Africa now has the unique web address .africa, equivalent to the more familiar .com, following its official launch by the African Union.
AU commission chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma hailed its creation as the moment when Africa "got [its] own digital identity".
The AU says the .africa domain name will "bring the continent together as an internet community".
Addresses can now reflect a company's interest in the whole of Africa.
For example, a mobile phone company could create mobile.africa to show its Africa-wide presence, or a travel company could set up travel.africa.
Icann, the body that establishes these addresses known as generic Top-Level Domains, approved the move, after lobbying by the AU.
The campaign was spearheaded by a South African company ZA Central Registry (ZACR), which will now be responsible for registering .africa names.
ZACR's boss Lucky Masilela said that .africa addresses could cost as little as $18 (£15), AFP news agency quotes him as saying, and registration will start in July.
Other domain names recently created by Icann, include .fun, .phone and .hair.

Mavin’s first lady, Tiwa Savage has shared rare details of the new deal she just signed with Jay Z’s Roc Nation and how it affects her stand in the Mavin’s crew. According to new developments in the case between Apostle Suleiman and Canada-based Nigerian singer, Miss Stephanie Otobo, the alleged mistress has released photos of their private video chats after the court denied the prosecution’s wish for her to be denied bail.

The court’s decision was premised on the principle that it is a case between two Nigerians and it did not matter if one of the parties was a man of God. The presiding judge, Justice Kikelomo Bukola Ayeye, therefore ruled that there is no substantial evidence to deny Stephanie her fundamental right to freedom, and hence granted her bail on liberal terms.

Miss Otobo and her alleged accomplice were therefore granted bail on conditions that she deposit a sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum who must be gainfully employed. Attached to the application for remand was a four-count charge of terrorism, blackmail, and extortion, including threatening “an act of terrorism, demanding property with menace with intent to steal and attempt to extort money,” at the Police College in Ikeja, Lagos on February 14. Particularly, the second count holds that Wisdom and Stephanie “with intent to blackmail a man of God, did unlawfully demand the immediate payment of the sum of $1,000,000 (one million US dollars) to (them) by Apostle Suleiman,…else (they will) will call a conference and accuse him out for committing adultery …and having an illicit relationship with her (Stephanie).”

Upon regaining her freedom, Stephanie granted the short video interview which we reported in our earlier report yesterday, dispelling other reports of a purported earlier statement where she supposedly cleared the man of God under duress. As details of her video reveal, she stands with her story of being used and dumped by Apostle Suleiman, as well as his alleged used of influence in the police to intimidate her. And to buttress her Keyamo story, she has shared some telling private and intimate video chat photos at diferent times to confirm their relationship.

As this case continues to boil over, a lot of questions have been flying everywhere with some believing Apostle Suleiman’s resort to using proxies and lawyers to respond to the damning claims may not help his case in the court of public opinion. As it is, the burden of defending himself against the accusations seems to be more than that of his alleged mistress to prove her story. This is because the case if not properly handle may soon start looking like that of a man with means trying to hush the silence and intimidate a hapless girl who got trapped in a love scheme.

Whatever happens as the case develops, we are watching. We will soon know how water managed to get inside the coconut. Expect more evidence from both sides of the divide, but one more.

Toke who spoke from her London base where she had a tour for the book under contention, explained why she had to ticket her event, saying it was all part of her hustle, especially now that Maje’s lawsuit means she might yet loose a lot of what she has now. It was meant to be a joke. But then, N100 million from the account of an independent person is not ‘beans’ right?
Hear her: “Thank you so much for coming. Thank you for buying tickets, because I can’t afford somehow asking people to buy tickets, but then, pity this babe, pity me, pity me! There’s no money, we are hustling…as you guys might have heard, there’s a lot going on in the news, and the little that I have now lets just hope that I still have it after a while.”
She however assured her fans that her lawyers are on top of things, insisting there was no cause for alarm. In her words: “For all the people that reached out to me, I want to say that my lawyers are on it, and I don’t think you guys have anything to worry about…. It’s going to be a very interesting year”

Social media begging has fast become a big thing in Nigeria today, with celebrities easy target for people who believe they should give back to the society through that means.

But Nollywood actress and film maker, Sotayo Sobola, has reacted to how much her space has been inundated by these beggars, especially those in the guise of begging for school fees. According to her, everyone needs help including herself

Sotayo’s reaction throws up concerns over fans abusing their direct contact with their favourite celebrities. Of course, while a number of celebrities have taken the begging fans to be part of their social responsibility drive, a lot of these beggars may not truly be who and what they claim to be. The end result of that is that these fake beggars taking advantage of celebrity CSR may actually spoil things for the genuine ones.
Don Jazzy, Toke Makinwa, and a few others have blazed the trail in their cheerful giving and willingness to help out these begging fans meet school fees and business assistance needs, sometimes doling out as much as N250,000 to one assistance seeker.
Like Sotayo, other celebrities such as Kate Henshaw and Brymo have also turned the blind eye to such requests in the past, harping on the ‘spuriousness’ of some of the claims by the so-called ‘help seekers’.
