Kabianga High School students, who did not finish their holiday assignments, worked on them outside the school's gate on Monday. Nearly 100 of the 1,530 learners were pictured seated on grass, with their books on their laps, a punishment which principal Joash Aloo was confident would instill discipline. "We had an Annual General Meeting on August 2 in which parents asked us to find a way to make the students study during holidays," Mr Aloo explained by phone. "We agreed to give them assignments that parents will supervise." HOLIDAY HOMEWORK The principal said the tasks are assigned three hours daily and take about three weeks. He noted: "Kabianga was once an academic giant so all stakeholders are determined to take it up the chart. We had an agreement on vocational studies; that is why parents and the boys are not complaining about this punishment." The students were allowed into school for the third term after completing the assignments.
