The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently received twelve suspected oil thieves, a vessel MV OMISAN 1 with registered number IMO 7216244, an unnamed barge and two wooden boats from the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) PATHFINDER Naval Base, Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, Rivers State for further investigation and prosecution.

The Commander of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Delta, Commodore Ibrahim Dewu, on Thursday said more than 40 illegal refineries and over one million metric tonnes of products suspected to be crude oil have been destroyed.

Dewu disclosed this to newsmen at the Warri Naval Base shortly after the operation.

He said the illegal refineries and illegally refined products were discovered and destroyed in Jones Creek, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta.

Without controversy, the recent rebuff by a British court of attempt by some communities in the Niger Delta to sue oil giant, Shell, for allegedly polluting their fishing waters and farmlands has again brought to the front burner the high level devastation in the region caused by oil spill.

The high court has ruled that tens of thousands of Nigerians affected by oil pollution cannot proceed with a legal challenge in the United Kingdom against Shell and its Nigerian subsidiary. It decided that the case against the Netherlands-based company should be heard in Nigeria instead.

A six-man armed robbery gang led by a clearing gent arrested over the murder of a Nigeria Customs

Service (NCS) officer in front of the Tin Can Island Port, Lagos said they only wanted to rob the man of his belongings and not to kill him.

The victim, an Assistant Superintendent of Customs, Aliyu Adamu, was shot dead at the Tin-Can Island Port, Second Gate, on Thursday December 22, 2016.

The Director of Lagos State Fire Service, Rasak Fadipe, on Tuesday said they recovered two bodies from a petrol tanker and a deep well on Monday in the state.

He said on Tuesday that an unidentified man, who attempted to steal petrol inside a stationary tanker, was suffocated by the fumes and died.

He said, “The tanker was parked opposite Morogbo Police Station, along the Badagry Expressway. The dead man was removed at about 5pm on Monday and was handed over to Morogbo police men.”

I did not for the life of me think I would ever have cause to ride on an okada again. I resolved almost ten years ago to have absolutely nothing to do again with the contraption. I was on my way to the Lagos airport from Apapa to catch a 5pm flight to Abuja that fateful Thursday afternoon sometimes in November 2007. I had a meeting at 8pm in Abuja. We left Apapa at about 3pm hoping to be at the airport in an hour, leaving enough time for check-in formalities and the rest.

The lifeless body of a six- to seven-year-old boy believed to be a migrant trying to get to Europe has washed up on a southern Spanish beach, authorities said Sunday.

In a grim reminder of the discovery of Aylan Kurdi, the three-year-old Syrian boy found drowned on a Turkish beach in 2015, the body was found Friday in the municipality of Barbate on Spain’s southern tip.

Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers has said he officially wrote to President Muhammadu Buhari asking him to hand over two armoured helicopters seized by Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) to Nigeria Air Force (NAF).
The governor’s claim contradicts the claim of NCS that the owner of the aircraft was not known.

Wike, in a statement issued by his spokesman, Simeon Nwakaudu, in Port Harcourt on Saturday, said he wrote the President because of high custom duties and refusal of the Federal Government to grant waiver on the helicopters.
