SportsRe: Amodu: I Almost Turned Down Eagles Job by lormarx: 12:57am On Oct 26, 2014
solbase10:
Super Eagles’ interim coach Amodu Shuaibu has revealed that he almost turned down the job but had to accept after he was convinced by NFF boss Pinnick Amaju to tinker the team in the remaining two AFCON qualifiers. He spoke with RICHARD JIDEAKA

Was it a difficult task for you accepting to handle Super Eagles last two AFCON qualifying matches as caretaker coach?

First and foremost, my reaction to the news of my coming back to handle the national team was a kind of surprise to me. Surprise in the sense that I have been disconnected from football coaching at the national team level for the past four years and hearing that the NFF wanted me as interim coach was a big surprise.

So, I was the last person I expected to be called for this job. The first thing that came to my mind was to say outright no. The reason why I thought about saying outright no was to make serious efforts to see how we can avert the removal of my colleague, (Stephen Keshi) from this job because he has only two games remaining in the qualifiers.

What is your view on the removal of Keshi from the national team with just two games to go?

My reason for this is that I believe it was not all over for the team. And that if we were patient enough for him to probably finish this job, we could still qualify and at that level, we would have been able to appraise him (Keshi) properly. But it looks like superior reasoning overtook my sentiment. But the decision was taken after I made serious efforts to see if the situation would be salvaged. Unfortunately, it was deeper from what I can see from outside.

Do you see the assignment as a difficult one?

I wanted to have a mental picture of what the job is all about before accepting to handle the remaining two matches of the 2015 Afcon qualifiers. I made my condition very clear to the NFF that if I were to accept the job for the remaining two matches; we must appreciate where we are coming from. And as a professional, I thought I was going to be close to the technical department where I was assigned to man for over a year now though without the necessary instrument of office to perform in the first place anyway.

How are you going to prosecute the two matches?

The NFF President Amaju Pinnick assured me of total support and I know he is a man of honour. So, I let him go out with the announcement. As I speak to you now, I am not going to dwell on controversies. My plan is to meet with my technical team to see how we can fashion out plans that will be suitable to prosecute these two matches.

Will Nigeria qualify for the Nations Cup?

At the end of the day what is important to me, my crew and all Nigerians is to see how we can salvage the situation and get the required results that will see us qualify.

Will you work with Keshi’s template in the area of players’ selection?

We have just met with the NFF technical department and they made our job easy by providing a list of 60 players to select from. I will sit with my technical crew and see those who are in good form for invitation. There is no way we can overhaul the Super Eagles within one month. Keshi’s team is made up of some of the best players the country can boast off so we’ll give them a chance to prove themselves.

Are we likely to see the return of Ike Uche in the team?

To be frank with you, I will give Ike Uche a call this night to commend him for scoring 100 goals in La Liga. He is doing well and if he remains in such good form, he surely will be recalled.

What is your term of contract as the interim coach?

To tell you the truth, I have not discussed the terms of the assignment with the FA. I believe that the NFF chieftains will give us what we deserve. Money is not the issue here but patriotism.

SportsRe: Nigeria Is Not A Serious Football Country - Keshi by lormarx:
oyinkanolu:
The Former Coach of the Super Eagles |Stephen Keshi| has thrown a parting shot at Nigerian
football, saying the country should stop seeing itself as a serious football nation considering it
is still lagging behind in many vital areas needed to attain such levels.

In a chat with ESPN football pundit Colin Udoh, the former Togo and former Mali manager noted,
for instance, that but for his intervention, the Akwa Ibom State governor was planning to lay
artificial grass on the newly built world-class Uyo Stadium. That venue will host the decisive
clash of the Super Eagles with South Africa next month.

“How many good pitches do we have in this country? Keshi queried. We say we are a football
nation and we don't even have good training pitches for the national team, or good field to play
on. Instead, there are artificial pitches everywhere, even the new Stadium in Uyo, it was when I
heard from the governor that they wanted to use artificial pitch that I had to shout and tell him no
way. That is how they used natural grass pitch there. But why should I be the one to say it? Where
are the journalists?”

