that is what they are good at and that is what they are celebrated for - their excellent ability to lose connection with reality. One thing that becomes clear from the episode of the altercation between Oba of Lagos and Ibos is that the Ibos actually believe that communities are built on commerce and therefore carry this attitude wherever they go. And that is why they get into trouble wherever they go.
I can only speak for Yoruba as Chimamanda can only speak for Ibo people. I know that we built our communities on enduring values which Ibos seem unable to comprehend. We built our communities on honesty, trust, kings and gods- multiples of them, many being our elevated ancestral heroes. If you are not Yoruba it is easy for you to trample on these values - especially if you have decided not to care . It will be infuriating for us to watch you trample over those values on the basis of your claim that "I can do anything anywhere in Nigeria because I am Nigerian". Yes you theoretically can but a man who dances out of synch to a music he does not understand will look like nothing else but a madman. When you have many madmen on the loose in your house and dancing to their own mad music, the community should panic.
Is it true that being Nigerian qualifies you to take anything from anywhere in Nigeria ? If you believe so, you may not be better than just any other terrorist. Chimamanda may put her argument on the basis of " what is done in civilised Western countries". But the fact is that we have more complex political structures in our many tribal communities , and they are the strings which keep us from falling apart culturally. It is for our own good that they must remain there. Citizenship does not anywhere empower you to do as wish without being questioned. Even Obama got reminded of his Kenyan roots as he strived to become president of USA. And for those like Chimamanda who live outside Nigeria, they are never foolish enough not to know that , no matter how long you, a Nigerian , have stayed in another country and you may even have become a citizen, a day is coming that an event will make you wish that you never left your country. The same applies with Nigerians living away from their cultural roots even inside Nigeria - always have it with you that you do not have a place of rest. Lagos is not no man's land , Kano is not no man's land . Enugu is not no man's land. They were founded on distinct cultural values of original settlers. To offend those values will be locally considered a great deal of disrespect .
The problem with people like Chimamanda is that she probably believes that people who either have not attained, do not understand, or do not care about her position, posture and values are unintelligent illiterates. It is always the sad message we get from our narrow-minded literary icons. Please let us be sensitive to the feelings of other people. Politics and creative writing are not very compatible .
It's because of people wit little minds like you that have hindered the growth and progress of Nigeria

Why are they even returning it sef when its not like it wont be restolen.
Robbing Abacha and family to pay d current looters. My question is ,why is it only Abacha's loot that are followed and returned to Nigeria?is Abacha the only one that have looted Nigerian wealth, or are the others above the law. The international community should commit more time and effort to expose other looters. We have more looters in Government today than in the Abacha era. Thanks
