Air Peace has aborted an Abuja-bound flight after the B737 aircraft with flight number 4P7198 lost one of its tyres as it prepared for take-off at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.

The aircraft was departing for Abuja at 10:40am when the incident happened.

An explosion has occurred on a section of the Right of Way housing two gas transmission pipelines, one of which belongs to the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) company, about three kilometres from Rumuji in Rivers State.

171 Nigerian returnees from Libya arrived the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Tuesday and recounted their ordeal in the North African nation.

The returnees were received by Special Adviser on Diaspora and Foreign Affairs to the President, Mrs. Abike Dabiri – Erewa, who cautioned Nigerians to desist from dangerous search for greener pasture in Libya.

She said Tuesday’s returnees bring to over 1,000 the number of people who have returned home from Libya in the last two years.

Vessel laden with contaminated fuel in Lagos

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) on Monday said it seized a vessel, MT JAZI, loaded with 1. 5 million litres of contaminated petroleum product while discharging at Nakem Jetty, Kirikiri, Lagos.

The Director of DPR, Mordecai Ladan, who disclosed this to newsmen in Lagos, said the vessel was intercepted on February 11 while discharging at Nakam jetty.

The federal government has concluded arrangements to bring back home a fresh set of 180 Nigerians migrants trapped in Libya and 50 deportees from the European Union this week.

While the Libya returnees will arrive the country on Tuesday, the deportees from the EU will be received on Thursday.

A statement by the media assistant to Abike Dabiri-Erewa, senior special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Balogun Abdur-Rahman, said the returnees will arrive through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport cargo terminal.

Nigeria is to license a new oil and gas free zone in Delta state, the Managing Director, Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority (OGFZA), Umana Umana, said on Friday.

Umana, who disclosed this at the end of an inspection visit to the proposed free zone to be located in Okitigbo in Warri North of Delta State, said he was impressed with the level of physical development of the proposed free trade hub.

The OGFZA boss said he was equally excited at the enthusiasm and demonstration of readiness by the promoters of the new free zone, Awaritse Nigeria Limited, to acquire an oil and gas free zone status for the state.

An Abuja-based businessman, Nkem Ahidjo, claimed on Friday that N35m out of the N8.5bn allegedly diverted by retired Maj. Gen. Emmanuel Atewe was paid to the Living Faith Church, popularly known as Winners’ Chapel.

Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has described corruption as one of the reasons Nigerians were facing hardship.
