davien:God simply has no beginning. Time exists in the mind while eternity is above our understanding. Besides I never knew there were so many atheists on nairaland ![]() |
asala1:Exactly!!! |
FrancisTony:very funny...SMH but I went through your profile and discovered that you are a catholic. Or are you now an atheist? |
asala1:God never started to exist, he has always been. In his existence there is no begining because he existed before time. There are a lot of mysteries we humans do not understand yet. At least not while on earth |
johnydon22:Please go back to the first point I gave which was explained with the idea of motion. Study it criticaly and you will answer your question by yourself |
DProDG:Nothing can come out of nothing. The same case applies to the universe. Please note that the universe exists in time and space. Before the beginning of the universe, time was reset to zero, meaning that there was no past, no future nor even a present. This is the realm God exists in. I am very sure you cannot imagine a situation were time did not exist because it is beyond human understanding. Time in its philosophical sense was created by God along with the universe, A superior being without a begining. Like I said, beyond human understanding |
undercat:what exactly is your point?? |
What real evidence can be supplied for God's existence? St. Thomas, in his Summa Theologica, sets forth five separate proofs for the existence of God, Unlike St. Anselm's proof, which deals with pure concepts, St. Thomas' proofs rely on the world of our experience-what we can see around us. In these proofs we can easily see the influence of Aristotle and his doctrine of the Four Causes. l) The Proof from Motion. We observe motion all around us. Whatever is in motion now was at rest until moved by something else, and that by something else, and so on. But if there were an infinite series of movers, all waiting to be moved by something else, then actual motion could never have got started, and there would be no motion now. But there is motion now. So there must be a First Mover which is itself unmoved. This First Mover we call God. 2) The Proof from Efficient Cause. Everything in the world has its efficient cause--its maker-- and that maker has its maker, and so on. The coffee table was made by the carpenter, the carpenter by his or her parents, and on and on. But if there were just an infinite series of such makers, the series could never have got started, and therefore be nothing now. But there is something everything there is! So there must have been a First Maker, that was not itself made, and that First Maker we call God. 3) The Proof from Necessary vs. Possible Being. Possible, or contingent, beings are those, such as cars and trees and you and I, whose existence is not necessary. For all such beings there is a time before they come to be when they are not yet, and a time after they cease to be when they are no more. If everything were merely possible, there would have been a time, long ago, when nothing had yet come to be. Nothing comes from nothing, so in that case there would be nothing now! But there is something now-the world and everything in it-so there must be at least one necessary being. This Necessary Being we call God. 4) The Proof from Degrees of Perfection. We all evaluate things and people in terms of their being more or less perfectly true, good, noble and so on. We have certain standards of how things and people should be. But we would have no such standards unless there were some being that is perfect in every way, something that is the truest, noblest, and best. That Most Perfect Being we call God. 5) The Proof from Design. As we look at the world around us, and ourselves, we see ample evidence of design--the bird's wing, designed for the purpose of flight; the human ear, designed for the purpose of hearing; the natural environment, designed to support life; and on and on. If there is design, there must be a designer. That Designer we call God |
President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday formally received the report of forensic auditors engaged to carry out a detailed investigation into the activities of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. An accounting firm, PriceWaterHouse, was last year hired to carry out the exercise following an allegation by the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Lamido Sanusi, that $20bn was not remitted to the Federation Account by the NNPC. Sanusi, who is now the Emir of Kano, had written a letter to Jonathan that $49bn was not remitted to the Federation Account by the NNPC. But following the controversy which the letter generated, a committee was set up to reconcile the account. Sanusi later recanted and said the unremitted fund was $12bn. He later again changed the figure to $20bn. The Nigeria Country Senior Partner of PriceWaterHouse, Uyi Akpata, on Monday presented the report to the President on behalf of the firm saying, “It is a privilege for us to have carried out this exercise on behalf of the government and I hope that you will find this report useful.” Akpata did not give any insight into the forensic report. In accepting the report however, Jonathan noted that the media and indeed Nigeria would be interested in the findings. To this end, he directed the Auditor-General of the Federation to study the report and make the key highlights public within the week. He said, “There has been so much of controversy over this NNPC and leakages or no leakages. I remember the Senate has also looked into it, it is also good that you professionals have also looked into it. “What appears in the papers and the speculations is also very high, the figures that I cannot even imagine the country will make is being bandied in the newspapers. “So, I am quite pleased that you have undertaken the forensic audit. Though it is voluminous, I will give it to the professionals. “In government work, there are people that have the statutory responsibilities to handle such assignment which is the Auditor-General of the Federation. “So, the Auditor-General will look at it and within the week, let us have key highlights because the media will want to know the key findings vis-a-vis the Senate’s findings and figures being bandied around in the newspapers.” |