He said he was proud of his achievements during his spell as Nigeria’s manager.

“People keep saying I drew a lot of matches. But how many Nigerian coaches agreed to play
friendly matches all the time. Or to use home-based players without fear but people don't see that.

Every time it's Keshi this and Keshi that. Then they say I always try to use the President against
them. President that I cannot even see!”

He also said he was happy that the drama was finally over, as was his family.

“I am not bitter. I'm just disappointed in some of you,” he pointed out, referring to journalists.
“Now people can stop talking about Keshi.”

Meanwhile, the Ethiopian Football Association, responding to reports that Keshi would be in the
country this week to finalise a contract to take over their National team, has denied ever
approaching Keshi or getting any application from him

Emmysteve:
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in the early hours of Thursday have announced the contract termination of Coach Stephen Keshi as the Super Eagles head coach.

After a long hours meeting of the Executive board members held at the Transcrop hilton hotel in Abuja the board unanimously agreed to part away with the Big Boss and his technical crew.

Speaking with cross section of the press shortly after the meeting at 1am Nigeria time on Thursday, first vice President of the Federation, Barr. Seyi Akinwunmi said the Federation appreciated Keshi and will give due support to him and his technical crew.
“You could recall Keshi and his technical crew
contract expired after the World cup, and the federation have decided not to renew their contract,” Akinwunmi revealed.

“The Federation appreciated his effort for the success he achieved and the development of our football.
“We have decided to sponsor him and his technical crew (Daniel Amokachi and Ike Shoromu) to any choice of their coaching school to acquire for more knowledge in the game at our expenses,” Akinwunmi said.

Former Niger Tornadoes player, Shaibu Amodu returns as the team interim coach to be assisted with three coaches from the Glo Premier League.
“We have two more important matches in the
qualifiers which we hope to secure full points, and qualify for the Nations Cup.

“Coach Amodu will take over of the team as interim coach, to be assisted by Salisu Yusuf (El Kanemi Warriors) and Gbenga Ogunbote (Sharks FC) while former Green Eagles goalkeeper, Alloy Agu will be the goalkeeper trainer,” the NFF official divulge.

Super Eagles will travel next month to face
Congo and host South Africa in Nigeria in the last phase of the qualifiers.

etunoman76:
Again, coach Stephen Keshi has said that he has several countries waiting to hire him should he be asked to quit by Nigeria.

Keshi has come under heavy criticisms as his team have recorded a mere point from an available nine in the AFCON 2015 qualifiers.

The former Eagles captain, who is on the job without a contract, told AfricanFootball.com, “It’s not about the game, it’s about other personal stuff. So, if tomorrow they say Keshi leave, there is no shaking because other two, three countries are waiting (for me).

“My job is about hire and fire.

“Right now I have been to other places I have coached before I have not been fired. If it comes down to Nigeria, I have been here before, qualified Nigeria for 2002 World Cup with Amodu Shaibu, we were asked to leave.”

Keshi has also handled Togo and Mali.

And recently his agent claimed oil-rich Gabon, Angola and Equatorial Guinea have tabled offers for him. The Nigerian coach has said many times that he had offers and Nigerians are bewildered why he has not taken any of the several offers rather than hanging on with the Nigerian team without a contract.

Dangote To Invest $12b In Nigerian Economy

https://businessnews.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Dangote-Aliko.jpg

The President, Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote has said he will invest $12bn in Nigeria’s economy.

This was contained in a statement felicitating with Muslims on the Sallah celebration. He expressed his firm belief in the Nigerian economy.

He said that of the $12b, $2.3 billion would be invested in sugar and rice production in Adamawa State to create about 180,000 jobs and combat terrorism in the North-East.

He said that the Nigerian atmosphere is good for business and that he wouldn't have invested in the country if he didn’t believe that.

While wishing all Muslims a spiritually rewarding festival, Dangote described the current situation in the country as a passing phase. He urged Nigerians not to allow themselves to be overwhelmed by despair but to be determined and courageous.

“It is high time Nigerians rededicated themselves and maintained the virtues, without which the country would continue to wander hopelessly, ” he added.

