Peru drug law enforcement yesterday seized 1,417 kilos of cocaine with logos that bear a photo of Barcelona star Lionel Messi as well as his name, found wrapped in containers of squid filets and destined for Belgium.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Hameed Ali, on Tuesday announced a code number for efficient and effective vehicle duty clearance verification.

Ali disclosed this at a media stakeholders meeting in Abuja.

He said the essence of the meeting was to have a roundtable with stakeholders to come up with solution to avoid causing hardship to Nigerians with regards to duty payment on old vehicles and verification.

Following cacophony of angry voices that trailed the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) policy on duty payments on old vehicles, the organisation was forced to suspend its implementation “in order to resolve issues with the Senate Committee on Customs”.

The Comptroller-General of Customs Hameed Ali had on March 2, 2017, issued a 30-day ultimatum to the owners of vehicles on which Customs duty have not been paid, to do so or face prosecution.

Ali had given private owners and motor dealers between Monday March 13 and Wednesday April 12,2017 to visit the nearest Customs Zonal Office to pay the appropriate Customs duty on their vehicles.