Good day ladies and Gentlemen. Let's go straight to the point. For God's sake, what excuse do Christians have to justify sex outside marriage? (fornication). O yes...now, people don't like to use the word fornication (may be due to guilty conscience), instead, you hear newly furnished words like *Bleep*. But it is boldly written in the bible :1 Corinthians 6:18-20 Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body Another : 1 Corinthians 6:9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals. So ladies and gentlemen, what do you have to say? |

Gunmen have shot dead 12 people at the Paris office of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in an apparent militant Islamist attack. Four of the magazine's well-known cartoonists, including its editor, were among those killed, as well as two police officers. A major police operation is under way to find three gunmen who fled by car. President Francois Hollande said there was no doubt it had been a terrorist attack "of exceptional barbarity". It is believed to be the deadliest attack in France since 1961, when right-wingers who wanted to keep Algeria French bombed a train, killing 28 people. The masked attackers opened fire with assault rifles in the office and exchanged shots with police in the street outside before escaping by car. They later abandoned the car in Rue de Meaux, northern Paris, where they hijacked a second car. Witnesses said they heard the gunmen shouting "We have avenged the Prophet Muhammad" and "God is Great" in Arabic (Allahu Akbar) The number of attackers was initially reported to be two, but French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve later said security services were hunting three "criminals". He said that Paris had been placed on the highest alert. Charlie Hebdo editor Stephane Charbonnier, 47, had received death threats in the past and was living under police protection. French media have named the three other cartoonists killed in the attack as Cabu, Tignous and Wolinski, as well as Charlie Hebdo contributor and French economist Bernard Maris. The attack took place during the magazine's daily editorial meeting. At least four people were critically wounded in the attack. The satirical weekly has courted controversy in the past with its irreverent take on news and current affairs. It was firebombed in November 2011 a day after it carried a caricature of the Prophet Muhammad. source: m.bbc.com/news/world-europe-30710883 |

1. Forget failure Ah, yes, the dark side of academic judgement. In school we’re taught to avoid failure, and some people will stoop to nearly unspeakable levels to not fail. Cheating, copying, and other means of deception are used as a result of the unfair stigma put around failing. Contrary to popular belief, the act of failing is where the majority of growth occurs. Entrepreneurs and business people are well aware of and well acquainted with failure. They are not afraid to experience it, and they quickly learn and move on after they fall flat on their face. Arianna Huffington epitomizes this resolve. Her first major failure came when her second book was rejected by 36 publishing houses . Do you think those places wish they still had a chance to accept the work of someone who created one of America’s leading online news aggregates? 2. Take action despite fear Everyone has fear. No matter how cocky, confident, or sure someone may seem, they are afraid. They are afraid of failure, rejection, and pain just like everyone else. How great leaders differ is the ability to take action despite that fear. Once they are in action, they are often too busy and occupied to worry anymore. Scott Adams, creator of the Dilbert comic strips, once perfectly summed this step up: “I go into most risky projects (and those are the type I prefer) with two contradictory thoughts: one, this sort of thing is unlikely to succeed and two, this will totally succeed.” 3. Planning is great, but don’t overlook right now A large part of our current education system relies on an unhealthy obsession with the future. Even if it’s not direct, like a high school senior looking for colleges to attend, each schoolgirl and boy is planning for the future with every test aced or every subject flunked. This breeds, again, a fixed mindset that’s detrimental to progress and applicable growth. Instead of worrying about getting into Yale, worry about getting one answer at a time correct on the next homework assignment. Value the journey over the destination. Businessman Peter Drucker teaches us the importance of not looking too deep into the future, and staying dedicated to taking the appropriate steps in the now: “The best way to predict the future is to create it.” 4. Don’t be afraid to ask a question There is always that one girl or guy in the front row who asks something every time there’s an opportunity, but they obviously have no issue with speaking in public. Some people experience a paralysis when asking a question in class. For those who truly don’t understand something, speak up. This problem exists in the workplace, too. Far too many workers are confused or even under appreciated because of their inability to speak up and add input. The best in the business feel they deserve to be heard, and their questions are worthwhile and valid. So are yours. 