PoliticsRe: 2015: Oshiomhole To Vie For APC Presidential Ticket by lormarx: 8:44pm On Sep 21, 2014
ruggedboy01: •Number of aspirants increase as Buhari, Atiku,
Okorocha, Kwankwaso, Saraki battle for slot
GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State is
warming up to join the 2015 presidential race.
He is expected to slug it out with former Vice-
President Atiku Abubakar, Senator Bukola Saraki,
Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano), and Governor
Rochas Okorocha (Imo) as well as former military
Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari for the
ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Gen. Buhari and Senator Bukola Saraki, are yet to
officially declare their interest in the contest.
More members of the party may show interest in due
course, according to party sources.
Governor Oshiomhole, it was gathered, has already
completed consultations at home and abroad on his
aspiration.
He was in the United Kingdom and the United States
of America (USA) recently as part of the
consultations.
He is said to have received encouragement to join
the race from friends, including foreigners who have
followed his switch from labour to politics and
governance.
His backers are convinced that Oshiomhole stands a
good chance of making it to Aso Rock Villa since the
PDP has conceded its own ticket slot to President
Goodluck Jonathan from the Southsouth.
They are of the view that the choice of Oshiomhole
might serve as a counter-balancing force to Jonathan
in the zone should the APC concede the slot to the
Southsouth.
But there is a snag: the recent election of Chief John
Odigie-Oyegun from the same zone as the party’s
National Chairman.
A source familiar with the development said
Oshiomhole has been “looking at the larger picture
and not geopolitical calculation.”
“The comrade governor, is considering the need for a
leader to salvage the nation rather than any other
calculation,” the source said.
“This is why he has been meeting with leaders at
home and abroad on his aspiration and how to
rescue the nation. He has concluded consultations
and he is of the strong opinion that he should vie for
the office.
“The governor is interested in the presidential race.
He will make his intention known soon. As a former
labour leader, he believes he has a bigger
constituency to lead the APC to victory in 2015 if he
gets the ticket.
“The governor will make a declaration as soon as the
APC releases the guidelines in line with INEC’s
timetable.”
The governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Prince
Kassim Afegbua, confirmed the interest of his boss in
the Presidency.
He said: “This has always been our interest because
some of us would not want the Comrade Governor to
squander his enormous political capital across the
country without giving a shot at the highest office in
the land. He has tremendous courage, brilliance and
capacity to contend with developmental issues in the
country; ingredients that are presently needed to
provide problem-solving leadership at the center.
“Give it to this great former Labour leader that he is
one Nigerian who believes so much in the unity of
the country and is ready to go to any length to
preserve that unity.
“Nigerians need a leader like Comrade Oshiomhole
at this time to galvanize all the centrifugal and
centripetal forces into a national aspiration to lift the
country from its present prostrate state to some kind
of Olympian height in a clear headed attempt to earn
our cherished position amongst nations of the
world.”
He added, “He will wait for the party to blow the
whistle but he will test his presidential participation
through the primaries. It will be our hope that the
members of the APC consider him worthy of this
noble cause in the build-up to the 2015 elections. To
answer your question, yes, he will contest.”

EducationRe: Oyedepo Defends Fees Charged By Private Universities by lormarx: 8:36pm On Sep 21, 2014
Endougs: President and founder of the Living Faith Church aka Winners Chapel Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, has defended what many consider to be the exorbitant tuition fees charged by the church’s schools, describing the provision of quality education as an expensive venture.

Oyedepo defended the fees while addressing journalists on Friday in Ota, Ogun State, at a media chat organised as part of activities to celebrate his 60th birthday coming up on September 27, 2014.

Private schools, especially faith-based ones in the country, including Covenant and Landmark universities, owned by the church, are often criticised for being too expensive for average Nigerians to afford.

But the popular cleric highlighted some of the church’s humanitarian programmes which include providing scholarships and bursary awards to assist disadvantaged and brilliant students.

He said, “I’m sure we all agree that education is expensive. Education carries cost; nothing of value is free. Our mission for years long, before we started any university or secondary school, was a bursary awarding church and we have not stopped doing that till tomorrow”.

