Tinubu's supporters are finding it increasingly difficult to defend him to Nigerians.

For those supporting every damage done under Tinubu's government simply because he's their tribesman, you need to understand that this could affect how Nigerians perceive future candidates from your region. Nigeria has never been this divided in recent years, and many people believe the tribal politics surrounding Tinubu's government has deepened the divisions.

If Obi succeeds in bringing the North and South East closer, he would be helping to bridge a long-standing divide between the two regions.

The Igbos and Hausas once lived together in peace and harmony. Many Igbo fathers were born and raised in the North, where people from both regions built businesses, friendships and families together.

It would be beautiful to see these two brothers settle their differences and rebuild that lost trust.

Nigeria needs politics that unite people across ethnic and religious lines, not one that turns citizens against one another. The damage Tinubu political division has done to our democracy and national unity can take years to repair.

Obi and Atiku may collectively get more votes than Tinubu, but that doesn't automatically mean they will win. The real question is, how do we protect those votes and prevent rigging?

NDC and ADC should work together and develop an election-monitoring app where polling unit results, especially EC8A forms, can be uploaded and compared with the results declared by INEC. Every polling unit should have evidence of what was announced and signed.

They should also equip their agents and observers with discreet cameras, including pen cameras, to record what happens at polling units. The cameras should stream or upload recordings directly to secure cloud storage in real time, so even if a camera is confiscated or destroyed, the footage remains safe. They should also have geotag metadata, including GPS coordinates and timestamps, to establish where and when each recording was made.

They must also prepare for the possibility of security personnel being withdrawn from opposition strongholds to create room for thugs to intimidate voters. There should be a system for reporting such incidents immediately, preserving evidence and alerting the appropriate authorities.

These people are not ghosts. Anyone involved in rigging can be identified and held accountable if there is credible evidence. The focus should be on exposing them and prosecuting them, not attacking their families or taking the law into our own hands.

If Obi or Atiku wins, the new administration must make electoral accountability a priority. Anyone found guilty of serious electoral offences should face severe punishment. I would advocate a minimum of 32 years in prison for the most serious cases, subject to due process, and a ban from participating in election administration for at least eight election cycles, where the law permits. If people can destroy the people's mandate and walk away freely, there is little to discourage others from doing the same.

On corruption, Datti Baba Ahmed should be considered for the chairmanship of either the EFCC or ICPC as he seem fearless, subject to the legal requirements for appointment. Whoever gets the job must be ready to investigate corruption without protecting people because of their political connections.

Obi and Atiku need to understand that winning votes is only half the battle. Protecting those votes is just as important. They need a proper plan, reliable technology, credible evidence and lawyers ready to challenge irregularities.

We cannot keep complaining about election rigging after every election and do nothing differently before the next one. The preparation must start now.

Truthfully, Nigeria’s political atmosphere may no longer be one where a gentlemanly approach, as Peter Obi has advised his supporters, is enough.

Aura should be for aura.

This country belongs to all of us, and no politician should be allowed to treat it as personal property.

It is heartbreaking to watch Nigeria drift towards dictatorship, with allegations of state-sponsored thuggery and voter intimidation threatening citizens’ right to choose their leaders freely.

What makes it worse is that Nigerians are dealing with a government many consider clueless, corrupt and insensitive to their suffering.

Something fundamental has to change. Nigeria needs a political awakening that forces those in power to understand that the people are not powerless.

Nigerians must stop allowing politicians to take them for granted. It is time to hold these people accountable and make them answer for their actions. The power belongs to the people, not the politicians.