5. If you believe it’s worth doing, it is Our schooling system dictates, for the most part, what you have to learn. This, sadly, leaves us unable to truly peruse the things we’re passionate about because we’re shackled to a curriculum dictated by the school. The most brilliant and successful people in this world focused and honed their passions. Thomas Edison, who failed countless times and was almost killed by scarlet fever at a young age, wouldn’t allow his passion and vision for inventions die. He went after it no matter what it took (1,000 some odd tries before the lightbulb). The same goes for you, who needn’t seek validation from anyone but you. If you think something is cool, or a career is interesting, or a project is engaging, go for it. Forget about those who won’t back you up. They don’t matter anyway. 6. Patience, Iago A lot of teachers are really great at super responsive feedback, but that too can be a hindrance. It establishes an expectation for instant results, which isn’t conducive to success in the business world. Things happen slowly. They happen so slowly, that the main reason people give up on almost any endeavor in almost every aspect of life is because of the sluggish pace of dreams. They threw in the towel when they moved in inch in a year, when they expected a mile. To piggyback on the second point above, this, too, comes from fixating on the future. Successful people don’t focus only on the end, but also how far they’ve come. Jim Carrey and his family, for instance, were once so poor that they were living out of a van to keep food in their stomachs. If Jim didn’t have the patience and belief that one day he’d be a great comedian, we’d have never seen his genius shine. 7. See greatness in others, not just the mirror In school we loathe working in groups, and are geared to focus only on our own performance. There might be a misconception that smart and successful business people are inherently selfish. While there my be a few examples of these in corporate offices across the nation, don’t let a few bad eggs spoil the whole carton. The most talented are also usually well liked because of their ability to help others shine brightly. They can easily recognize a hard worker, a hustler, and someone who lives life with a lot of passion. What’s more, successful people always help others look better than themselves. They don’t take all the credit, they do not steal the ideas of others, and they certainly do not back stab or step on others to get what they want. Dale Carnegie is the prime example of a successful entrepreneur who evokes and promotes camaraderie in the workplace through his best selling novel, How to Win Friends and Influence People. Our formal schooling taught us many beneficial things, but there’s alwaysmore to discover and sponge up in our journey to achieve greatness. With the steps listed above you will be well on your way to learning the essential things that were unfortunately skipped in school. The closing bell may signify the end of a scheduled school day, but not the end of your learning. |

Mehn I'm tired of naija...u sure say e go better?? |
I came accross this and consisered it cool to share this with someone. Prof. Abletor Sedofia. "Academic excellence is overrated! Did I just say that? Oh, yes, I said it. Being top of your class does not necessarily guarantee that you will be at the top of life. You could graduate as the best student in Finance but it doesn't mean you will make more money than everybody else. The best graduating Law student does not necessarily become the best lawyer. The fact is life requires more than the ability to understand a concept, memorise it and reproduce it in an exam. School rewards people for their memory. Life rewards people for their imagination. School rewards caution, life rewards daring. School hails those who live by the rules. Life exalts those who break the rules and set new ones. So do I mean people shouldn't study hard in school? Oh, no, you should. But don't sacrifice every other thing on the altar of First Class. Don't limit yourself to the classroom. Do something practical. Take a leadership position. Start a business and fail. That's a better Entrepreneurship 101. Join or start a club. Contest an election and lose. It will teach something Political Science 101 will not teach you. Attend a seminar. Read books outside the scope of your course. Go on missions and win a soul for eternal rewards... Do something you believe in! Think less of becoming an excellent student but think more of becoming an excellent person. Make the world your classroom! |

MOSCOW (AP) -- A Russian soccer coach who said he would not sign ''dark-skinned players'' received a five-game ban Wednesday for racial discrimination. The punishment is the strongest sanction for racism handed out to a player or coach by the Russian Football Union. Igor Gamula told Russian journalists last month that FC Rostov had ''enough dark- skinned players'' and ''we've got six of the things'' when asked in post-match news conference about rumors the club would sign a Cameroon defender. He also made what he called a ''joke'' about the Ebola virus. Gamula, who holds Russian and Ukrainian nationality, apologized three days later after Rostov's African players threatened to go on strike. The city of Rostov will host World Cup matches in 2018. source https://m.yahoo.com/w/legobpengine/sports/news/russian-coach-gets-5-game-ban-racist-comments-184401875--sow.html?orig_host_hdr=sports.yahoo.com&.intl=us&.lang=en-US&_device=tablet |
