PoliticsA Strange Mentality Concerning The Presidency In Nigeria by MajeMedia(op): 6:50pm On Dec 11, 2013
People are always likely to create the fantasy presidential and vice presidential candidates this time of the year.
What I find strange is they always follow the same pattern

if the they have a candidate from the north, and one from the south, the northerner is always president, regardless of qualification, and the southerner vice. If it's a double southern ticket, the SW candidate is always made president over the SS or eastern candidate, and I've never seen someone draft a fantasy SE SS candidature. This is all regardless of seniority, experience and viability.

Are we subconsciously convinced that 'born to rule' is correct? I've seen highly talented people like Fashola, Donald Duke and now Amaechi, poised as vice presidential candidates, a seat that gives no room for them to flex their talents, while Kwankwaso, Buhari, Ribadu, and Sule Lamido, all of whom are good but no where near the achievers of the previously listened, are poised as the presidential candidates. Though many feel the seat should return to the north and thus why the skew the listing, this is typical with ever election we face.

FOOL FINDER: Joke of the century, and yet the naira keeps falling behind the dollar.
the naira has been at a stable 160 to the dollar for 2 years straight. We have never had this type of currency stability since colonialism.

PoliticsRe: Is Ebonyi State More Viable Than Anambra And Abia?---IGR by MajeMedia: 6:39am On Dec 09, 2013
This isn't a mark of economic viability, it's a mark of taxation and the type of economic activity that's happening. Something like commercial farming (ebonyi) is easier to tax than informal trading (onitcha)
PoliticsRe: Lagos Tops IGR Report by MajeMedia: 2:19am On Dec 09, 2013
Though many would like to use these are reports of state's economic success, in reality, they're only reflections of how intensely the people in the states are taxed.

We have fooled ourselves into believing that IGR = Economic production, to the point that we're making up fact IGR reports. If a state pursuits a low tax policy that speeds up economic activity and economic growth, we assume this mean the state isn't doing well because the government is getting less tax money to report.
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Govt Should Support Surrogate Mothers.a Woman Right To Choose--Musiwa by MajeMedia: 4:19am On Dec 08, 2013
I completely agree. I don't know why they're called 'baby factories'. Surrogate motherhood is a normal human practice that exists in ever sane society. It's only in Nigeria that we'll name it 'baby factory' and start embarrassing ourselves on international media outlets making everyone think we're cultivating and harvesting babies. mchew. If a woman is barren and pays another woman to have a kid for her to adopt what exactly is the harm?

PoliticsRe: So Why Did Mandela Refuse A Second Term? by MajeMedia: 11:11pm On Dec 07, 2013
ROSSIKE: People make a big issue of Mandela's refusal to seek re-election as something for other African leaders to emulate.

I've never understood this idea that somehow because Mandela never sought re-election it somehow makes him a better person than a leader who DOES seek re-election. Is seeking re-election a crime? Why must it mean the seeker is doing so for selfish reasons? If a man feels he needs an extra term to carry out his program for his country, how is he worse than the man who refuses to lead at all? I still have no clue why Mandela refused to seek a second term as was his right. Can anyone explain pls? I suspect he left so he didn't have to take the can (and the tarnishing of his good name) for the relatively poor results accruing from his over compromising with the apartheid regime on the economic status quo.

Any other ideas?
It sets the pace for a healthy democracy that's based on service instead of power. When someone is there for power they will maximize their time. By stepping down he was showing that the office of the presidency was bigger than him as a person and those that follow, who will inevitably consider him a hero, should maintain the same attitude towards the office. George Washington of the US did the same.

Where as in Nigeria we are used to military rulers that would only leave by force. Thus our presidents behave like military rulers that won't leave unless it's by force. The person isn't the office in SA and the USA whereas in Nigeria, the person is the office because those before us led a horrible example. Someone that does what Mandela did is thinking about the future.

Music/Radio(video) Fela's Opinion On Afrobeats Today? by MajeMedia(op): 10:02pm On Dec 06, 2013
As I watch the development of Afrobeats today, I look back at this video and wonder what Fela would say. Are our artists still staying true to the format? A good argument can be made for both sides
