Police claim 19 year old Smith was taking selfies at his apartment on Tuesday when the gun accidentally went off.“It’s the worst feeling in my life,” Eric Douglas, the victim’s uncle said.“It’s a numb feeling. It’s still unbelievable,” Smith’s grandmother Alma Douglas said. “Yesterday was my birthday and he came to wish me happy birthday, and then to hear this kind of news.”According to Houston police, the man didn’t know the gun was loaded.“According to a witness, the victim was handling a gun he believed to be unloaded. The gun then discharged and the victim was struck in the upper body. The investigation is continuing, with no charges filed at this time.”Smith had found the gun and was taking pictures of himself with it. His cousin was in anther room when the shot was fired.“It’s just crazy how somebody could be here one minute, and in a second they’re gone,” said one family member. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
