Our attention has been drawn to the libelous story posted on your website on 2nd June, 2013, on the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and which has now been circulated by other online websites and blogging groups.
The post was full of fabrication and inaccuracies. Ordinarily this would have been best ignored. We are however constrained to write to you on account of the severe implications of the allegations for the integrity of the CBN, as an institution.
It is also important to reaffirm our long-standing commitment to due process and international best practice in the discharge of every aspect of our statutory mandate.
We wish to state that CBN is an equal opportunity employer, which prides itself with having female members of staff that possess the highest qualifications, competencies and skills. It is rather reprehensible for anyone to cast such aspersions on the qualifications and integrity of our female staff.
In the publication, you made the following false allegations:
1. That Dr. Maryam Yaro is a staff of the CBN at the level of Assistant Director and that she was recruited without due process, as she was not qualified for the role.
2. That the CBN Governor introduced Dr. Yaro to the CBN and exerted pressure on the Human Resources Department to recruit her. We wish to state the fact as follows:
1. Dr. Maryam Yaro is not, and has never been an employee of the Central Bank of Nigeria. She was one of four consultants (three of whom were male), hired by the Nigeria Incentive-based Risk-sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL) Plc; on a one year contract, renewable on the basis of satisfactory performance. NIRSAL Plc is a special purpose vehicle (SPV) set up by the Federal Government of Nigeria, through a partnership between the CBN and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD).
1. In the course of establishing NIRSAL, the Hon. Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, through a formal letter, recommended Dr. Yaro to participate in the project as a Specialist on Rural Finance Access.
2. Dr. Yaro was hired after a rigorous selection process conducted by the the NIRSAL Project Implementation Office. This clearly contradicts the claim that Dr. Yaro was brought in by the CBN Governor.
3. Contrary to allegation that the Governor expedited recruitment of Dr. Yaro, the PIO’s recommendation to hire her as a Consultant, was written on March 30, 2012 but only received final approval on June 20, 2012.
4. It is pertinent to add that Dr. Yaro’s academic qualifications and experience eminently qualify her for the job. She is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), who speaks three Nigerian languages, and has extensive experience working with farmers across the country on different agricultural programmes. She has also been a consultant to the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO); and was one of the experts working in the National Programme on Food Security before she was engaged by NIRSAL.
5. Please find attached, the relevant documents in support of the facts stated above and we hope you will give this the same publicity you gave your initial story. We have noted that the other allegations in the post border on the person of the CBN Governor and are consistent with previous attacks. In line with the Governor’s usual practice of not responding to these libelous comments on his person, we have decided not to respond.
The CBN shall remain resolute in the pursuit of its statutory mandates regardless of any attempt to distract the institutionor its officers.

A 23-year-old woman has given birth to quintuplets in the Czech Republic, officials say, a first for the country.
Alexandra Kinova had four boys and a girl by caesarean section on Sunday, they say.

The births took place "without any complications", according to doctors at Prague's Institute for the Care of Mother and Child.
The mother and babies were placed in an intensive care unit but are believed to be in a good condition.

The Czech Republic's first quintuplets, who were conceived naturally without IVF, have a 95% chance of growing up healthy, the Associated Press quoted Zbynek Stranak, chief doctor at the neonatal section of the institute, as saying.
The boys' names are reportedly Deniel, Michael, Alex and Martin, while the girl is called Terezka.
Their mother, who is from the town of Milovice, about 20km (12 miles) north-east of the capital, Prague, already had one son.
She originally believed she was pregnant with twins, but in March doctors upped it to four - and then five in April.
The father of the quintuplets was present at the delivery despite his train being delayed, according to the newspaper Ceske Noviny.
"I was crying all the way since I feared I would not manage it," he said.

A witness yesterday told an Ikeja High Court in Lagos how the N1.2 billion subsidy fraud allegedly committed by the Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of A.B.S. Investment Company Limited, Bamidele Aro, and his company was detected.

The defendants, Aro and Abiodun Bankole, as well as their company,A.B.S. Investment Company Limited, were arraigned by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on October 5 last year before Justice Lateefat Okunnu on an 18-count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence and forgery. Lawal Ahmed, a detective with the EFCC, told the court that the defendants forged documents to claim N1.2 billion for oil subsidy without discharging 15,000 metric tonnesas claimed.
The witness, who was led in evidence by EFCC counsel, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), said investigation showed that haulage report that claimed 15,000 metric tonnes of petrol emanated from Societal General Company in Paris was false.

He told the court that the petroleum product actually emanated from Noble Clean Fuel Limited as against Societal General Company in the document presented to the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, PPPRA, to claim subsidy fund.
The witness said investigators detected that the discharge date the petroleum product was said to have been discharged was also forged. Ahmed also said the ship-to-ship transfer said to have been administered by Quality Marine Services was altered, adding that there was no record of such transaction upon investigation.
He said: “The documents for subsidy claim submitted to PPPRA and used in collecting subsidy claims by the defendants were forged.”

The witness added that the product was not imported because there was no ship-to-ship transfer at all while the forged documents were also used to claim subsidy fund. Okunnu adjourned the matter to June 6 for further cross examination.

Angelina Jolie’s beloved aunt Debbie died after a battle with breast cancer on Sunday morning (26.05.13) in California. Angelina Jolie’s aunt has lost herbattle with breast cancer.

