Nairalanders, I for no mind 10% cut. grin

Today is the 3rd anniversary of the election that brought Mohammadu Buhari to power.

To mark it , I will be giving out a brand new laptop plus fifty thousand Naira to anybody, anywhere in the world, who names ONE federal government project initiated, completed and commissioned by Buhari since he came to power.

The project must be a physical project actually initiated, not body language project.

Naming a project in the budget will not suffice. I mean something that has been implemented.

Entry will close by 12 noon tomorrow and winner announced within 2 hours thereafter.

The prize will be given to the winner on 5th April 2018.

Goodluck.

Politics / Our Struggle With The New Boko-haram Just Began by LRNZH(m): 1:17pm On Mar 22, 2018
OUR STRUGGLE WITH THE NEW BOKO-HARAM JUST BEGAN

The Al-Barnawi faction of Boko Haram (aka ISWAP) has shown the obsolete Shekau faction how to do the business of Jihad (I use the word "business" advisedly). It has succeeded in getting the following with the Dapchi girls' abduction and release:

1. Got all boarding schools in the Borno-Yobe axis closed, a victory for its campaign against Western education. With little or no Western schooling, the Northeast will become an even bigger hotbed of radicalization.

2. Set back girl-child education in the area by at least twenty years. After dropping them off, Boko Haram spent at least twenty minutes preaching to the girls to abandon Western education and "return to the path of Allah." They also dropped a subtle warning: we released you to give you a second chance to shun Western education and "return to the path of Allah," which of course they define as incompatible with Western education. I would be shocked if those girls' parents allowed them back into any Western/secular school again. Parents of girls in the region are taking notes and may become wary of sending their daughters--and sons--to secular schools.

3. They scored a huge revenue haul, with an unconfirmed $20 million ransom payment. With this money, the group has bought itself another five years worth of weapons with which to challenge our soldiers, institutions, and cohesion.

4. They scored a major public relations and propaganda victory, bonding with the people of Dapchi to the point of being hailed and given a heroic farewell upon their departure from the town.

This is precisely what distinguishes Al-Barnawi from Shekau. The former is a sophisticated Jihadist who wants to win the hearts and minds of the people of the Northeast and convince them that his group can replace the decadent, secular government of Nigeria with a just, magnanimous Islamic caliphate. The latter alienates them with his murderous madness.

The takeaways are simple:

1. With today's events, Al-Barnawi has outmaneuvered Shekau and written himself into Jihadi lore in the region.

2. Al-Barnawi is infinitely more dangerous and more threatening to Nigeria's sovereignty than Shekau, who is his own enemy and is wont to self-destruct. With today's release, similar acts of pretend goodwill in the past, and by refraining from wanton killings and embarking on community reassurance gestures, Al-Barnawi is quietly normalizing and decriminalizing Boko Haram, or at least his faction of it. His Jihad has the potential to become mainstreamed, rehabilitated, accepted at the Muslim grassroots, and eventually naturalized. That would be a nightmare scenario for Nigeria.

3. Our struggle with Boko Haram is a long way from being over.

As posted on facebook. What do you think?

Politics / It will take another 16 years to fix problem created by PDP - APC chieftain by LRNZH(m): 12:10am On Mar 19, 2018

- Abubakar Habu Muazu said the PDP has destroyed the country

- He said the it would take a while to fix the problem

- The APC chieftain expressed confidence the party will win in 2019

Abubakar Habu Muazu who is a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed confidence in the party winning more states in 2019 than it did in 2015.

In an interview with Independent, the Gombe state governorship aspirant said he was contributing his quota towards strengthening the party in the state.

He said: “As part of my effort to make the party relevant and well rooted in the state, I recently gave out funds to the party to rent offices in all the electoral wards and local government areas of the state in order to have a strong support base for the re-election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“My organisation has also done some rallies in his support, all in a bid to add colour and value to our party knowing that politics is all about engaging the people and we cannot succeed as an opposition party without engaging the people and building the party and I thank God, the people of Gombe have accepted us and they are fully ready for change to come 2019.

Any aspirant that says he is disengaging himself from the party leadership is disloyal and when you have a governor that does not believe in party supremacy, it would be difficult to pull back such governor when errors are being committed." On his earlier position that Nigerians should shun money politics, Muazu said:

“Don’t get me wrong, I still maintain that stand that money politics should be discouraged, people should be elected based on their integrity and contributions to the well being of the people. However, it is not all about me, but about building a viable party that is well accepted by the people, a party that can stand the test of time and pull the crowd to itself.

