If you're going to talk about the characteristics (and not characters) of living things, use the acronym MR NIGER D

M - Movement (now you can mention walking, jumping, flying, sliding and all what not...)
R - Respiration

N - Nutrition
I - Jeez I can't remember!
G - Growth
E - Excretion
R - Reproduction

D - Death (yes, all living things die eventually...)

So therefore, a bird runs, flies and swims.

Either that or your original statements are wrong.
