Romance › Bauchi Sex Party: Hisbah Arrests Organizers by LoveTalk(op): 7:33am On Jan 27, 2021 |
The Bauchi state Hisbah says it recently arrested no fewer than six youths who specialized in organizing sex orgies and fomenting trouble in Dolam village, in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of the state.
Malam Aminu Idris, the permanent commissioner in-charge of Hisbah and Sharia implementation, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi, on Monday.
Idris, who identified the culprits as Abdurrauf Kabir, 25, Dabo Yusuf, 26, Abdurrazak Isah, 24, Habu Umar, 27, Yaron Nuhu-Maikaji, 30, and Abdurrashid Shehu, 31, said they were using a primary school building in the area to commit the act.
He said the culprits were in the habit of organizing disco parties, locally called Gwaidu, during which they lured young girls into illicit sexual relationships, while at times they used force to intimidate innocent people.
Idris said the attention of his department was drawn by the local Hisbah office in the area, after which the office swung into action and arrested all those involved.
After discreet investigations, the commissioner said, the state Hisbah office summoned the parents of the culprits, counselled them and made them sign an undertaking against repeating the offence.
Idris said the Hisbah department would, henceforth, not hesitate to prosecute such culprits in a competent court of law, stressing, ”as a Lawyer I will do everything possible to ensure that our existing laws were not flagrantly violated”.
He appealed to the state government to hasten the appointment of the state Hisbah Board, as well as provide additional financial and logistics support to the department to enable it to perform optimally.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that only recently, the Hisbah department also confiscated and destroyed no fewer than 885 cartons of liquor, as part of its efforts to implement Sharia law in the state. (NAN) https://www.vanguardngr.com/2021/01/hisbah-arrests-organizers-of-sex-party-in-bauchi/

Politics › INEC To Make NIN Compulsory For Voter Registration by LoveTalk(op): 11:28am On Jan 20, 2021 |
The Independent National Electoral Commission is considering making the National Identity Number a precondition for registering voters when the continuous voter registration exercise commences in a few weeks, The PUNCH has learnt.
A national commissioner at INEC disclosed this during an interview with The PUNCH on Tuesday. He said the NIN would help tackle challenges of underage voting, alien voting and other challenges associated with registration.
The national commissioner, who wished to remain anonymous because he was not authorised to speak, said a final decision would soon be reached.
The INEC official explained that the permanent voter card was only supposed to be in use for a maximum of 10 years, adding that most countries rely on a national database and not the Permanent Voter Card for voting.
He said, "The NIN is the ideal. When we want to begin the continuous voter registration, we may consider it because ordinarily, a national identity card is what should be used for voting. When the PVC was introduced, it was meant to be in use for 10 years and the assumption was that within those 10 years, the national identity card would be in use by a majority of Nigerians.
“I can tell you that the NIN will be one of the preconditions for registration when the CVR starts. We are trying to harmonise all databases.”
When contacted on the telephone, the Director, Voter Education and Publicity, INEC , Nick Dazang, said he could not say for sure if the NIN would be a precondition for registration, adding that meetings were still ongoing.
He said once a final decision had been made, INEC would officially inform Nigerians.
When asked if the NIN would be made compulsory for new registrants, Dazang said, “ When we reach the bridge, we will cross it. For now, we have not announced the date for the registration exercise to begin and the conditionality. When we are ready, the commission will announce the procedure for the continuous voter registration so the commission has not taken a decision in respect of that.”
The INEC director said the commission was also looking at how to ensure that the registration is done amid the raging COVID -19 pandemic.
INEC has not registered any Nigerian in over two years, a development which civil society groups have criticised.
The commission had announced in November that the registration exercise would begin in the first quarter of 2021. Several government organisations have made the NIN a precondition for obtaining documents.
The Nigeria Immigration Service had in 2019 made the NIN a precondition for obtaining a passport while the National Examination Council and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board said recently that only persons with their NINs would be eligible to sit for exams.
The Federal Road Safety Commission also said recently that persons applying for driving licences must possess their NINs. The demand for the NINs by government agencies has forced thousands of Nigerians to gather at enrolment centres of the National Identity Management Commission in flagrant disregard of COVID -19 protocols. https://punchng.com/inec-planning-to-make-nin-compulsory-for-voter-registration/

Romance › Lady Sues Adamawa Pastor For Deceiving Her With Marriage Promises by LoveTalk(op): 7:36am On Jan 20, 2021 |
ONE week after the police in Adamawa State detained two Pentecostal pastors in connection with alleged infidelity leading to bearing of two children, another female evangelist, Kwanye Tumba, has dragged the Pastor of House Chapel in Karewa, Yola North LGA of the state to Criminal Area Court II for alleged refusal to marry her.
Evangelist Kwanye told Honourable Nuhu Musa Garta-led court that the 28-year-old pastor, Marwa Tumba, had promised to marry her, but dumped her for another girl after squandering her hard earned money and wasted her life.
She told the court that she first met the man of God after a prayer meeting at Yolde Pate, a suburb of Yola South LGA in 2019, during which he told her that he saw a vision that she got a husband.
According to her, Pastor Marwa informed her that she is now his wife and immediately he asked her to start “sowing a seed”.
Explaining that she started “sowing a seed” as requested by the pastor by giving him the sum of N1,000.
She said that the man sometimes later visited her in her apartment which she built when she was working with a non-governmental organisation, adding that she welcomed him, cooked food for him and from there, they started their relationship with a promise that he would marry her as seen in the vision.
Evangelist Kwanye narrated that her pastor boyfriend later told her to resign from her job and sell her house before getting married, and that she agreed and tendered her resignation letter and sold the house at #500,000.
According to her, when the money of the house was paid to her, she immediately transferred the sum of #50,000 as tithe into the account of the pastor and used the remaining money to support the church from time to time until all the money got finished.
She told the court that it got to a time that he asked her to give him the list of all items as provided by tradition for their marriage, which she did.
The complainant told the court that the last thing he did was to ask her to go to her parents in Michika and wait for him, promising to join her later for a proper introduction and arrangement for marriage.
She added that she spent many days in the village without him coming to do introduction as he promised, saying when her parents discovered that it was a lie, they asked her to leave their house.
According to her, since then, he was no longer picking her calls again and when she got tired and became disappointed, she left Michika to Yola.
The lady stated that to her utter dismay, she could not trace the whereabouts of Pastor Marwa again.
She lamented that he abandoned her after he chopped her money, made her quit her job, sold her only house, and became miserable, saying that she currently lives in one uncompleted building in Yolde Pate and sells vegetables to earn a living.
But when the statement of the complaint was read to the defendant upon his arraignment in court on Monday, the man of God denied the claims.
Thereafter, his counsel, M. A. Mohammed, pleaded with the court to grant bail to his client, which the court did as prayed and subsequently adjourned the matter till February 4, 2021 to enable the complainant to assemble her witnesses to prove her case.
At court session on Tuesday, Pastor Marwa was seen with another lady, who The PUNCH, gathered the pastor had engaged. https://punchng.com/lady-sues-adamawa-pastor-for-deceiving-her-with-marriage-promises/