The ‘Salt’ actress – who recently revealed she underwent a double mastectomy after she was identified as carrying the BRCA1 cancer gene, which gave her an 87 per cent chance of developing breast cancer and a 50 per cent risk of ovarian cancer – and her family are in mourning after her aunt Debbie Martin, 61, passed away at Palomar Hospital in Escondido, California on Sunday morning (26.05.13).

The Oscar-winner’s uncle Ron Martin confirmed the sad news and praised the 37-year-old star and her brother James Haven for their support.
He told E! News: “Angelina has been in touch throughout the week and her brother Jamie has been with us, giving his support day by day. They both loved Debbie very much and although Angie is not able to come right now she has sent her love and support, which was very nice.
“We have seen Angelina a number of times since Debbie was diagnosed with breast cancer and Debbie and I were both very proud of her recent decision to have the double mastectomy and to do everything she can to keep her family from having to go through what we’ve been through.

“Angelina’s father Jon Voight has also been tremendously supportive – he came down to see Debbie last Sunday and spent the whole day, talking with her and sharing his love and I know Debbie really enjoyed seeing him and talking with him.”

Debbie is survived by her husband Ron and their two sons Chris and Cory Martin.

The leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, Asari Dokubo,
has described Rivers State Governor and reelected chairman of Nigeria
Governors Forum, Rotimi Amaechi as a "traitor.".

In a phone-in radio
programme in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Asari said Amaechi's political ambition did not tally with the ambition of the people of the state.
Asari said:
"Amaechi and his commissioners can go back to slavery and continue to serve the northerners, who claim to be born to rule. We will never go back to slavery. We know the quality of those who are commissioners in Rivers State.

"Amaechi is a traitor and he will be treated like a traitor. Amaechi is not more Ikwerre than me. It is about liberty to rule. Amaechi wants to take us back to slavery. It will not be possible. The era of

"Amaechi and his ambition must be tied to the ambition of his people.

In Kano, Amaechi said he would run as vice-president, if invited. I

clearly and convincingly.
"President Goodluck Jonathan will win in 2015. If they do not allow
him to win, they will not be able to handle the consequences. An end
must come to the suppression, oppression, repression and marginalisation of the people of the Niger Delta.

"The South-South and South-East people have been brushed aside for too long. People of the North said they would make Nigeria ungovernable for Jonathan, if he won in 2011,which they are doing."

It has been revealed that the mother of 22-year-old Michael Adebowale, one of the two Islamic terrorists who hacked a British soldier to death in broad day light, actually tried desperately to turn him away from extremism but “could not get through”.

“ He is from a strong Christian family but he is turning to Islam and turning against the family . He is preaching in the streets. He needs spiritual guidance before he radicalizes himself.

The British soldier hacked down yesterday in broad day light by two Islamist fanatics has been identified as 25 year old Lee Rigby.

According to the UK Daily Mail, Rigby had recently fought in Afghanistan and was walking towards the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich, south-east London, yesterday afternoon, when he was run down by a car on the pavement and hacked to death by the two men.

Lee Rigby was married and had a 2 year old son.

18yrs Old Girl Invents Device That Can Charge Phone Battery In Just 20 Seconds

A California teen has attracted the attention of tech giants Google for her potentially revolutionary invention which charges a phone in 20 seconds flat.

The super-fast charging device has been dubbed a super capacitor by 18-year-old Esha Khare, of Saratoga - as she took home $50,000 from the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, which took placein Phoenix this week.
The device will make waiting hours for a phone to charge a thing of the past and the gizmo packs more energy into a smaller space than traditional phone batteries and holds the charge for longer. Eesha Khare, 18, of Saratoga, Calif.,received the Intel Foundation Young Scientist Award of $50,000 for the invention of a tiny energy-storage device With great power: The supercapacitor is flexible and tiny,and is able to handle 10,000 recharge cycles, more than normal batteries by a factor of 10.

So far, Khare has only used her supercapacitor to power a light-emitting diode or LED - but she sees a bright future that one day will see her invention powering cellphones, cars and any gadget that requires a rechargeable battery.

Heading to Harvard, Khare told CBS San Francisco that this is only the start and that she will 'be setting the world on fire' from here. 'My cellphone battery always dies,'she told NBC News when asked what inspired her to work on the energy-storage technology.

Specializing in nanochemistry allowed Khare to reduve the size of her invention.'Really working at the nanoscaleto make significant advances in many different fields.' Khare claimed the top three prizes at this year?s Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix Aspirations: Google have been in contact with Miss Khare to explore how she plans to change the makeup of cell phone battery life 'It is also flexible, so it can be used in rollup displays and clothing and fabric,' Khare added.

David Beckham played his last game as a footballer tonight, with the Englishman captaining PSG in their last home game of the season.
Beckham had looked emotional before the game, waving to the crowds and blowing kisses to his fans during the warm up for his final match.

And eventually bursted into tears as he was substituted off in the second half, with everyone in the stadium according him a standing ovation.
A visibly upset Beckham was surrounded by the PSG players who hugged him one by one as he walked off.
As his name was read out over the stadium’s speaker system, PSG fans gave out a huge cheer and continued to chant ‘Stay David, Stay’ throughout the match.

His wife Victoria and their four children Romeo, Brooklyn, Cruz and Harper all flew in from London to witness David put the finishing touches on a glittering 20-year career.