Oyedepo said that the church was committed to providing quality education to youths, adding that many Nigerians complain about the cost of education in private universities because they have got their priorities misplaced.

Our problem most of the time is priority; an average Nigerian can spend N1m on burial but to spend N200,000 on education (is a problem), because of wrong priority.

On a yearly basis, we have N1.5trn that Nigerians spend to overseas universities, so people thrive on it. Nigerians spend N463bn a month on recharge cards, how much are they paying for schools fees? So it’s all a matter of priority. This is the largest market for telephone in the world. Now, to pay N500,000, some people have only one son, they have huge business and houses all over the places, they will never pay it”.

Speaking further, Oyedepo, who seems to have developed thick skin to many controversial reports about him on the social media, revealed that it is a waste of time to respond to his critics.

He said, “My understanding of opposition, persecution is simply someone’s opinion harshly expressed. Everybody has a right to his opinion. Today, millions follow after Christ but you will be surprised that when you get to Israel some people do not believe that Christ has come.

“People have rights to their opinions. I naturally don’t feel it’s necessary (to respond). The energy I would need to react, I can use it to make moves. I have enough to think about than start running after a man who says you are a fool.

“If he says you are a fool and you are behaving so, then he’s right. If you leave your job and start pursuing somebody who says you are a fool, he has already said so, your going around doesn’t change it. So why going around, why don’t you settle on your job and make moves?

“I’ve also come to understand that those who make news hardly watch them, they are so busy making news while others are busy watching”.
Asked about the challenges he has faced in life and in his ministry, Oyedepo said he had never focused on his challenges but rather, has been fuelled by them.

He said, “Life essentially is full of challenges, it is those challenges that make champions. You can’t emerge a heavy weight boxing champion except you receive punches. You can’t change classes in school except you write exams.

“So to me, life is an adventure in challenges and I’ve said often that it is normal to be challenged but it’s unscriptural to be defeated. Challenges are the stepping stones for the making of champions”.

In 1981, at the age of 27, Oyedepo, who would later become a household name in Nigeria and beyond, started his ministry in Ilorin, Kwara State and sited his first church two years later in Kaduna State.

At the media chat, he said that the church, which had humble beginnings, is now located in 63 countries in the world and that the Faith Tabernacle, Ota, where he is the presiding Bishop, plays host to “over 200,000 worshippers every Sunday morning in four services”.

NYSCRe: NYSC Defends Online Registration by lormarx: 6:09am On Sep 16, 2014
femmefatale: The National Youth Service Corps has said the online registration it introduced for the mobilisation of corps members is meant to eradicate the problems that
graduates pass through in obtaining call-up letters from their institutions.
The board’s spokesperson, Mrs. Olubunmi Aderibigbe, in a statement on Monday said the initiative was also
made to save potential corps members from untimely death that could be occasioned by the security challenges in some states. She also argued that the process would prevent the forgery of call up letters. Aderibigbe said, “The attention of the board of the NYSC has been drawn to some reports which suggest a misunderstanding of the online registration for the mobilisation of corps members and the rationale
behind it. We hasten to say that the whole idea is not only noble but is indeed designed in the best interest
of the corps members. “Given the security challenge in some states of the
federation and the observed cumbersome process of collection of call-up letters in most institutions, the
idea was conceived to remove all impediments that make the mobilisation process a nightmare for the
graduates. We saw no need why any graduate should have to travel hundreds of kilometres with all the associated risks, just to collect his or her call-up letter. By registering online, the idea that any unscrupulous official could make the process of collection of call-up
letter difficult for corps members will also be eliminated.” Aderibigbe added that the scheme would afford foreign trained Nigerian graduates to have a seamless opportunity to participate in national service as the barrier of distance had been eliminated. “The online registration will also create a more reliable platform for storage and retrieval of data for participating graduates, removal of the excruciating
registration experiences in camps for both corps members and officials, provision of back-up services for the NYSC Integrated system and provision of Web-based NYSC Integrated System Software covering prospective corps members registration, mobilisation,
deployment and the provision of web-based finger-print software interface for verification,” she added.