You should know that there is no way I can achieve my dreams and aspirations without having a strong platform, therefore one must be willing to sacrifice in building and uniting our great party in the state before one can start talking of his aspirations. “There are people that are also eyeing the governorship seat that is far richer than I am. One thing though is the fact that

I am doing this not because I am a desperate person who wants to be a governor at all cost or because I am rich but because I believe in the vision and mission of President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC to salvage the country.

“This is why during my meetings and consultations with party leaders, I always advise them to be wary of politicians that will try to buy their conscience with money. If they collect such monies, they are mortgaging their future and that of their children. I encourage them to assess the antecedents of the aspirants, considering their contributions to the society and the development of the party before making the decision on whom to support.

Go and ask those that know me, they will testify to the fact that I am not doing this because I want to contest an election. “I am a true politician and a grassroots mobiliser, a giver right from my childhood. It is something that I inherited and you cannot take that away from me. It is not about having lots of money, you can have a little and decide to share to touch lives and you can have plenty and decide to keep it to yourself.

For me as a politician, I value people and I care about their needs, which is why every time you come to my house you see people and I always reach out to them. That is why I do all my activities openly; I don’t wait until night then call some few people and we lock ourselves in a room in the name of political meetings. Politics is for the people and not a cult for a selected few". The APC chieftain expressed confidence that the APC will dominate the polls in 2019.

He said: “One thing you don’t know is that the country has been bastardised for 16 solid years under the rule of the PDP and so it needs another 16 years to be fixed. Yes, things are difficult because that is the process of rebuilding, it is always very easy to destroy but difficult to rebuild. By the grace of God, the APC will win reelection and even win more states that it did not win in 2015 including Gombe because Nigerians are gradually understanding that what the APC is doing to get the country back on a good track. I don’t have any iota of doubt in my mind that the APC will do even better than 2015. Meanwhile, Senator Shehu Sani (APC-Kaduna) says the APC must put its house in order to emerge victorious in the 2019 elections. He disclosed this while speaking on Saturday, March 17, at the 5th Olalekan Olomide Platform for Development held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, Iyanganku in Ibadan.

Politics / Declare Herdsmen Terrorists, SERAP Urges UN Security Council by LRNZH(m): 2:10pm On Mar 18, 2018
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has asked the UN Security Council and its members to declare herdsmen attacks across the country as acts of terrorism.

Herdsmen sacked community in Kogi State

In a statement signed by its Deputy Director, Timothy Adewale on Sunday, the group said it wrote the UN, urging them to: “Urgently hold a special session on Nigeria and to visit the country to press the authorities to end continuing killings and destruction of property by suspected herdsmen across Nigeria, particularly in the North-Central of the country.”

In the letter dated March 16, 2018 SERAP expressed, “serious concern that the government of President Muhammadu Buhari is failing to uphold its responsibility to protect the citizens”.

According to the group, if not urgently combatted, such attacks may rise to the level of threat to international peace and security.

It also highlighted that the first ‘purpose’ listed for the UN is to maintain international peace and security, therefore, they “must act now to protect Nigerians, including women and children, if the Council is not to be accused of failing the people of Nigeria.”

“The Security Council and its members should adopt a resolution to: Characterise killings by herdsmen as terrorist acts and mobilize international support for Nigeria to combat these attacks, including for the authorities to adopt and implement measures to tackle the causes and consequences of these attacks and end all forms of terrorism in the country.”

“The resolution should also call on the UN Secretary-General to carry out a joint visit to Nigeria with the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, and the African Union Peace and Security Council to investigate allegations of killings by herdsmen and to better understand the root causes of these killings and put pressure on the Nigerian authorities to end them,” SERAP said.

More Tears

Their appeal follows similar calls by some prominent Nigerians asking the Federal Government to declare the killer herdsmen as terrorists.

One of such was from Nobel Laurette, Professor Wole Soyinkia who decried the rate of killings across the country. Declare Herdsmen Terrorists, Soyinka Tells FG

While delivering his keynote speech on Thursday, at the Ripples Nigeria Dialogue; an annual forum designed to broaden the conversation on issues troubling the nation, he said it is high time the Federal Government gives a stern warning against the carnage and utter destruction they inflict on the communities.

“We’re speaking of governance, will, and responsibility, the readiness to respond with massive punitive action when the fundamental security of a people is violated.

“We’re speaking of the courage to decree such monsters terrorists and enemies of humanity with the same dispatch as the declaration of fireless violent, far less destabilising movements, albeit disruptive, supernaturalism and sometimes nasty in their attestation and activities”.

