Going by the "success" recorded so far by Sahara reporters in deceiving people with fabricated stories form ghost sources, I think I may have to open my own online news site too. All it takes is just to sit down in my bedroom and write that SOURCES told me this and that. I will come up with catchy headlines that will catch the fancy of the gullible and denigrate my enemies.
I could just write " Minister of Foriegn Affairs in 150 billion dollars scandal"
I will proceed as follows: Sources have revealed to Mango reporters that the Minister of Foriegn Affairs, Mr Balla Briggs, is enmeshed in a 150 billion dlollar scandal" sources say the monies were withdrawn on a first line charge basis from an escrow account domicilled with chase Mahhatan bank in South Carolina USA with account number CH 234742789" SOURCES say the transaction was effected after approval was given by Seun Osewa on 14th December 2012 at Nairaland hotel off premum tines street, Ikeja at 2.35 pm. |

ubandire: I'm just so tired of these bunch of liars that I don't even know what to believe again. Every time, "sources told" "sources told" who are these sources? And how reliable are they? Must Sahara always base their stories on unconfirmed stories? It's so annoying. The funny part is that most gullible people believe these tales verbatim. |
Politics › Re: Labaran Maku: Best Minister Of Information Ever? by Maduale: 9:23am On Dec 13, 2012 |
Countryman93: Under his watch, the freedom of information bill was finalized and passed thus breaking the jinx that plagued that revolutionary bill. The FOI Act now serves to institutionalize unfettered public access to government information hitherto considered privileged. He has also increased the capacity of the staff of the ministry and boosted the morale of media workers through increment of allowances with effect from July 2011. . [/b] The bolded caught my attention. He deserves commendation for pushing through that bill. I remember the politics that has delayed the formulation and passage of that bill for years. Severally it was thrown out of the National Assembly and the media was agog with condemnations over the insincerity of government to pass the bill. It was believed that the bill will usher in accountability and openness in the running of government. This is so because everybody can easily demand to have any information he deems fit about any ministry or department of govt. I remember that the yaradua administration came under heavy criticsm for playing politics with the freedom of information bill. They were accused of dreading the bill while they moved very fast to accelerate the passage of official secrets Act. The official secrets Act was the direct opposite of FOI. It seeks to hide the very information which the FOI intends to expose. If Maku came in and the FOI was passed, it's not mere coincidence. It could have been a product of courage and political will to let the FOI see the light of day. I salute him for that |

As the tour of Benue state comes to an end,I must commend the team led by the indefatigable minister,Labaran Maku for this NGGT initiative.we have been seeing projects we never knew existed eg:Power Transmission Project- the ongoing construction of the Jos-Makurdi-Ugwuaji-Ikot Ekpene 330 KV line and its associated 330/132 sub-station in Apir, Benue State is to serve as a major power evacuation link between the stranded generated power in the South-South Geo-political zone and the northern part of the country.
The above is a very important project in the preparation towards the improvement of power supply. For now let me concentrate on watching the town hall meeting. Gbam! Me too |

Maku is on fire. I just like the way the man talks. He is making real sense. He is saying that without this tour many people will be ignorant of the ongoing programmes of govt. He says democracy is all about participation and govts at all levels must be accountable to the people at each point in time. # making sense. |

Countryman93: The team led by the Hon.Minister Labaran maku visited the 43.2 kilometre Manchok-Vom road in Plateau State which has been completed and opened to commuters. Minister of State for Works, Ambassador Bashir Yuguda said during an inspection tour that the road now provides alternative route for those travelling to Kaduna as well as linked Plateau State with Kaduna State.
He added that the road which is linked to the Eastern Byepass in Kaduna through Kachia will provide alternative route for tankers bridging petroleum products from Kaduna Refinery to some states in the Northcentral Geo-political Zone.
The Minister of Information Mr. Labaran Maku expressed delight at the quality of work and urged road users to drive with care in order to guard against accident.
The road which was taken over by the Federal Government in January 2012 was executed at a cost of N3.9 billion.
When the team arrived the university of jos permanent site, the Information Minister Mr. Labaran Maku expressed disappointment at the level of work done by the contractors so far,as they are currently running six months behind schedule.
The projects which include the construction of the Faculty of Social,Faculty of Post Graduate Studies, and finance related courses, international conference centre and hostels being funded by the Central Bank through the TETFund.
He said the essence of patronising local contractors as directed by President Goodluck Jonathan was to develop local capacity in the execution of some projects,to enable them grow with their foreign contemporaries but warned contractors that their growth won't be at the expense of the university.
He said the situation was a practical example of how some Nigerians undermine the development of the country.
He is also said the TETFund is an interventional measure of the FG to tackle inadequate facilities in our tertiary institutions and that it shouldn't be this experience when it intervenes.
Hon.Maku promised to meet with all stakeholders in the process to ensure speedy execution of the projects and personally supervise the process, adding that erring contractors would have their contracts revoked.
In his own words the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Hayward Mafuyai said the project funded by the CBN is the single biggest intervention project in the university.
The Vice Chancellor also disclosed that TETFund is currently executing three projects in the university. They are the Centre for Arts, Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty
In another massive development in the Power sector reforms, the NGGT visited the 120 megawatt power sub-station in Makeri, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State. One of the many Power stations and plants being built all over the country, which has been completed.
It is expected as soon as the sub-station is energised there would be stability of electricity in the Jos South District in addition to 50 communities that would directly benefit from the projects.
The entire district previously powered through 33 kv line, will now be powered through a 132 KV line with 6 feeders.
In a related development the Panshin Sub-station has been completed and will supply electricity to the southern part of Plateau State.
In his remarks the Minister for information Labaran Maku said the Federal Government is committed to overhauling the entire power transmission infrastructure to enhance power supply which is key to economic recovery and citizens comfort.
Mr. Maku also disclosed that the Federal Ministry of Information recently conducted investigation across the country and discovered from the citizens that there is greater stability in power supply, adding that once the gas fired plants being built by the FG and the private sector are connected to gas supply,in addition to the Super grid under construction, the country would witness a record stability in power supply. The above projects were executed by president Goodluck Jonathan. Let's not confuse them with that of Jang. |

This issue has really caused so much row between the executive and the legislature. It is important that the senior advocate clarifies it conclusively. Labaran Maku was called a careless talker by the senate president because of this issue. But it appears Maku was damn right after all. A resolution is advisory and not binding in most cases. The only binding resolutions are those emanating from an administrative panel of inquiry set up pursuant to 68 and 69. Clearly, the resolutions on Bakassi, Arunma Otteh, etc are not in the radar of sections 68 and 69. So Maku is right |