Also lending his voice to the issue, historian, Professor Banji Akintoye said during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today that the killer herdsmen appear to be more dangerous than Boko Haram terrorists and therefore, must be stopped before their activities get out of hand.

“They are all over Nigeria, there is no state in the middle belt and the south that they have not killed people in so they are more dangerous than Boko Haram,” Akintoye stated.

Since the beginning of the year, many families in states across the nation have been thrown into mourning because of the killings.

States such as Rivers, Ekiti, Plateau, Nasarawa and Benue have been the most hit, with the latter, witnessing the highest number of deaths.

IGP Flouted My Orders

While insecurity has been a major issue since the start of the year, the Federal Government has promised to do all it can to ensure that the killings come to an end, and the perpetrators are punished.

In an effort to curb the menace, President Buhari ordered the IGP to relocate to Benue state.

Although he visited Benue after the President’s directive, the state government accused him of spending only one day in the state after which he proceeded to Nasarawa state.

The development fueled another debate and series of criticisms when the President who visited the state on March 12 for the first time since the attacks on New Year’s Day, said he was just learning of the alleged noncompliance by the IGP.

Politics / Profile Of Ibrahim Dankwambo And His Nigerian Presidential Bid by LRNZH(m): 1:01pm On Mar 11, 2018
Dr. Ibrahim Dankwambo, governor of Gombe State and poster child for distinction in leadership in Nigeria, is no doubt a rare gem, a man known to be in a class of his own and we as a people must not shy away from the fact to our own detriment.

Dankwambo is known and adjudged a performer par excellence. A fantastic presidential material, he is the kind of man Nigeria needs at this trying and critical moment of its existence.

A world class accountant cum financial expert, Dankwambo is a purposeful, focused, detribalised, young, and someone Nigerians can entrust with governance and be rest assured of a quick turn around in the nation’s fortunes.

He demonstrated unusual competence while at Central Bank of Nigeria and was noticed by the then Gombe State government which appointed him its Accountant General and upon sighting his feats in Gombe State he was immediately snatched by the then led Federal Government of Obasanjo who made him Accountant General of the Federal, while in 2011 he heeded the call and invitation of his people to lead them as Executive Governor and was so elected.

His experience and level of education, with a Ph.D in Financial Accounting, Ph.D in Financial Management, one time Accountant General of the state, one time Accountant General of the Federation and one time Accountant General of Africa, have given him opportunity and the people of Gombe are tapping from it.

Gombe’s allocation is about the least in the federation account but that doesn’t stop Dakwambo from embarking on huge projects. The governor has constructed more than 500 kilometers of roads across the state capital alone while connecting many areas and states like Adamawa, Bauchi and Borno. He has embarked on an agricultural revolution in Gombe by supplying agricultural implements, farm inputs, training of farmers and assisting the farmers with loans. So many things have been achieved so far.

There is no gainsaying the obvious that Dankwambo is simply the perfect man for the job at hand of Mr. President 2019 due to his vast experience as an administrator, a technocrat and a world class financial manager. He has transformed Gombe into a mega city to the envy of other states in Nigeria with the meager resources at his disposal.

Dankwambo (Talban Gombe), born on the 4th of April, 1962 in Gombe, holds a B.Sc in Accounting, M.Sc economics; PhD ; Post Graduate Diploma in Computer science. FCA( Fellow Chartered Institute of Accountant); FCIB( Fellow Chartered Institute of Bankers); FCTI( Fellow Chartered Institute of Taxation); FNIM(Fellow Chartered institute of Management); FNIM(Fellow Chartered institute of Marketing); FES( Fellow Nigerian Economic Society).

His genres of training include Harvard University, Cambridge, Boston Massachusetts, USA on Global Financial System, Crises, Prospects and Solutions; DUKE University, DCID, Durham, NC 27708,USA on Budgeting and Financial Management in the Public Sector; Stanford University, Stanford Business School, 518, Memorial Way, USA, CA, USA-Financial Management Programme.

He worked with the Central Bank of Nigeria (1988-1999). He was Accountant General of Gombe State 1999-2005; Accountant General of the Federation 2005-2011. As the AGF, he chaired and served in very numerous committees and Board member of some Government parastatals at various times. He was the President/Chairman of the Forum of Accountants-General and Auditors – General in West Africa (FAAGWA), and had earlier, served as the Protem Secretary of the same organisation.

Dakwambo has been practicalizing all that he has studied while he has also taken advantage of his educational qualifications to distinguish himself in the various positions of leadership. The Nigeria of our dreams is possible with Dankwambo. Let us come together, join our hands in support of his presidential aspiration for a better Nigeria we all crave for.
